BTW I am not sure we were playing the 4-4-2 diamond today. Very often I observed that Rooney and RvP were wide forwards and Mata was playing like a #9. This is clearly illustrated in the Herrera goal.

It looks like we were playing a formation that was very fluid with players exchanging positions very often.

Chelsea beat promoted Burnley and Leicester......people call them champions elect
Man Utd beat promoted QPR......it's only QPR

Its easy to underestimate how well we played today. At times QPR had 11 men in defence, when ANY team does that its hard to break down. The fact that we opened them up time and time again shows how well we played. To do that with 4 new players, who only trained together for the first time on Thursday is really impressive

Confidence was on the floor. We've had a year watching players struggle to perform at OT, and 4 new players coming straight in. This was a really top notch performance, and to say otherwise, or belittle the opposition is naive in the extreme

This was the start of our recovery, and its very encouraging

I watched the press conference when we unveiled Falcao and Blind. Blind might as well not have been there, with all the focus on Falcao. I'd like to think he's showed how important a signing he will be now. Di Maria rightly took the plaudits, but Blind was the one who knitted the team together. Top marks (Rojo too - cool as!)

United really need to really work a lot in getting the players in sync .

Sync between de Gea and defenders - Rojo , Blackett need to be improved .
The over all communication between defenders were very poor .
There were 4-5 dangerous minus passes which almost landed with the opsion players.
If QPR had a decent striker they might have aleast converted 2 of them .

Mata , Rooney and RVP has to match with Di Marias Speed ..

Herrera and Blind played a decent game !!

Rafeal need to show the same entusisam to get back to his position when he move foward ..

I think Di Maria made a few of those, otherwise a great performance.

Who has Jon Champion commentating the match, I cannot stand him he is so bitter every comments is like a snipe at us.He a City supporter ?
I didn't think he and Jim Beglin were that bad at all. He supports York City.

Clearly playing 3-4-3 diamond formation. With Mata playing CF role

When not in possession both forwards start wider and Mata pushes higher up. It was the same when we played the 3-4-1-2 and it's the same now. I assume it's to stop their fullbacks just running riot down the wing but it's clear that's how van Gaal wants them positionally to also stretch the pitch. I loved the formation though, it was so fluid and worked really well.

It was still predominantly a diamond though even though. For Mata's goal it was highlighted when Green was about to take the goal kick. Mata, Di Maria, Herrera and Blind were in a perfect diamond and when we countered Mata when straight down the middle and Rooney/van Persie pulled slightly wide. It's a very fluid and interesting formation.
