Form means very little going into these games, as history has shown us.

I am confident of a City win, not because of my blue tinted specs (though tinted they are), but because City tend to win unless one of two things happen:

    A) the opponents park the bus and we press and press and start to play higher and higher up the pitch and then we get caught out on the break, often with comedy defending on our part. Or,

    B) we are totally outclassed and overrun in midfield and can hardly get hold of the ball. Particularly when Yaya can't be arsed on the day.

I don't see A or B happening. (A), you won't be parking the bus and a fast, open and expansive game plays right into our hands. And (B) because Yaya will most definitely be up for it. A midfleld four of Yaya, Fernandino, Silva and Nasri (or Navas) will be enough to keep you lot busy. And we may very well play 5 in the middle anyway with Silva as the attacking mid behind Aguero. Either way, you aren't going to keep us off the ball for most of the game, which you would need to do.

Therefore I predict a City win. City usually win if A or B doesn't happen.

The only way City win this game is if you do the well-worn small-time City routine of raising your game for the only game that matters to your fans.

Because you've been shite this season. Moyes like defence of a title. United should be beating you at home.

There are two certainties for Sunday:

    1. Aguero will score.
    2. Kompany will have the game of his season.

Everything else is up in the air.

You can't be worried about either of us catching you at this stage. Arsenal might be in with a (very very slim) shout, but there's no way the title ends up in Manchester come May.

True, but draw with red cards would be best, might quieten a bit of a hype around here and keep City down in 4th! Plus then some players would be out vs us :p

Least we won't have to deal with that shitc**t Costa

Honestly, my intention was not to wind you guys up. That was just a bonus ;-)

And to be completely fair, who knows who will win Sunday since it's a derby and in these games anything can happen.

But I was being serious about City's form. We are at our worst with teams that park the bus, and that is NOT you lot. I expect an open game with end to end stuff and chances galore and in those circumstances I expect us to come out on top. Doubtless you expect the same the other way around.

Should be a brilliant game I think. May the best team win!

You struggle against possession teams is well, look at the way you have performed in Europe. Barca are not even that great with the possession game has they once was, and they still dismantled you. And I think if you play a 4 man midfield, against united's 5, you are going to get overrun. Let us Not forget the result at anfield this season, I think city have to play a 5 man midfield

United 2 - 1 City. Rooney, Di Maria for us and the usual for Aguero. Nice and tight

Don't flatter yourself, bloody hell. After 31 games last season you were 12 points off 4th place. City are 9 points behind the leaders (potentially 12). Our title defence has been poor but it's not even remotely comparable to the laugh-a-minute season that was United's under David Moyes.

Pretty nervous about this game.. will City really lose 5 away games in a row? Will United really lose 4 to City at OT in a row? Surely Aguero will turn up again? Will Falcao actually do something? Will Rojo finally score a screamer?

    Watch it be 0-0

    Classic derbies: City 2 - United 3 (April 1996)

    http://twii.edgeboss.net/download/twii/manutd/video_mufc_20141029_city9596.mp4

Daniel Burdett, a United fan from Warrington:
"Nineteen years on, this great match is still fresh in my mind. I was in the North Stand away end that day and can remember us getting a penalty early on in the match, which Eric Cantona scored from the spot right in front of us. At 2-1 up at half time, the mood was good amongst our fans. Our nerves were not helped when Uwe Rosler got an equaliser well into the second half. We didn't have to wait long for the winner though. The sense of relief and celebration at full time was brilliant. Winning at City is one of the best feelings as a United fan.

"The win was extremely important and we all felt that we needed to win there that day. A few days earlier, our title rivals Newcastle had lost 4-3 in an amazing match at Anfield, which had done us a big favour. As an added bonus to many United fans, a victory over City would sink them into a relegation battle for the rest of the season.

"Eric Cantona was our biggest hero in that United side and rightly so - it's great to still hear our fans sing about him to this day. Outside the ground, Maine Road was not a ground that you would wear your United colours at. Inside, the atmosphere for Manchester derbies was always great to experience. In the time I have been following United since 1986, this definitely stands out as one of the best matches against them."

The Thing is, United don't play a fast open game, this is not the fergie days, or his final few years of 2009-13, plus and defiantly not the open team of 2011/12 United, or the United in September time. It's a very disciplined United team all about using their heads, when it comes to using the ball. So I have no idea why a few city fans think United are playing this open expansive football

According to Wikipedia, Rooney is the top scorer in Manchester Derby history with 11, but does anyone know how many Aguero has?

    3-0 United.

I know form doesn't mean a thing in derby games but there's a lot more going downhill than their form.
To me City seem like they don't have any team spirit anywhere near the squad and if that's true, they cannot raise their game even it's the derby day.

It's time to shut up the bitters and I'd go like that:

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera Fellaini
    Mata Rooney di Maria
    changes / decisions:
    - Smalling returns from illness. Jones the one for me to make way.
    - Valencia and Blind keep their places as they were solid and too much changes could be bad
    - di Maria in for Young. Young normally deserves to keep his place but Angel is that type player who can make the difference and despite Young playing well, Di Maria is still more productive when on the ball.

If we manage to win and also finish about City at the end of the season, it would be an unbelievable massive boost to us.

I see no reason to change the team from before. Maybe have RVP instead of Falcao on the bench?

Be careful. Seasons not done yet and everyone fancies their chances against City now. It's a slim possibility but if the capitulation continues top 4 might just slip away. Whatever happens it's all relative. United were in major transition following huge changes and success wasn't expected to the point that we were 3rd or 4th favourites for the title despite being reigning champions. City were supposed to be reinforcing their position this season as the new force to be reckoned with but you've been woeful. I'd say relatively speaking and bearing in mind pre season expectations City's season is becoming just as catastrophic

They're season is about the same has the 2012/13 season, out of Europe early, feeble title defence, a comfortable top 4 finish, and not showing any kind of desire to keep up the levels they are capable of. Adding the fact a change of management will probably take place, it's the same thing

Not once but twice shite defence of titles, adding to this an embarrassment to the English league in the Champions league. It was only a matter of time that they were going revert back in our shadow, and no better time to start than on Sunday.

I am not a city fan but this is a troll post

Losing to Barcelona doesnt make you an 'embarassment'. No PL team bar Chelsea have managed to beat them in the CL in recent times....

They will make the top 4. No way Citeh dont make it. You are right that they have had a poor season but some are going too far..they are better than Pool

Yeh like I said its a slim chance they feck it up. Are they better than Liverpool though? They have been but that City team is starting to deteriorate and I don't think there's much between them.

Expect Aguero to turn into Messi
Expect Toure to turn into a unstoppable tank
Expect Kompany to turn into a colossus sweeping everything up

It happens every fecking time, the team needs to put it right and get revenge for last season.

I guess we'll find out on Sunday, seeing as we dominated Liverpool with ease for large periods at Anfield. City seem to struggle against possession football, so it shall be interesting, as LVG would say.

Nah City seem to stuggle against teams who are resolute as Palace proved on Monday
We are only one point ahead of them and we spent big in the summer. People are going on as if they are 6th or 7th

Agreed. e've handed them 3 points too often in the recent past and allowed them to perform. We were beaten before we set foot on the pitch at OT last year. I don't see that happening Sunday if we play our game and in fact I think we're a better team than them now.

A win puts a nice marker down as part of a reversal of fortunes but whether it happens Sunday or not we are improving as steadily as they are declining.

I am nervous as we all are about this game. We've not been favourites for this fixture for a while, and there is a lot resting on this game, and we have two more tricky fixtures to follow. I opted for 2-1 Utd but I would take a draw. I don't expect a classic but we're all fearing the ultimate game rasing gits will turn up. I think we have the momentum to compensate and so a narrow win. Herrera and Fellaini to score.

    Classic derbies: United 3 - City 1 (December 2006)

    http://twii.edgeboss.net/download/twii/manutd/video_mufc_20150408_City06.mp4

Mike Marron, a United fan from Stockport, recalls: "This was the season (2006/07) when Ronaldo and Rooney really began to click together and I recall they were both excellent in this game. One thing that also sticks out for me is that both teams were fairly shambolic defensively. Although Rooney’s opener was well taken, he was unmarked in the penalty area, something that seemed to set a precedent for the rest of the game. In truth, the score could have been much more than 3-1.

"I’d certainly include this as one of my favourite derbies, largely because it was the first derby in the season when we began to reassert our dominance domestically. We hadn’t won the title for over three years at that point, so to beat City fairly comfortably and move eight points clear of Chelsea at the top of the league really made a statement.

"You can definitely notice an air of excitement and tension around the ground on derby day, everyone knows the importance of it. A lot of people from Manchester go, people who have been brought up with the derby, and that helps to generate a great atmosphere. It’s a massive game for fans on both sides, with so much pride at stake."

Think we have a good chance, we always seem to get a good start these days, so I'm hoping to put two goals past them in the first half. 2nd half we will be less impressive and we'll concede a goal and probably play it out 2-1, that's my prediction.

If we did not mess it up earlier in the season by losing smalling, we could have done anything and we nearly did. But we look at the way we have lost to city in the past, a combination of inept Moyes, an ageing fergie never bothering to strengthen our engine and playing midfields of carrick cleverly valencia young, Moyes done that this last season. If we go further back, we were fielding guys like fletcher declining, anderson, nani, valencia again, with scholes and giggs on they're last legs, with no mobility or players capable of competing in these big games half the time. I look at us going into sunday's game, with carrick herrera mata fellaini possibly di maria, there is a huge contrast to the quality of our midfield this sunday, to what we had in the past. It will be the first time this season, will we have the team capable of competing on a quality level

Since SAF's last season Ive been nervous as hell about these games and always felt a draw would be a good result. But this weekend I feel we can and should win.
If we play with the same sort of intensity as against Liverpool we'll have every chance. If we serve up another meek, watery performance like we've done in the past couple of seasons against them then they'll do us over, poor form or not.

Don't flatter yourself, bloody hell. After 31 games last season you were 12 points off 4th place. City are 9 points behind the leaders (potentially 12). Our title defence has been poor but it's not even remotely comparable to the laugh-a-minute season that was United's under David Moyes.

But this defence is under the same manager who won the league last year, whereas ours was under a different manager. So there are different factors.

I am worried you might get a good manager one day, who will weed out the mercenaries, get some really good characters in, which with your resources does spell big problems for everyone else.

Though I'm eager to see AdM get playing time (at Young's expense), it is hard to see a need to disrupt the rhythm this team has at the moment.

You could still bank on him coming in at the hour-mark though...

Hate it when we play Sunday's, especially when it's a huge game. Really don't know which way this will go. We'll either win comfortably or lose pathetically, can see a red card and a huge ref feck up. Getting excited though, huge game for both teams.
    Hope we're up for it

That's alright, apparently you can just restart the game from the point of incompetency now.

A win here would all but seal the top 4 and put us in a great position in regard to finishing above City and getting automatic qualification (whether that be 2nd or 3rd).

A loss for them would put them in a top 4 battle so it's huge for them aswell.

Starting to get pumped up for this... Really hope we start di maria. Perfect time for him to come in and get back into top form after a good sub appearance.
Only question mark is what the center back pairing will be, depending on if smalling is fit.
This lineup is probably our strongest when all are fit though and it's very strong all around.

    De gea
    Valencia smalling Rojo Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera fellaini
    Mata Rooney di Maria

You can just see us losing this game, just has many thought we would lose at anfield. It's just typical of the beast

I feel the same type of confidence as I did before the home match against Liverpool this season. Just a feeling of us in better form and being due a win against them.
