Good starting eleven but the bench looks weak as feck. As long as we can avoid any injuries that starting eleven looks strong enough to grab a win.

Has Garnacho ever looked as effective on the right? When was the last time we tried Rashford on the right?

The positive is that we’ll likely be sitting deep and hit on the counter which is one thing Rashford has always done well at.

Glad Casemiro is starting. Collyer and Eriksen just about enough option of the bench for one game - but wouldn't want either of them to have started and we really need Ugarte and / or Mount available to have any valid starter alternatives.

Happy with that starting XI. Very little available off the bench in terms of FB/CM/AM/ATT apart from Amad - who I'd have probably preferred starting instead of Rashford.

Bench and squad not very strong. So many injuries already. Case and Mainoo to tire and be our downfall.

    Missing Mount for this game.

Nice, our strongest side on paper. Glad to see De Ligt, Garnacho and Zirkzee starting. Rashford and Garnacho have already shown they are big game players so hopefully they show up.

Pitiful bench, but the best 11 we could have gone for.

Ten Hag officially dying on the Rashford sword. Will be the end of his tenure for sure

Fine with the line up. Presume we are planning to play on the counter, hence Rashford, Garnacho and Zirkzee. A bit harsh on Amad though.

Maybe rotate the one that's been shite? Just a thought.
Rashford has a great record vs Liverpool and offers more of a threat on the counter which will be useful. Also, Garnacho is far better on the right, so you want him where he is best and leaves Rashford on the left.

Happy with the team, it's our strongest XI right now that we can play

Garnacho is more effective on the right. Rashford isn't.

Garna better on the right and Amad wasn't great last game despite scoring.
Rashford kills almost every attacking move we make. I would love to see him return to the form he had the season before last but it seems mighty unlikely to me.

Such a dumb move by ETH here. Ive defended him a ton but dropping Amad and keeping Rashford here is indefensible. Amad has been better offensively, better contributing to the press, and just more effective in every way. Persisting with Rashford here is just dumb and if Rashford puts up a stinker and we lose, ETH deserves all the shit he's going to get.

Side note: The bench looks awfully thin, especially in midfield. We may need to see Collyer late in this one to provide some energy and that's not a smart debut to give a youngster (late in game in the PL against Pool). Setting him up to fail. I suspect instead ETH will bring on Eriksen or leave Casemiro out there for 90, either of which would be a mistake.

Our bench is so weak. Wouldn’t think we’d spent lots this window. Need the first team to finish this lot of
In a few weeks with the same line-up we would have Mason, Maguire, Antony, Ugarte, Luke Shaw, Rasmus Höglund, Leny Yoro, Diallo on the bench, probably over 300m worth of players right there. We have spent lots.

De Ligt's first start against some of the best attackers in the league isn't ideal, but he has the experience to deal with it. We need Licha to not be as gung-ho as he has been the last two games, can't get away with being turned against Salah.

I think we might see Amad coming on for Mainoo if/when he tires. Bruno to partner Casemiro, Zirkzee at 10, Rashford up top. I wonder if Collyer will have a part to play too. Ugarte could have made a difference.

Garnacho often seems better on the RW so I don’t mind it from that perspective.

Don't disagree but we don't really have another good LW

It kind of worries me that we'll still feel a bit thin squad wise when Shaw, Mount and Hojlund are back and Ugarte is available.

How does Amad get player of the month then get dropped.
It's a tricky one in the modern squad rotation era about what's 'dropped' based on performances and what's 'rotated' based on the need for other valid alternatives to get their share of playing time as well.

Garnacho wasn't on the bench because he was deemed below Amad and Rashford in the order - just that he'd been away at the Copa America and was being slowly eased into the season. All three of those will rotate as starters throughout the season. Maybe ETH prefers Garnacho for this particular game as we'll likely have less of the ball and be relying on more individual runs on the counter attack?

I’ve been critical of Rashford but starting him here is an obvious one when Trent / Salah are down one side
