Same team as Villa although I like to see Di Maria in for Young.
Despite our fine form and their not so fine form I still see them getting a point at least and I would not be hugely surprised if they nicked it with the likes of Aguero, Nasri, Toure all having stormers.

Still I'm going to stay positive and go for 1-1 which is a definite improvement on three straight OT defeats.

Of course being extra positive, a derby win, point at Chelsea and beating Arsenal at OT would go a long way to having us finish runner up which would be nice!

I feel the same type of confidence as I did before the home match against Liverpool this season. Just a feeling of us in better form and being due a win against them.

Oh yes no doubting that, it's just we don't want to be overconfident, and get that huge nose bleed

I'm actually surprised how so many think that we will "smash" them. They really are out of form currently but I can't see a scoreline like 3:0 (vs Liverpool). Yes, they did lose against Palace but they did not play that bad. Selhurst Park is a very tricky place to go to and it could happen to anybody.

They definitely will up their game and it will be a battle. Even though I think that we go in to this game as somewhat favorites and we have the best chance to beat them since 2011 (as far as form and confidence is concerned), it will be very hard.

    Is it really so crazy?

I'd be happy either way, but if we wanna go for the throat and put pressure on them from the start, I'd pick di Maria.

I know which player the City supporters hope is on the bench.

It's not crazy but it seems a little silly. Young has been performing well both defensively and offensively. Also, I think we'd be more measured in our approach with Young than Di Maria.

I had the same exact feeling you did for the Liverpool home game and it wasn't a surprise at all we beat them. Maybe the game at Anfield too.

Now for this game against City, I just can't see past a disappointing draw. D - R - A - W stamped all over it. Both teams will be set out cautiously and the over-confidence for us winning is naive and misguided. That's my gut feeling and it's not going away dammit! That's the truth, and the caf deserves the truth!

A draw here will be fine.

Unlike 2011 -14, we are no longer this inept tactically retarded team, opening ourselves to being hit on the counter etc. We don't go all out attack, and that is where that could help us in this game. I think we have been measured in every game since that terrible defeat to Leicester, and especially in the big games we have been very smart in how to play our rivals. If we start suffocating the ball, and City play that 4 man midfield, we could give them allot of problems, has they do struggle against possession teams

With the exception of the last few games, it's a really polite way of saying we've been sterile in possession and have been measured to the point of being brain dead. But yea I see your point about needing that extra flair in attack could be helpful against City.

Yep a few seem to be ruling him out, surely good news for us regardless of Kompany's form.

I'm laughing at some of their comments "Kompany always keeps Rooney in his pocket / always dominates Rooney"... Pretty sure I can remember at least 5 Rooney Derby goals whilst Kompany has been playing!

Haha! Off the top of my head, Rooney scored in the league cup 4-3 win, the famous 4-3 home win, the over head kick, the FA cup win (x2), the 3-2 win at the Etihad (x2). Pretty sure Kompany featured in all of these.

Last year we lost 0-3 at home, when he was the only player to run and show motivation that day and 4-1 away, he scored a perfect free kick a 4-0

The year before we won away and he was MARVELOUS scoring two goals. And we lost at home having +15 points

Before we lost 6-1 at home and 1-0 away, and was destroyed by Kompany yes, but he was once again marvelous in the FA Cup in January, and was also good during the Community Shield

The year before, he scored this overhead kick, but he was poor that game, and we drew away 0-0

The year before, he was good in the 4-3 scoring one (but this day Fletch was outstanding), and he was injured away when Scholesy scored that header, then been kissed by Nev'. And he scored the winner that year in Carling Cup at home, but I don't think that Kompany was already at City in 2009 ?

Completely forgot about the free kick, in a game, as you state, in which he was our only decent player.

And yes, Kompany has been at City since 2008. He started in the league cup game, where Rooney scored the winner, in injury time.

He also scored in the game back in 08/09, where Ronaldo was sent off for the hand ball.

I don't remember Kompany playing in the 4-3 league match but I can add the 0-1 in 2008 (tap in after Carrick's shot) and last season's freekick at the Etihad to your list which would take us to 7. Of course Kompany has gotten the better of Rooney in some matches but its always a good battle - as these goals indicate!

You're correct, but lets just assume he was afraid of playing against Rooney!

we want Kompany IN. He's long slipped from being one of the top defenders in the league.

Kompany was great in the rooney overhead kick game

All this hype in the media about us being clear favourites, and about how diabolical City's form is is really making me twitchy. Almost asking for trouble.

Good I want him playing. He's all over the shop right now and got red card written all over him.

Kompany has been good against us in recent years, even when he's off form he's raised his game. Would love him to be out.

There was a run of games against City where Kompany was always injured before the match and then was magically fit to play by kickoff, would have a stormer, and then be injured again for the next couple months. Was always frustrating. Aguero's done it a couple of times too.

The joke I have always put against VG, is our possession game is like this off the simpsons, before we started to show a cutting edge and intelligence about our play

There is more intelligence in our play, and midfielders who can dictate a football match like Carrick Herrera and mata, and mobility in our midfield and creativity. It's only recently have We started to stopped playing either average midfielders like anderson, players a shadow of their former selves like scholes giggs Fletcher. So it's nice knowing we have A midfield that can compete with our rivals

Nobody in their right mind would rather see Kompany fit and out there. He's in patchy form, but his loss is a blow for them nonetheless. He's more than capable of putting in an excellent performance.

Leaderless in defence against a United side full of form and confidence? I'll take that. Let's see what the most expensive central defender in British history is all about at Old Trafford.

Kompany was great in the rooney overhead kick game

Was talking about Rooney... He was poor,. If I'm right we played a 4-5-1 with only Rooney up top with Ando + Scholes + Fletch. And I was stunned when Berba came on for Ando, switching to 4-4-2, because I thought that day that Roo deserved to be substitued....

The proof is his back pass just before the goal. Berba to Giggs, perfect, to Berba again. To Rooney who missed the pass, and then Scholesy took the ball and gave it wide to Nani (MOTM this day)

So good memory, I was in the stand and I don't remember the overhead kick, just saw the net shaking, Joe Hart stepping back and Rooney running !

I am very confident, the last time I could say that in the derby is a long time ago. We will beat them and maybe it's too much to ask for, but I also think we could get our revenge for some disatrous results in the last few games. Our team is full of confidence, we are the best team at home, City on the other side is out of form and fecking shit away. If we score a early goal, I can really see us overrunning them.

If Kompany is out I think United will win. That said, there is always the chance that beating a very tame Spurs side and a ridiculously bad Liverpool side might get to the players head a bit. Don't get me wrong, they were obviously huge wins - but they weren't huge battles. United need to get themselves ready for a huge battle because that is what this will be as is any game where Aguero and Silva play. If Kompany is in, I'm going for a draw or 1 goal win for City. If he's out, 1 or 2 goal win for United.

    Mangala and Demichelis :lol::lol:

He'll obviously make a great recovery and put in his best performance of the season though

Any comfortable win at anfield is a huge result, despite they went down to 10 men. Let us not forget we have lost twice to a tame swansea side, that we usually beat 9 times out of 10

Great Paul merson predicted a United win, you can sense we getting that nose bleed come sunday

To be fair form means nothing in these games. Citys ceiling level is still higher than Uniteds, even if they are playing averagely and United playing well.

It'll be an exciting game, but I would like a 0-0 draw with a few red cards!
How do you measure that exactly? Do you mean the talent's ceiling of each player or what? For me City's main strength has been the overperforming of players like Milner, Navas and Clichy. I don't buy the general view that 'They have a wonder team but some of the stars underperform' which would mean they have massive room for improvement.

Looking at that City side suggested by some I'm far from being overwhelmed to be honest. I can see 3 great players like Silva, Kompany, Aguero in the first 11 but that would be that. On paper, Mata, Di Maria and Rooney surely match that if you're talking about talent purely.

I honestly can't see how our best 11 is significantly worse than theirs. It's extremely close.
