He usually does that. Antony and Mazraoui had to start because there werent other options but otherwise he slowly intregrates them into the starting line up. I find it strange too.

Worst moment was hen he kept Casemiro on the bench for McT when Casemiro joined the club and he was still the Real Madrid version of Casemiro. Casemiro on the bench for McT!

The irony is that McTominay looked great for that run of games.

Another irony is that they are clearly being left out because they are unfamiliar with the tactics even though we clearly have no tactics.

Ridiculous line up. Rashford should be benched. Garnacho should start. De Ligt is bang off form. The midfield again looks lightweight. The bench is weak. And Onana continues to be another disaster waiting to happen.

Casemiro was visibly not fit in his first three games.

I don’t understand why Garnacho is suddenly dropped this season

Scored in the FA cup final…then the Community shield and hasn’t played since

He's starting the season on the bench, because he is the winger who needs a rest the most from our options. It really is that simple, but people will whine about everything.

The numbers don’t back that up? Similar numbers and he played more on the left last season. We’ve been terrible down the right side for a while now imo, he looks way more dangerous on the left for me.

Last season he was far better on the right. I can only recall him having one good game when he started on the left (Chelsea away). If you look at his GA, it was 6 in 23 games on the left and 5 in 12 on the right, and his contributions in the FA Cup were also from the right.

I think he will probably end up better on the left but it’s been a more difficult position in our team recently, especially for a young player, given the lack of a left back to support. He seemed to form a good combination with Dalot on the right last year.

McT looked great for McT but he still wasnt Casemiro. Casemiro was really good that first half of a season. In my opinion the better player should play.

Same with de Ligt, i think he is a much better player than Harry Maguire but Maguire was only taken out of the starting line up after he made a mistake that allowed Brighton to score. Lesser players can play well but the better player will be the better option in (almost) all situations.

Eek, that line up is not filling me with a lot of confidence. Hopefully we just out gun them then. Does show how weak our midfield options are.

    De Ligt off form?

    The mind boggles.

Ugarte can play international football but god forbid he won’t be able to play against the mighty Southampton

How bad is TNT, jesus christ. Scrapping the barrel with Joe Cole and Lanky, with this blonde who has as much personality as water.

Right lads let’s settle in for another Ten Hag masterclass*

*another 90 mins of watching with incredulity as we get passed to death by another fecking team which we should be putting to the sword

    This needs to stop.
It is very common for a new signing to take a few weeks before getting a start. And it is also not uncommon for South American players returning from having played an international week to not start, what with the long flights.
If Ugarte started and got injured, people would be clamoring how reckless Ten Hag is.
It is just one lineup against a bottom team. This is not the CL final.

I kind of get the Eriksen one, he can at least be a decent player for half an hour and we have replacements now.

It looks like a line up primed to concede from a set piece though. Maguire should be starting

ETHs hope to eventually play Rashford into form is borderline crazy. As is fielding such a weak midfield

I think it’s funny that a 19 year old youth player is the only guaranteed started in midfield for us. For such a massive club that’s awful.

Southampton are brilliant at holding the ball.

We want to play a pressing aggressive system.

Solution: start Eriksen, Mainoo and Bruno in a midfield.

    This will be very interesting.

I'm off to put few quid on the Saints.. that starting 11 . Bloody hell unless we keep possession that goal is going to get pepperd . I had Manioo Ugarte and Casimero all starting ..

Whenever there's a full on meltdown in the thread half an hour before kickoff, it normally bodes well.

Did you think that with Rooney and Ronaldo? Was them commanding a place in our team at 18 awful for such a massive club? Daft comment.

Antony hasn't played well in such a long time. Wheatley is a decent prospect but still young and needs time. My point was more that I can only really see Garnacho as an option that can change the game from an attacking perspective

neither has Rashford yet he keeps getting given chance after chance.

First time in 24 years I am not looking forward to a Manchester United match.

It’s crazy to see the difference between Eriksens position for us and the Danish national team. Denmark plays with 5 atb and 2 defensive midfielders behind Eriksen.

I don’t understand why we think he is a CM. We are going for a high scoring game…

Go on… I’ve got Sky Sports but can’t afford TNT as well. What are they saying?
Potentially that ETH could go today if this goes wrong. We are all thinking the same though

I think the words they used was if they get beat today the ownership would have to take a serious look.

I feel he’s dropped Gernacho as he’s young and wants to keep him in line. Even if Rashford plays a blinder today he’s done nothing to earn his place. As for Erickson there’s no words.

You say this like easing new signings into a team isn't an extremely common thing for managers to do. Let alone when they've just flown back later than everyone else from international break.

The fact that we're playing Southampton just makes taking that choice all the more reasonable. We shouldn't need Ugarte to win this match and if we don't win it will be because we've done such a shit job done with the rest of the team.
