Id take any sort of a scrappy win tomorrow with the team we will have to put out. Hopefully get a few back from injury and sign Rojo by the time we face Sunderland. I reckon 3-2 United.

    De Gea; Jones--Smalling--Blackett; Young--Fletcher--Herrera--James; Mata; Hernandez--Rooney

subs: Amos, Keane, Lingard, Fellaini, Cleverley, Kagawa, Januzaj

I would prefer Adnan over Hernandez but with the lack of match practice I highly doubt it.

I agree, would love to see kagawa instead of chica

Ye, wouldn't be a bad idea. He can drop off and link up play, whilst Rooney will have to do the running in behind.

As much as I like Hernandez, unless the balls put on the plate for him, he doesn't seem to get involved much.

Well, Shaw and Evans out injured. Dream home debuts for James and Blackett on the cards. Make us proud, lads!!!

If Rafael is available, we could see him take the Right Wing Back slot, with Young playing on the left over James. Blackett will still start.

    But who else should play??
Lingard is the only other option and i don't think Lingard is a good option as wing-back

I hope James will do a solid job
I agree, we're short tomorrow but in the long run I just don't think he has the pace for that role. solid backup mind

I think Rafael is only fit enough to be a sub, Van gaal said he trained yesterday and can play when he wants him to, sounds a lot more like he plans to sub him on.

Playing Chicharito in this system is like playing a man short. I wish he would give Adnan the start.

I think he would if he had been training with the team for a while. Not sure if he'd be fully fit like Hernandez.

    WWFD? [What Would Fergie Do?]

I think he'd play Rafa and avoid having two inexperienced defenders (Blackett & James) on the same side of the defence.

If Van Gaal puts Blackett and James out there together, then I think it would be a powerful testament to his confidence in their abilities.

Okay, after hearing the press conference I'm somewhat stuck on who to play beside Wayne. If he was fully fit, Adnan would be ideal, but I doubt he starts right now. It's between Kagawa and Hernandez I think. If Kagawa plays, I'd expect to see Mata playing in the second striker role. Hernandez would of course take up the poacher role. I'd rather Kagawa (though I'd probably just start Adnan) to Hernandez, so I'll go with this as my final prediction.

    1. De Gea

    4. Jones 12. Smalling 42. Blackett

    2. Rafael 24. Fletcher 21. Herrera 18. Young
    26. Kagawa

    8. Mata 10. Rooney

    Bench:
    40. Amos, 41. James, 31. Fellaini, 23. Cleverley, 35. Lingard, 11. Januzaj, 14. Hernandez

I had expected Robin to make the bench, but since LVG's interview, I suddenly feel like he won't even make the bench. Not sure why.

Anyway, James to come on for Rafael in the 60th minute, Januzaj to come on for Kagawa in the 60th minute and Lingard to come on for Mata in the 75th minute. I think Blackett will excel tomorrow (I hope he does anyway, he deserves to after how well he's done in pre-season). I think it will be a tough opening 20 minutes, with Bony causing problems in the air, but once we score, I think we'll take control of the game and I think the 2nd half will be relatively safe for us. I wouldn't be surprised to see us score more than 3 in the end, but for now, I'll play it safe.

    Predicted Score:
Man Utd 3-0 Swansea (Rooney, Mata, Young)

    EDIT: Wilson injured :(

I don't think that Hernandez is suited for the formation we play these days, so I want to see how a front three of Mata, Rooney and Kagawa will fare. All three combine well together, so it's hardly a crazy project now that RVP and Welbeck are out.

Januzaj, James and Hernandez/Cleverley to come on as subs.

I noticed that quite often on tour that 3-4-1-2 turned into a 3-4-2-1. Hopefully Kagawa will start over Hernandez

    Young - Fletcher - Herrera - James
    --------- Mata - Kagawa
    ------------ Rooney

Hernandez will start. Possibly Januzaj upfront with Rooney but I doubt he is fit enough.

Before he arrived I doubted the impact he could have, but as the season is about to begin I just can't see many managers being able to bet LVG.

I love his "9 injured players but i'm not worried" line, it just gives the players and the fans so much belief in him, and I can only see a win against Swansea on Saturday.

How were Swansea this pre-season? Do we think they'll end better or worse than last season?

It says it all that everyone believes (if they were both fit) Adnan should be starting ahead of Hernandez. He contributes so much more to our attacking build up. Same with Welbeck. Some of our movement was brilliant in pre season, but it stopped as soon as Welbeck got injured. The potential for attractive football increases so much more when Hernandez isn't on the pitch.

    hate to agree but...

Personally don't think james is quick enough as a wing back. Looked too slow against Valencia. Not excited by him
James did not set the world on fire against valencia but nor did many players on that night. I think he was carrying an injury during the tour and hasn't come back to full match fitness yet. Shaw is much faster than James but I think James can be fast too and he works hard from what I have seen although I agree I haven't seen that much of him except a couple matches and few reserves highlights. He is very good defensively.

I don't disagree but still think he is too slow

To think we are fielding a weaker team than a year ago is just frustrsting.
van Persie, Carrick, Valencia, Shaw, Evans, Welbeck injured or not fit to play. Nothing we can do about that but get on with it.
