It definitely looks like the 'support in public, criticise in private' sort of thing.
I don't think the players who he needs to criticise can actually take that criticism and improve as a result of it. It might actually cause them to go further in themselves (thinking specifically of McTominay here). They just haven't got that top level mindset that this club needs. We just need them out and replaced.

People need to actually start watching games and see what is happening. If McT would actually do what he is supposed to do we are probably quite comfortable in this game. But he’s not.

There are two reasons we have struggled so far:
1. Fred and Mctominay in midfield is not working again. We never have control of games when they play together. It always feels like we only have one CM.
2. Both full backs have been poor. Shaw moreso. He's way too static. In the modern game, full backs are a constant source of energy in the team. They are supposed to invert and support Fred and Mctominay, providing more passing options up for the CB's. They're not doing that.
Dropping Eriksen deeper, subbing Luke Shaw and bringing on Ronaldo/another attacker should improve things drastically.
It's the brand new United.I hope the McFred duo are subbed, I don't mind Eriksen and Fernandes to play deeper centrally and bring Ronaldo and Garnacho and go for it.
