With the midfield doing basically nothing, we have no protection at the back, and no connection between the front 4 and the rest of the team.
Some of our players are not at the standard to win big trophies, but put a decent midfield in there and they would look much better than this.I'd be very surprised to get a point here, let alone three.

Well, I guess ETH knows the size of the challenge now... I feel like this is a mental problem more than anything. The lads just looked scared out there whenever they were asked to play football in risky situations, like when playing through the press.
I think looking to play without a proper striker was also too much for these guys just yet, as pathetic as that sounds. The upside of that formation is usually lots of options outside the box and then lacking a finisher, but we didnt ever dominate possession. Keep it simple, stupid, is probably the solution here until ETH has had enough time to drill some tactical discipline into them. Think we'll see something simpler shortly.

Frenkie de Jong most certainly won’t be coming here now. Just about every player in a red shirt is playing like school boys. You can blame tactics or whatever but every player has been a let down. No way back from this today and I fear there will be plenty of games like this during the season. Worst football I have seen since Ole left. Not a single sign of optomism to be seen from this first half performance except to say we now must sign at least 4 players before Sept. 1st.

AgreeWe can't play a high line with maguire, that much should have been obvious and yet he's starting the first game. I can only presume that Ten Hag thought we'd dominate possession, but we don't have a midfield that are capable of keeping the ball.
