what we need is for them to play dzeko along side augero and shft silva to the wing. This gives space for Herrera and Carrick to control that midfield. No Kompany would be a bonus.

My stupid bet of the weekend has us 4-0 at HT but finishing 4-2. 1200/1

Hopefully the City lads are on their holidays so I can book mine with the winnings :)

Good luck. We are 4-0 up at half time Im going to start getting excited on your behalf.

Cheers bud, I'd take a scrappy 1 goal win all day but got a feeling something daft is going to happen sunday, one way or the other.

I tell this story often but I once put a bet like that on, FA Cup final years ago when Chelsea played Boro I think it was? I said Di Matteo first to score, Chelsea win 4-1. I think it was around 800-1 or something like that. I was a student and had a quid on it.

Di Matteo scored within the first minute or something crazy and with 10 minutes to go (maybe longer I cant remember exactly) Chelsea were 4-0 up. I was sitting there screaming for a Boro consolation. The whole house was, it was drinks on me if I won that bet. But it wasnt to be. Massively disappointing, I felt so close I actually became convinced I would win and when I didnt it felt like I had lost £800.

 Been there mate, I just put my phone away now and try to forget about them till FT, the 'cash out' options are so annoying.

I just went back and tried to find out what game that was and Im completely wrong about the score. Seems Chelsea won that game 2-0. So I must have had the bet on a 2-1 result. So I doubt the odds were anywhere near as good as Im suggesting either. Still, I remember being very excited.

I would rather Kompany to be out. He is struggling for form this year but he is still a leader. I hope they go two up top as they will be more vulnerable in midfield however with Jovetic and Bony out, I think they'll go one up top. A lot over at Bluemoon seems to want one up top as well.

They have to play one upfront, if they do? I will be gutted has we may not get the better of the possession for allot of the game

I had it worse I believe. I put a bet (2 zł - 0.40p) of 20 odd games with some really shocking results in there, too. Could have won 2,700 zł (500 pounds) which obviously, for a then 16 y.o. lad from Poland was absolutely massive. I know zounds of people who need two months to make that like shop assistants for example. Was getting ready for the cash out and had already told so my parents just before the last game on my bill: Osasuna Pampeluna - Barcelona.

That was by far and away the safest bet on the coupon, basically the only 'easy' one I had in there. Went for the clear away win. Ronaldinho and co. were fluffling some absolute sitters, the closer to the end, the more chances they created (and missed). The last 10 minutes... Agony.

    They're saying:

    Nasri----Silva----Milner
    ---------Aguero

It will give them good balance.

Still hurts to this day. Everything was good til the 67th minute....

The joke I have always put against VG, is our possession game is like this off the simpsons, before we started to show a cutting edge and intelligence about our play

There is more intelligence in our play, and midfielders who can dictate a football match like Carrick Herrera and mata, and mobility in our midfield and creativity. It's only recently have We started to stopped playing either average midfielders like anderson, players a shadow of their former selves like scholes giggs Fletcher. So it's nice knowing we have A midfield that can compete with our rivals

I am glad too that things have started coming together. Guess we took longer than other of Louis' teams to finally click into gear and understand his demands.

Yea its a shame they are not going to play 4, I do think if they played 2 upfront, we would have strangled the life out of the game, if that is what they are going for, its going to be much tougher now.

No offense to fernandinho toure milner and silver, that midfield against our 5 in midfield we would overrun them, now toure fernandinho nasri silva and milner, could give us some problems

I meant that in the mildest sense. I just don't see why we should change anything when Young is on form and has done more than enough to cement his place ahead of ADM. It's just my opinion and that's what a forum is for.

I certainly agree that balance is as important as quality, you don't want a whole squad of Angel di Maria's, adding in Ashley Young would make a team of di Maria's better.

Young spreads the defense wide, creating space in the center of the pitch, and does a great job of retaining the ball in tight places and in general. He shift the ball back inside for the most part, but again they can't all be stars. Fellaini and Rooney end up being the recipients of the goals and assists that come through passing moves including Young.

It's hard to say where to draw the line in the debate of offense vs. defense, it depends on tactics that I only have a passing understanding of.

I think di Maria can also play that same role of spreading wide and recycling possession. His passing percentage has been better than Young's for three straight games now. Yet a perception persists that he misplaces more passes than he completes and Young never gives it away.

I'll be pleased either way, I've been really impressed with Young's determination, professionalism and resurgence, I hope he scores a hat trick.

What has been partly been good for the model of finishing teams off recently, when young cant do anymore, injecting a fresh Di Maria onto the tiring teams, can not only add another gear, but that gear can shift us onto another level like our second goal against liverpool when Di Maria came off the bench to assist mata's second goal. So I think after 55 minutes, bring off young, put on Di Maria and we can put teams to the sword. And a fresh Di Maria against tiring teams, is almost cheating

I'm really looking forward to this game, pretty much the opposite to what I was feeling in the build-up to the Liverpool game, I hope my confidence isn't misplaced.

If win beat City on Sunday I don't think anyone can doubt Van Gaal's credentials as a coach. That would give us only one defeat to last seasons top 4 so far this season in the league. I don't think Fergie's record was that good in recent years against the big boys around us.

the 2007/08 season fergie had one hell of a record against the top 4
    united 2 0 chelsea
    chelsea 2 1 united

    arsenal 2 2 united
    united 2 1 arsenal

    liverpool 0 1 united
    united 3 0 liverpool

13 points out of 18 that year

Sorry, false alarm. Not sure what I was looking at :wenger:

Bony out and Kompany is a doubtful starter, is the news.

I am not liking these predictions from everyone, and not liking the confidence, you can just see us been given the reality check that we have allot of work ahead of things go wrong. Let us hope that does not happen, because this momentum could be just like the back end of the 2005/06 season, when we played some of the best football we have played in a long time

I feel more confident than I have in three years but i'm still nervous. I expect Kompany to play 100%. Arsenal used to pull the same stunt with Henry. Was always a doubt.

Except the lanky bastad always seems to fill his boots here, despite seemingly having been 4th choice there for about 50years

    Sorry, what?
He pulls this trick every time he plays us and yet he's started every game he was supposedly a doubt for.
Hang on, we want him to play!
In current form, yes. But he suddenly turns into a immovable force against us and has Wazza's number in all honesty. I'd rather see Mangala start but we all know it will be Kompany instead.

    @Ronetta

You think it would be best for us to park the bus? That would have been true earlier in the season when we were vulnerable to high pressing. Now our passing game has evolved and we thrive in matches where we have more possession. I would say that YOU'D have a better chance of winning this game if YOU sat back and hit us on the counter. This is probably not going to happen so i'm expecting an open game with quite a few goals.

Not having beaten you in a while combined with our respective form and us playing at home, i can't see us losing. Not really buying this form goes out the window thing. You'd be happy to get a draw from this game. I've predicted a 2-1 win for us but i can forsee an epic match with 4-6 goals in it.

Would be fecking massive if we can get a result on Sunday. We'd go into the Chelsea game with huge confidence, lose and we go under pressure.

The thing is? we do not park the bus, we are just very well drilled and disciplined, and never force the play. Apart from a few moments of madness overall, but he is forgetting, city are not playing united that were either a mess under Moyes, or at times so inept under fergie. This is a united team that has been drilled NFL style under VG, if we lose? it will be a close game. But gone of the days of players so idiotic in possession, no identity in our passage of play, and no longer playing average players, or players past their sell by date. City are going to have to play well above their limits because they will be in a battle, unless united do not turn up. We play with our heads, and not our hearts, and we are never inept when we go into these games these days, and city have taken advantage of that since 2011. Especially of a declined united side that was well over due a rebuilding job, because of the inept style of play, and idiotic transfer and management decisions which we are now coming to terms with, and starting to keep up with the times. Now we are starting to do that, you can see across the board, we can compete again going forward

This team seems to love it under pressure, its the other way round we have been given a broken jaw, the worry still for me? is if we go a goal down, that is one of the final traits we have to start over coming, when we go a goal down we have to learn how to over come that, and start winning these games from a goal behind, because under VG we have not done that much this season

Not sure if directed at me or Ronetta. I agree with you, our high pressing possession football is working now.
