Horrible line up. After all the money spent, that’s the best we can do? Depressing stuff, this game is going to be more torture.

EtH has lost the plot - prove me wrong and win

(watch us draw and keep this guy)

What about Antony and Wheatley? If Rashford starts week in, week out, then Antony deserves another chance and Wheatley is a promising academy player so deserves a chance.
Antony hasn't played well in such a long time. Wheatley is a decent prospect but still young and needs time. My point was more that I can only really see Garnacho as an option that can change the game from an attacking perspective

Ah yes, the way to tighten up our midfield is to replace our slow defensive midfielder with an even slower, less defensive midfield.

It might pay off if Southampton are toothless, but I doubt it, even the worst teams can march through us.

I expected Rashford to be dropped, but I guess he didn't go on international duty which decided it between him and Garnacho.

Also, would've preferred Collyer or Ugarte to Eriksen, but I guess we'll see Mainoo playing deeper today instead, with the Dane being brought in to the XI for his passing abilities.

If Eriksen does well today, could he become a viable option at #8 with Ugarte/Collyer behind him, so that Mainoo can get a rest if needed? That would be a good in-house solution, so let's hope so.

Surprised to see Eriksen start but it's a change, not sure if it will work, also happy to see Amad start, we need him there on the RW.

I didn't see any of the Southampton matches, but based on stats, they totally dominated Newcastle in possession and shots, they also dominated Forrest and Brentford in possession, I think they play attacking football and even though they lost all of their opening 3 games, they might again go for it today against us and I am worried they will make things extremely hard if our players don't give it 110% today.

None of our wingers excite me.

Rashie's off, Garna's raw and Amad is over-rated. Antony may as well not exist.

Up front is worse. Scary Mourane Kravitz and Razzmatazz Hojlund? Terrible.

Casemiro will play as doubtlessly Galatasaray will baulk. Mainoo's decline continue.

Maguire will be our best defender. Sigh.

    At least goalkeeper is sort......

One nil us, at best. We concede first: We lose.

    Sack the board.
I thought we didn’t allow trolling.

Yikes. Not liking that midfield. I can only think that Ten Hag is happy to allow Southampton to dominate the ball, and we’re going to pick them off.

Do we think he will get sacked if we lose?

We all know he should, but will he or will they wait til we are out of everything like usual

Garnacho aside and an untested Ugarte, our bench looks unimpressive and unimpactful

Wtf is that lineup? No #6? Why is Eriksen starting? What is ETH trying to prove here? The guy has lost the plot.

We should create some chances today, let's hope our forwards are up to the task of putting them away. 2-1 United.

Itl be Bruno deeper with Eriksen in the 10. At least he's changing it up after the Casemiro debacle.

Mainoo and Eriksen… 60 minutes and they’re spent. We will have to have almost total control to not reduce that 60 to 45 or less.

Southampton must be chomping at the bit to attempt to run that pairing down.

Looks like it’ll be spectacular, one way or the other…

Ten Hag going into these games with his shield, I’ll give him that.

I guess we don’t know the fitness levels and how players are performing in training, but ETH just strikes me as a stubborn individual when it comes to his selection choices.

Or there must be something in Rashfords contract that dictates he has to play X amount of games surely?

Eriksen, Mainoo, De Ligt, Martinez, not much pace and that is a major concern. We are playing without a proper no 6.

Eriksen is a very good player. I think people forget this. Looking forward to seeing how he gets on.

He is, but in Bruno's position. Playing deeper he doesnt do enough without the ball and has the worst defensive instincts of any midfielder we've used there. As we see for Denmark when he plays high up the pitch he can make things happen for them. But Bruno will be doing that

He was probably our best winger last game, in fairness.

I like the signings we've made and we can all see the team we are supposed to be building on paper, so why don't we ever play it?

Glad to see no casemiro but confused as to why Erikson. I get he won't start Ugarte, but I think the other young lad could have started.

So weird that Rashford starts again, but glad Amad is back. He actually offers a lot in terms of the press, keeping the ball ticking and teamwork.

Let's see what happen, it's Southampton, we should be able to win comfortably and if we don't, Hag is just full of rubbish. No excuses today.

He lost the plot a long long time ago. The guy doesn't have a clue about English football after 100+ games.

What were you expecting? None of our signings are anything to be excited about

I don’t understand why Garnacho is suddenly dropped this season

Scored in the FA cup final…then the Community shield and hasn’t played since
Missed pre season and was away on international duty . Also My Marcus never gets dropped

Looking at that line-up... no wonder I'm not even planning to watch the game.

I can't believe that this is what has happened to Manchester United, just look at those players.

All that money spent, all the years trying to do our best to get back to the elite...

There were reports of ETH wanting more possession during the international break. Might explain the Eriksen start. The question should be asked though, if we wanted someone to give us more control in possession, why didn't we sign this type of player when the window was open?
We're crap in midfield and the entire world knows it, yet we brought in only one midfielder, on the last day of the window. It's stupidity on another level.

Atleast Casemiro wont be providing pre assists to the opponent from the start of the game like he did against Liverpool.

For all the doom and gloom about the midfield with Mainoo and Eriksen or not a destroyer midfielder starting, lets see how it goes. If we keep the ball in the team, Eriksen and Mainoo will likely be fine. With Zirkzee, Mainoo, Eriksen, de Ligt, Martinez and Onana behind them there is quite a bit of technical ability on the ball in the central part of the pitch.

Eriksen gives us composure in midfield. I think you guys will be surprised at how well he will do. At least for the first 60 mins :)

With that midfield, it will be a ping pong game. I hope we're attempting to go all out attack here but we will concede chances with no recognised DM. Or at least put our defence under severe pressure.

I'll be travelling so. Won't be able to watch. Hopefully I'll be sickened about that at full time.

We did, Ugarte has high ball retention stats. We still need another quality passing midfielder to
replace Eriksen: I expect that will be done in the next windows.

That lineup  I said before that he won't play Ugarte. I reckon he'll try to avoid playing him at all because it wasn't his signing, hence all the talk about him not being ready.

Rashford must always play of course. Absolute shambles of a manager. A full summer of signings and a lineup that looks worse than last season.

In defence of Rashford, he’s put quite a few chances on the plate for Garnacho, Mount and Zirkzee in the three league games but they’ve missed sitters. And his workrate has been better than Garnacho’s in the opening games.

Do I want more given his age and salary? Yes. But he’s been better than the other option.
