We seem to be stuck in some sort of eternal belief that he will surely just improve if he keeps playing, like constantly betting on red at a roullette table, only in rashfords case it's more likely to land on green. The only positive is that he has a reasonably good record versus liverpool - 7 goals i believe. But he was a different player then.

Hopefully the club have told Rashford he is drinking in the last chance saloon...this must surely be his last game as a starter if we see a performance like the last few games- time to show up or be shipped out in January.

I think Garnacho off the left is better than Rashford off the left in current form. It's about putting the best cumulative 11 on the field and I think Garnacho/Amad provide that more than Rashford/Garnacho. Plus from an impact standpoint, Amad isn't the type that can come off the bench and provide a spark. He's a guy that needs to be there from the start, get in a rhythm, and find openings. Garnacho is much better at being the guy off the bench that comes on and just starts running at people.

This is the main problem. The dippers will give us the runaround for 70 minutes then if they aren't already ahead then they will absolutely twat us in the last twenty. We have to be ready for that but I'm not sure how. Maybe try and play more possession by playing de Ligt instead of Maguire?

De Ligt isnt the fastest or most agile player in the world but compared to Maguire, de Ligt is a race car.

The only way to defend Rashford starting and Amad on the bench is if we plan to play super direct and over the top using Zirkzee to drop into space and draw the CBs out. In that setup, Rashford can be more effective because of his pace. Otherwise, this is a bad case of favoritism over form.

He’s not “very slow”, like Maguire is “very slow”. He’s just not lightening quick but you don’t need to be in that position, it’s your fullbacks which are expected to cover like that. As long as you have good positioning, which he does, then any time it’s a foot race with an attacker he should have a yard or two and be able to use his body to dictate the pace

The issue with Rashford keeping getting picked is that I think it's irreversibly corrosive for any side to role model the fact that how an individual plays has absolutely no bearing on whether he keeps his place in the team.

That isn't the example you set young players who are in and around the team. If you do, the outcome isn't going to be good.
