Was thinking about our dearth of striking options and wingbacks for tomorrow and wouldn't it make sense for us to go 3-4-3 rather than 3-5-2? Similar principles but with a packed midfield (to cover our blatant deficiencies there) and genuine attacking width.

    Something like:

    Young Rooney Januzaj
    Mata
    Cleverley Herrera
    Fletcher
    Blackett Smalling Jones
    De Gea
Obviously depending on the fitness of some players (which I'm sure we'll find out about today) and maybe with someone more match fit than Januzaj.

Firstly, he didn't impress on loan. Only for the first month or two. By the end he'd been useless for a good five months and had been dropped because of a bad attitude in training and on the pitch.

Secondly, that's all irrelevant because we're not going to start a youngster who's barely ever played for us and hasn't appeared once in pre-season in our first game of the season. Hence the laughter.

The lad bagged 12 goals, got 3 in 6 in Europe. For a 19 year old he did well, under a manager like LVG he could flourish.

Also, read my comment. At no point did i say he WILL be starting or that he should. Said i'd like to see it, hence the comment.

Would probably be fun to watch, with effectively 4 forwards and only 3 defenders and not much midfield. But i think LvG will be a little more restrained about it than that, with the likes of Rooney, RvP and Mata we don't even need to go balls-to-the-wall attacking, we should score a few, so think he'll be more conscious of not letting many in imo.

Don't know how much we could even read into that as I'm pretty sure he was deployed as a striker in most of those games, and he won't even get a sliver of a look-in there for us.

Powell won't start and I would hate to see it given the fact he hasn't featured for us yet and it's been a long time since he's actually played central midfield. Powell done well in his first three months on loan albeit predominantly as a forward but he got injured and lost his place in the team.

He's still got a lot of potential and I actually feel he's a better midfielder than a striker but it would be silly to involve him in the match tomorrow.

That line-up would get demolished. Carved up down the wings.

Wouldn't even work on FM :p

Eh, that's only a layout of starting positions and how things would look in attack, these things are never particularly rigid. Obviously players shift around and defending could see Young dropping further back and Cleverley/Fletcher pushing out a bit wider.

Like I said, just a potential solution to our injury problems.

That's my brother's favorite formation on FIFA.

Really hoping Welbeck is fit. Otherwise I want to see Januzaj start ahead of Hernandez. Our play was too limited without a player who is capable of one touch football and fluidity in the final third.

Agree completely, although you'd hope Rooney could provide that... Not the case vs Valencia, clearly.

Yeah he'd deffo have to learn a cm role. Good technique for a young lad though, would like to see him given a go there in cup games or something. if he stays at the club this year.

Yeah, Rooney looked really off the pace last game. Hopefully it's out of the way now, as he looked very sharp on tour. I'm sure he'll grab a few goals or assists tomorrow though, so no worries.

Going to watch this with the brother and the grandad. Ecstatic! First time I've been since we beat QPR a few seasons back when scholes scored that 25 yarder.

I'm thinking 3-0. Rooney with 2 and mata with 1.

    ----------------------DDG--------------------------
    Young----Smalling--Jones----Evans--

    -----------------Fletcher-------------------------

    -----------Herrera-Cleverley-Mata---------------

    ----------------Kagawa--------------------
    ----------------Rooney-----------------

I'd go with keeping the defence shored up, in view of our injuries, and then revert back to 3-5-2 for the second half to run the midfield.

We need players urgently, needing 2 reserve team players to start shows us how paper thin our squad is. Could do with Evra at the moment right now.:(

Any updates on the injury front? I hope all three of our central defenders can play. IF not, we are going to be relying heavily on youth players, which we may well do quite a lot of this season anyway. I hope they make us proud! Come on United!

You do know you have 12 players starting???

    Find out at 3pm BST.

What the match against Valencia showed is that if we play two strikers who want to stay up high and look for the final ball, then Mata will be isolated and easily closed down by a deep defence. You could see that, whenever our midfielders received the ball in midfield, they didn't have many short-passing options as Valencia clogged up the final third in the first half and start of the second half. Playing Rooney and Chicharito won't work well for this reason, and it's why we really need Welbeck to start as he provides us with another dimension up front and makes us more creative and fluid in the final third. van Persie will also be good in doing this.

We also need to play the ball quicker like we did in moments against Valencia. If we play the ball slowly, it will give the opposition time to organise themselves and make it difficult for us. Too often against Valencia were we moving the ball slowly, particularly in the second half after we took the lead. However, once we started moving the ball around quicker, we were on the front foot again.

Against Swansea, we'll have to move the ball around quickly. They'll look to sit back, so it might work well for us if we move the ball around quickly, particularly if they start to push up into our half and final third.

Injuries permitting (seems like Carrick and Shaw are the only two confirmed, long term absences):

    --------------------De Gea--------

    -----------Jones------Smalling----Evans*

    Valencia*------------------------------------Young

    -------------Herrera--------Fletcher-----------------

    -------------------Mata---------------

    -----------Rooney-----------Welbeck*

    If unavailable:

    * Blackett for Evans

    *Hernandez for Welbeck

    *Nani for Valencia

If we win the Caf be happy but will still demands signings asap if we won't win "we can't take the strain Captain"

To be fair i think you have to try these things. I mean refereeing is a farce half the time, a good chance they wouldn't notice i reckon.

Moyes is doing punditry on our game for Bein Sports

I'm going to have a stream going on during studio analysis

Hopefully the presser will shed light on the injuries of Rafael, Evans, Valencia, and Welbeck. If none of them are fit, then we're probably going to see the starting line-up from the game against Valencia.

    de Gea
    Jones Smalling Blackett
    Young Fletcher Herrera James
    Mata
    Hernandez Rooney
    --
Amos; M.Keane; Cleverley, Fellaini, Kagawa, Januzaj; Lingard

That's if no one else has managed to get fit in time, although I would rather see Wilson on the bench over Lingard or maybe Fellaini.

I have this persisting feeling that we'll struggle. Maybe a 2-1 or even a 1-0, but I doubt we'll cruise through this match. I'm certain we'll win it, though. LvG's momentum is too much for a team like Swansea.

I think our squad needs some fixing up, even without the injury problem. A new CM and CB are crucial if we wanna challenge.

    I´m going with this
    De Gea
    Jones Smalling Blackett
    Young Fletcher Herrera James
    Mata
    Januzaj
    Rooney

Evans is injured too? At least he said Young and Reece James can cover left back. But damn, my prediction of bot buying any defenders being a mistake is already turning out to be true. Also worried about Welbeck being out and he said RvP won't play.

Love the "I've already answered that" quip at the end. Doesn't mess about with the press.
    Any links to the conference?
    Google is your friend.

Any chance that Januzaj start this game now that Welbeck and Van Persie are not ready? I will not be surprised if Hernandez gets dropped after Van Gaal proclaimed that our last two performance was our worst performance in pre-season. He might be worth a gamble on fantasy team if he does start.
