People in the club who evaluate player targets, presumably based on the technique described by Ed Woodward in a recent interview. Basically, it comes down to advanced metrics. That' really all that anyone outside the club knows.

And why should we blindly trust the judgement of people inside the club ?

I can't believe this is not on TV, why the feck is it a 16:30 kick-off if we aren't accomodating Sky?

I’m actually glad we ain’t on the tv. We seem to play well when the Sky/BT cameras aren’t there as recently shown in our last two games that weren’t broadcasted live - Norwich (A) & Brighton (H).

I’ll take a similar result and performance today.

Macheda was never all that to be fair. He first team promotion was pretty random at the time.

He wasn't great, admittedly, but I felt he deserved a mention as it was a Villa fan I was replying too.

    "Machedaaaaaaaaaa!" was unforgettable

So you are pretty much saying we decided to not buy a midfielder? So back to square one. You honestly didn't prove anything wrong so far. We were the ones who decided splashing money on Maguire is more important than buying Longstaff or Bruno, not that we were forced to not buy any.

Buying a player just for the sake of buying someone is a strategy we'd be wise to avoid

Just because he is smashing it in the Portuguese league doesn't mean he is going to smash it in the premier league. He may improve us slightly, but maybe we are looking for someone who will improve us massively.

Man United is not the only club that seem to rate him, literally no other top club bought this summer for a ridiculously low price.

Bizarre way to look at things. So only sign players from PL,Seria A, La Liga?

And why should we blindly trust the judgement of people inside the club ?

Because the club employs analysts, scout and football people who are qualified to make those assessments? Who else do you trust to do it?

Who said he wasn't good enough ? If we thought Bruno wasn't good enough then we were stupid, plain and simple. More reasons to criticize actually.
We thought he gave the ball away too much, so we decided to play Pereira and Fred in midfield instead...

I'd trust Leicester's over ours to be honest...

If no one signs a player - usually there is a reason. Either they are all wrong - or maybe all scouts see something they dont like.

Decent team*, apart from that black hole of a midfield.

*Assuming that's Mata at 10, and not wide.

Young and Shaw.. both on the bench.. Probably because we dont have anyone else to make the numbers up..

Is Jones injured again, or has Ole seen enough ?

10/11 as I put Lingard instead of Mata... I did my prediction in a rush and I'm only just realising how stupid that was after Lingard played 90mins at the other end of the planet in the week.

Not happy with Pereira starting. Hopefully he can do better and we can win this game.

I sincerely hope Pereira is doing something in training to impress Ole and he repays that by a good performance today. Otherwise it’s another undeserving starting spot and the outcome will be the manager responsibility.

feck off Pereira again? Looking forward to us magically playing better the second he gets subbed off after we get dominated in midfield for an hour.

Garner and Levitt are no where near ready to start.. In a really strong team, alongside 2 first choice midfielders.. in an easy match.. sure. Not here

    I

Fred and Pereira did look poor in a pivot last week, but lets not forget they didn't have an attacking midfielder in front of them. To add to that, the movement off the ball from the front three was minimal.

Think Mata coming in will definitely help us, regards keeping possession of the ball. Hopefully we can start well and get an early goal.
