Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Good half. Plenty of tenacity in midfield and with Maguire and Mazraoui. Could have been a lot better if Højlund had taken his chance.

Incredible how it’s conveniently forgotten that Alisson is one of, if not, the best keepers in the PL
Yeah, specifically at 1v1s Alisson is probably the best in the world. At the same time, it was a really tame effort from a player with rock bottom confidence.

Alisson did well to narrow the angle for the Hojlund chance. The moment he took that touch Alisson was exactly where he needed to be.

It was a one on one but there wasn't much to shoot at.
Should have done like JSL against Spurs the other day, just hammer it towards the top. I think it was pretty much the same spot on the pitch.

Solid first half. With better decision-making and sharper finishing in the final third, we could easily have taken the lead.

That said, I’m not entirely surprised by our performance, despite the pre-game pessimism. Barring the Newcastle match—where we were missing key players—we’ve generally performed well under Amorim. The real issue has been our habit of conceding first due to sloppy mistakes, which has often derailed us. Once that happens, we seem to lack the mentality and, at times, the quality to claw our way back into the game.

Hopefully, we can maintain our discipline in the second half. If we stay focused, the chances will keep coming.

It's not so bad so far. Couple of hairy moments which is to be expected, but there's been times we've looked comfortable too. We've had our chances too though. Huge mistake by Amad being ahead of that cross though. We should be ahead but for that.

That is just so wrong. We have the lowest chance creation in the league during big the last month so no there are not loads of chances out there and a striker who puts away 1 in 5 would be a massive downgrade from Rasmus considering his chance conversion rate throughout his career. Just admit you are a hater and move on.
Haha, the Hojlund brigade can't take any criticism, always someone elses fault.

Great to see we have turned up. Best effort in a long time.
We rode our luck early on with Liverpool having two clear chances, since then pretty solid and had a few forages into their box but the usual woeful finishing.
Ugarte immense, mainoo looking lively too.

We've become the game raising cnuts we hated Liverpool to be a couple of years ago  but fair fecks to the players, they are doing more than decently. Game is cagey though, the longer we can keep them out the more likely a sucker punch.

Most of our games are like this with decent general play, even possession against top teams, dominant against others teams but we can't finish clear chances. Biggest difference so far is no silly errors at the back.

Hard to agree to be honest - why did Hojlund not head for the near post for the Fernandes cross? He carried on behind the defender never once even looking like he would even think that getting in front of the defender might be what was best. He lacks that instinct, that killer movement and touch.

I think we can possibly win this with the space Liverpool are leaving in behind. We seem to do well against the bigger teams who come onto us due to the space they leave in behind which works for us due to us being compact in a deeper block. The issue for has been when we play teams who we're expected to beat and take the game to. In that game state we struggle to create chances and the counter attack becomes harder to contain.

I'm worried that the missed chances will come back bite us in the arse hard. As good as the defense are, they'll need to maintain it for the rest of the game because Højlund just isn't up for it tonight.

But that was a pretty good first half!

It does feel that way, just hope that is not the case.

We will need to think about Dalot on a yellow against Salah as well, probably good to bring Malacia just in case. This is Oliver we are talking about, you just know that he will give that red if you give him any chance.

Playing well, on the ball very good Ugarte and Mainoo have done great other than a couple of balls in behind them, left side have caused a ton of issues, Hojlund has been bright.

Right side not much, De Ligt a bit sloppy on the ball.

Mainoo is our weakness link, positionally and passing have been poor, players go past him with ease except for one sliding tackle he won.

He's been up and down, had moments where his tight control and passing has helped break through presses, and that tackle was sweet. But he is also liable to getting outpaced in midfield because he's just a bit slow. You can see why he's the player he is, he can't rely on sheer speed so has to be cute with the ball in tighter spaces.

Basically yes, Hojlund should have done better but Alisson did excellent and showed why he is such a good goalkeeper.

You said what other club in the league would take Hojlund as their 1st choice striker. Southampton aren’t in the championship (well not yet anyway). They are in the same league as us.

    They're bottom with 6 points... they're a Championship side.

It’s really shocking seeing people criticize Dalot after this half of football. He’s been one of our best players.

Meanwhile Maz is offering nothing going forward on the right, and his inability to create space for Amad by stretching the play wide is also impeding what Amad can do.

Everything good we did offensively was on the left side and there is a reason Bruno and Dalot are finding a lot of space, and Amad and Maz none. It’s been the case for the past few games.
Maz is a central defender in this system. He just dosen’t have the stamina to play wingback.

They started very well and should've scored. We adjusted well and should've scored too. Even game so far.

We have problems as Liverpool runners from midfield into our box are not being tracked all the way.

Hojlund had to score that chance. There was another run he made behind Van Dijk, where Bruno showed him after the play was done that he had to be in front of Van Dijk.

Not sure why Dalot did not play the pass for Amad on the ground. It would've been much easier to finish. It's a shame that we played good, and we have nothing to show for.

Honestly it's frustrating how little of the ball amaf gets, they are blocking that pass constantly.

Start of the 2nd half is when we usually concede a lot of goals. Let's hope we can hold on as we know Liverpool will come flying out of the block
