I agree Garner isn't ready. But how Andreas can look terrible every week and get away with it is quite frankly sad. It's embarrassing the state of our squad.

That midfield though... Pereira, Fred and Mata. Christ alive.

To be fair Ole deserves a small amount of credit for not bringing Matic back into contention. And for dropping Jones and Lingard and keeping them dropped.

But this team needs 3 new midfielders minimum. And that's before we get to addressing the lack of a proper goalscorer or right sided winger.

Who said we were going to build an entire team around Bruno ? No offense but really every new post of you comes with a more weird argument than the previous one. Bruno is a very good player who would have been a pretty good option to have instead of Periera or Fred. Still only 25, so pretty much at the beginning of his prime years. It would have been a pretty good signing and a better sight in our midfield than the shite show we have currently. What's that with "building a team around" stuff ? There's no club in the world now who builds an entire team around single player unless this player is Messi. And having only one creative midfielder entering a season is just asking for trouble to happen once injuries occur because what, injuries to key players in something that happened, happens and will keep happening to every club.

I notice that you disagree with more or less anything I say, so that's fair game, but I don't think we'll get anywhere. Mostly because you take my wording and apply meaning to it I I never intened.

If Bruno is a good player, why don't you call the OT brass, and tell them that. Or more importantly. Tell them *WHY* he' s a good player. And attach the datametrics that the club used to evaluate because it sure as hell beats the highlight reels.

We're never going to agree on much, so Ill respectfully end the discussion here.

We're going to get dominated in midfield. It's gonna be embarrassing. Just gotta go long into the channels and hope for the best.

I get that we need bodies in midfield because a midfield duo of Fred-Pereira is likely to get overrun 9 out 10 times, but Mata being the additional body doesn't seem like a sensible solution. Of course the alternative is either Lingard or Garner/Levitt/Tuanzebe all of whom played 90', midweek, halfway around the world, so there's no real solution.

Deciding against adding a midfielder in the summer must be one of the dumbest transfer decisions we've ever made.

Agree but in fairness we have a bunch of injuries. I honestly don't think Pereira as 3rd choice midfielder and Garner as 4th is bad in theory...

I don't think Pereira is even good enough to be a squad option for a team with the ambitions we should have as Man Utd. Obviously not writing Garner off yet, very early days.

Our midfield makes me feel physically sick to look at, even with McTominay. 2-1 United, I'll try and remain upbeat. 0-0 wouldn't stun me though if Villa park the bus.

    11/11.
Mata makes logical sense but in practice I don't expect him to be effective.

Mata lacks the pace to be effective in the modern game and his pressing is non-existent.

Give Periera his brain, technique, and passing ability and we would have some player.

So 3 teams above us (Arsenal, Wolves and Sheffield United) all earn 1 point only. Results couldn’t have went any better for us.

Gives us a chance to get 5th today.

It’s just become an even bigger game.

If the team don’t take this opportunity and use this as motivation, I’ll blow my top.

I honestly don’t reckon he’ll last until January, I think we’ll struggle today, lose the next two big ones and he’ll be gone.

Ole's under a lot of pressure to produce right now, especially with Poch available. The last thing he needed was to lose Mctom for this one, on top of Pogba.

Anyone know what channel we are on worldwide? I know we aren't on sky today so trying to find a stream?

    Arsenal drew then?

I think were all overreacting. The problem last week was clearly the formation. We are now playing our preferred 4231 so we should see less problems. Disregard this post if we lose!

Exactly, as long as we’re playing the likes of Fred, Pereira, Mata, Lingard etc the result isn’t in our hands.

Who do you start instead? Garner?

It’s a difficult one and really highlights how short we are in CM!

It’s Mata’s mobility (or lack of) I struggle with the most. I’d prefer to see Garner given a go, or even Axel in CM, with Andreas further forward. I’d probably even go 442 with Greenwood up top before starting Mata.

Hopefully he has a great game and scores proving me spectacularly wrong though!

If we win this, we go 5th. After such a crappy season, to be in that position and just 6 off fourth would be hardly deserving.

The players and manager should not need any more motivation than that.

Should have been brave and selected either Garner or Tuanzebe ahead of the tortoise that is Mata , but like I said before it's now all about self preservation.

We decided to not buy a midfielder that wasnt good enough was the takeaway from my comment.
Bruno Fernandes, Ziyech, Van de Beek, Can [I include as he was left out of UCL squad & continues to be linked to us] - players that didn’t move but were reported to be available in the summer.

Tielemans, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Barella, Rabiot, Gueye, Cabillos, A. Gomes, Dendoncker, H. Herrera - players that did move this summer; some to be squad players at UCL clubs admittedly.

I’m not a fan of a number of the players listed but all of them would moonwalk into our First 11 currently.

We were willing to purchase Longstaff which shows the club backed themselves to improve a player with time because he’s far from ‘good enough’ currently so when we were priced out of the move I refuse to believe there isn’t another talented midfielder in world football with scope to improve we could have pursued.

The ‘wasn’t good enough’ argument is a benign attempt to defend OgS for the sake of contrarianism; this squad is in need of so much talent - to say there wasn’t a midfielder in world football that we could have purchased & would have improved the squad is surely not something people believe.

I can't remember the last time we did this.:lol:

Incredible that he keeps the utterly failed experiment of Pereira in midfield going.

A win puts us 6 points off Chelsea if I'm not mistaken.

I don't expect us to get top 4 and we probably won't come close but it'd be nice to at least fight for it. Whether we win, lose or draw I still feel the happiness or sadness from the result but I'm never really prompted to look at the table and see where we stand because it doesn't feel like it matters as we're in no mans land anyway. Just hoping we can get to a point where it feels like it matters.
