No Fellaini? Shame on ye all!

    .......................Rooney...............................
    ...............Kagawa..........Mata.....................
    Young....Herrera.....Fletcher......Valencia
    .......... Blackett .. Jones .. Smalling ..........
    ........................ De Gea ................................

    or maybe

    .......................Rooney...............................
    ......................... Mata...............................
    ................Herrera......Fellaini..................
    Young...............Fletcher.........Valencia....
    .......... Blackett .. Jones .. Smalling ..........
    ........................ De Gea ................................
    Valencia is injured

I would rather play Kagawa with Rooney than Fellaini in midfield
Just because Fletcher and Fellaini have scored goals against Valencia doesn't mean that they're good enough (Yeah Fletcher must play because we've no other options)

For what it's worth, the following players feature in Getty Images' pics of friday training: De Gea, Amos, Jones, Smalling, Blackett, M.Keane, Rafael, Young, James, Herrera, Fellaini, Lingard, Kagawa, Januzaj, Rooney, Hernandez. Other players may have trained in the main group without appearing in the pics.

Odds on Swansea scoring first and then us scrambling to beat them the rest of the match?

Sounds about right to me. We'll play good football the first 20 min then they'll score a goal out of nowhere. We'll then tie it early in the second half and then it will be a nerve-wracking back and forth until we score at about the 85th minute. Then Swansea will put constant pressure on us until the final whistle.

    Final: 2-1
    Vintage United.

FINALLY! The season is here, feck the transfer window!

Can't wait for this, can't say confidence is through the roof because of injuries but I still think we'll nick it. The line up picks itself as far as I'm concerned, although I'm not 100% who'll start between James and Rafael.

    DDG

    Rafael - Jones - Smalling - Blackett - Young

    Fletcher Herrera

    Mata

    Hernandez Rooney

Obviously Rafa and Young as wing backs.

Prediction: 2-1 to United after going a goal down.

    Some facts from manutd.com

United are unbeaten at home on the opening day of the league season since Ipswich Town upset Frank O’Farrell’s Reds, featuring George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton, 2-1 at Old Trafford in August 1972. I hope I’ve not cursed us with that little fact…

You might not believe it, but tomorrow is the 11th anniversary of Cristiano Ronaldo's now famous debut during United's 4-0 win over Bolton at Old Trafford. Where does the time go? It's mad!

Swansea City are making something of a habit of facing United in significant managerial games for us. They were the visitors for Sir Alex Ferguson’s final home match in charge in May 2012, then welcomed the Reds for David Moyes’ opening league game at the helm three months later, and now they’re the opponents in Louis van Gaal’s first competitive encounter. Let’s hope for a third straight win.

im going for 3-1 for us

    De Gea
    Jones Smalling Blackett
    Fletcher Herrera
    Rafael Mata Young
    Rooney Januzaj

I hope Januzaj will play but i think Hernandez will start.

Have a feeling we'll concede first early on and then end up winning 3-1. Rooney, Fletch and Mata on the scoresheet. :)

9.15PM for an Aussie is an amazing timeslot, only comes along for united every so often. Means I can watch the game at a reasonable hour and then go out and get drunk to celebrate the 3 points

When did it become the FA Premier League? Or am I being stupid?

It's always been the FA Premier League, that's the name it started under in 1992. FA is still the regulatory body, Barclays are only the title sponsors. Just like Aon Training Complex will be forever be mentioned as Carrington or Trafford Training Centre in certain circles.

Vermijl didn't play in the reserves match yesterday.I won't be surprised if he's involved with the squad tomorrow.

    GK: De Gea

    CB: Jones
    CB: Smalling
    CB: Blackett

    RWB: Young
    LWB: James

    CM: Herrera
    CM: Fletcher

    AM: Mata

    ST: Rooney
    ST: Hernandez

Subs: Amos, Keane, Fellaini, Kagawa, Jaunzaj, Evans, Wellbeck

(Evans & Wellbeck is only if they are fit enough, otherwise I expect it will be Wilson & another youngster)

Was thinking about our dearth of striking options and wingbacks for tomorrow and wouldn't it make sense for us to go 3-4-3 rather than 3-5-2? Similar principles but with a packed midfield (to cover our blatant deficiencies there) and genuine attacking width.

    Something like:

    Young Rooney Januzaj
    Mata
    Cleverley Herrera
    Fletcher
    Blackett Smalling Jones
    De Gea
Obviously depending on the fitness of some players (which I'm sure we'll find out about today) and maybe with someone more match fit than Januzaj.
I love that line up! Perfect!

Id take any sort of a scrappy win tomorrow with the team we will have to put out. Hopefully get a few back from injury and sign Rojo by the time we face Sunderland. I reckon 3-2 United.
I highly doubt it will be a scrappy win though. We're talking about lvg here plus the couple days leading
    We're winning 4-1
Seriously I'm looking for 13 nil tomorrow.

    Can't wait for this!
Best way to start the season, here in Oz it's a 9:45pm ko, perfect to enjoy with a couple of beers....
    2-1 United.

So, need to wake up at 4:45 am for KO, or feck me, I'll be sitting in front of the tv from 4 am just in anticipation watching the US pundits blabber about soccer tactics. I feel after having watched United over 10 years and playing soccer myself for years, I know more than them. It it just me or they are actual shite?

Whatever the case, can't wait for it. GGMU :)

We will beat them comfortably, no doubt about this. This is the game Van Gaal has been looking forward to and preparing for since pre-season.

I might be one of the very few who wants to give Fellaini a couple of chances before we potentially ship him off.

With that in mind I'd like to see something like this, with Rooney further up the pitch:

    .....................DDG.................
    .....Smalling Jones Blackett...
    ....Rafa...........................Young.
    ..............Herrera Fellaini..............
    ......................Mata..................
    ...............Januzaj Rooney........

No interest in starting Hernandez. He's been awfully lately and he's almost guaranteed to be off. No point in even playing him.

I think 4-1. Rooney x 2, Mata and Herrera debut goal

It will be early kick off here in Malaysia at 7.45 pm :)

I would like to see this line up today.

    De Gea

    Jones Smalling Blackett

    Rafael Young

    Herrera Fletcher

    Mata

    Rooney Januzaj

Finally something else for the real football fans to talk about.

However can't genuinely believe I'm seeing people say "if we win all our opening games we won't buy (insert muppet favourite of the day) and we will stick with our squad.

Anyway come on united lots of attacking football and a comfortable win. Hopefully a few of the youngsters are going to get a look in.

Really hope I don't sleep through my alarm, starts in just over 4 hours which is 7:45 am for me, always hate these early kick offs Saturday mornings.

Blackett and James to make their full debuts. I hope Rafael is fit and Young plays LWB, because I'm not sure I like the idea of Blackett and James down the left together.
