Mainoo has been great in a lot of areas. He still misplaces piss easy passes though under slight pressure, even on his good games.
Yeah he does but hopefully that’ll get sorted as he gets more experience, I’d like to see him get a bit stronger like Ugarte as well. He can be brushed off the ball a bit to easy at times.

Other than that him and Ugarte are looking like a good pair.

My hunch is we end up narrowly losing but there’s plenty of positives and things to be hopeful about. We might even nick a point or a win.
    All bases covered

Liverpool have a great record in the second half
Liverpool usually do better in the second half
Liverpool get better as the game goes on
Liverpool have 25 second half goals...

Yeah well that's maybe more to do with the opposition getting tired and not having any 'asthma' medication to give them that second wind.

    Mainoo is doing fine
He's doing well at doing what Ugarte does (breaking up play), but he does give the ball away a little too often, something Ugarte only did once if I recall correctly. I also think sometimes Mainoo could be a little quicker in tracking back when Liverpool break.

Runs into the space the defenders vacated. If he goes near post and the cross is bent across then he would be criticized for that.

What's the agreed run in training, cos it happens every game

I don't know what he's been told to do in training but it looked obvious to me that Bruno was only to go low to the front post and Hojlund goes the other way. Terrible movement in my opinion.

Slot will make a change to their RB.
TTA has been poor and provided us with our best attack channel.
We haven’t caused much of a threat from our right wing, or through the middle, so we might be closed out of the game in the 2nd half.

Everyone's played quite well with Ugarte as the standout. They need to carry that energy into the 2nd half not lose focus as that will be immediately punished.

We’ve played out of their front press well.
We have, but I think they’ve half assed it a bit. Their backline has been deeper than I expected. I think if they try and squeeze up a few yards they might start getting us. Hopefully not!

Big difference in the aggressiveness of De Ligt, Maguire and Martinez stepping into midfield
That's the idea of back 3, they must step out and be the extra man in midfield, today in few occasions it helped that they stepped into midfield and tackled hard, if not, Liverpool attackers will have free run at goal.

Both teams being quite solid, playing to their respective strengths in a very tactical match, midfielders form both sides playing from good to great, forwards from both sides lacking a tad of finesse to end plays better. Entertaining match.

Impressive footwork in tight spaces and in tight angles. Actually looks like a striker. At only 5.8 and 134 lbs though he may be a bit too light to be as an out and out CF?
Dunno but I've been truly impressed with both his clinical finishes and his: "Might as well absolutely destroy the net" finishes.

Maybe not EPL material but La Liga and Bundesliga strikers usually do well for our NT.

He's been up and down, had moments where his tight control and passing has helped break through presses, and that tackle was sweet. But he is also liable to getting outpaced in midfield because he's just a bit slow. You can see why he's the player he is, he can't rely on sheer speed so has to be cute with the ball in tighter spaces.
Agreed. Not only he gets outpaced, but I don’t think he has the intensity and defensive awareness and capabilities to play in CM effectively. Yes he did have some good moments but the core fundamentals are lacking for the position IMO

Hopefully, we can kick on in the second half. We need the points.

But seriously enthused by our performance thus far.

We made 14 tackles that half, Liverpool made 0.
It’s kinda like the “hits” stat in hockey: not every check counts as a hit, and these tackles have been hits, if that makes sense. Like, you can nick the ball away and it’s a tackle but when you thump the fecker it should be called something else.

I am on Højlunds side, and he has worked his a.. of in the first 45 minutes. Alison in great in 1vs1 situations, but Højlunds finish was not good. It is no sitter, but he should have made Alison work more for it.

Let's be honest we all would have took 0-0 at half time. I just hope we don't come out and shit the bed second half like we have seen so many times before.

0-0 a fair result so far for HT. Neither team in the ascendancy. Both should have scored 1 or 2.

Some decent commitment, concentration and intensity from us in our own half, but no clue what to do in our opponent's. Similar story to other performances against better opposition under Amorim. Able to keep possession better than under ETH, albeit with moments of chaos and the the occasional error - thankful nothing that's cost us so far.

Reckon Slot will have them up the urgency and control in the second half - because they have another couple of gears in them - and get us under the cosh. We're playing about as well as we can other than stringing together killer passes in the final third and actually knowing where the goal is.

If Liverpool get the first goal then I reckon they'll win 2-0 or 3-0. If we get it then it'll be interesting to see if we change our style or try to hold on.

Hojlund needs to really sort his shit out. He's been awful again. Lads in my U14 rugby team are stronger than him.
Great assessment of the first half.

Not sure. We usually only do 1 good half. And since we’ve just had that…
Regardless at least it's not a thumping. If we can maintain the same momentum and hold it at a draw I think we'll all be happy. I'll be ecstatic if we can manage a win.

Yeah, specifically at 1v1s Alisson is probably the best in the world. At the same time, it was a really tame effort from a player with rock bottom confidence.
    Agree with you mate.
Like most of the team he’s totally devoid of confidence and it’s crucial for a striker unfortunately

A million times better than expected
    And peeps are still whinging.

Agreed. But I’ve see us follow halves like that with bed shitting performances that were that awful, it negated anything that happened in the first.

I’ll be delighted if we just apply the same level of effort and sense for the remaining 45. Some points would be an added bonus.

Excellent first half, should be ahead.More of the same please but a goal or two!

We need to sign a new, capable striker this month as a top priority. Everything else can wait until the summer.

Hard to agree to be honest - why did Hojlund not head for the near post for the Fernandes cross? He carried on behind the defender never once even looking like he would even think that getting in front of the defender might be what was best. He lacks that instinct, that killer movement and touch.
He never gets to that ball in time if he alters his run there.

Agree with Lu Tze. No relaxing, keep your concentration , Liverpool might panic
