    Why?

He's been the best central defender for us along with Jones in the three matches.

I haven't been that impressed with him, on the ball especially. Jones has been excellent for you but I don't think van Gaal would play Blackett unless he had to.

Just me speculating though, we'll see soon.

6 left footers. Must be the first time ever we have had the majority of players left footed in a team.

Feck, 8 out of 11 in the line up.

Thought Falcao would start for sure.

Just fecking play 4 at the back and Blind and Herrera as holding midfielders. How hard is it.

Let's see how RVP, Rooney, and Mata can manage do do feck all once again. They've been impressive at it so far this season.

For what it is worth, BBC reckon it is a 352 with Blind at LWB and Rafael at RWB.

People will change their views on the 3-5-2 when Raf and Shaw are back and fully fit as they will suit it much more. I think with a full and fit squad to choose from that system will work.

LvG's always said that he prefers 4-3-3 but that it hasn't been possible with the players available.

Now he's got four natural defenders, four natural midfielders (including di Maria here) and two strikers in his starting line-up and people are assuming it's a 3-5-2. What gives?

Happy to see Rafael back. Hopefully he stays fit.

Looks like a good team! I'm pretty sure we will change the system during this game. The team is versatile enough to change systems. Seems more like a Louis van Gaal team now.

Am I the only one ridiculously happy to see Pereira on the bench?

Me too. Looks like a great talent. There seemed to be more talk about Pearson and Rothwell but Pereira has always been the more talented IMO. Would be great to see him get some time on the pitch today.

Team should be strong enough to win. Hard to tell if we are playing three or four at the back as the lineup could play each really. I'd prefer the 4-4-3, but I think it will end up being the 3-5-2

Whichever formation it is we still have the same problems we've had all season, an attack devoid of width, pace or penetration. His team selections/formations have been a fu cking joke so far.

Cut out that stupid 3-5-2, LVG.

United need a strong manager! not one that decides to bin his idea after 3 games. Wait until LVG has his first choice back 5 until we decide to change back to a 4.

Add Shaw and Jones to the back line today and i don't see much to worry about long term tbh.

 Edit, But if rumors are correct and LVG has chosen a back 4, then i'm all for it! i'm soo excited for the game i don't care how bad my post are!

it is 3-5-2 though looking at the players in midfield it will need to be more like a 5-3-2

LvG did say that Blind would be playing a defensive midfield position, I wouldn't rule out a 4-3-3 to be honest.

Hope it's a diamond but really can easily go from a diamond to a 352. I think that's the key with Blind/Carrick, with one of them playing you can simply transition between the two as needed. I think the bigger key is herrera and blind freeing Di Maria to push on and provide some extra runners, we need that to force the opposition players to get out of position. Otherwise it all gets too congested.

The front 3 is the same old, same old. Not that Rooney, RvP and Mata aren't quality players, but I don't see them suddenly rediscovering their dynamism/tempo. I was hoping for a bit more new blood in the forward positions.

But much more width then recently no? Rafael is much better down the right. On the left Di Maria can move there and our LWB too.
