Seeing Fred and McTominay, I can't help but wonder when did it become acceptable for a centre midfielder to only be useful in the defensive part of the game but lacking in the attacking bit?

Used to be that centre midfielders were the players who could do it all.
Usually we can get away with them playing safe as the lower teams don’t press us as well as liverpool do. They get shown up though against teams who can press properly

Some of our players are clearly shook by the occasion of the fixture. We just need to believe in ourselves and play our game. The scousers are there for the taking IMO. Marcus though, needs to check his runs better.
We do play our game, we play exactly how we set up to play. Defend, defend, defend and try catching them on counters. We can't keep possession with McTominay in midfield.

Bruno needs to cut this part out of his game otherwise we won't make the next level jump with him

Be brave Ole, Greenwood and Cavani for Marcus ‘offside’ Rashford and Anthony ‘missing’ Martial.
Then Donny for McTom on 60-70

Bruno has been really poor again. Our midfield generally has been awful. Only Shaw can take any credit from that half.

Im happy to be 0-0 at HT. The first 25 minutes or so looked dire we couldn't get a touch but we have grown in to the game. The attack is really out of sync though really feels like a weakness atm we can't fashion any sort of chance

Some of you on here must be new to football.
We are playing the champs at their ground and the champs are Liverpool.
Its a typical United/Pool game. Intense, scrappy, not many chances, everyone trying hard but inhibited by the importance of the game.
We are doing OK. Defending reasonably well, just need to create more and take the chance when it comes. As it will.

We just look so sloppy in possession as if we look so damn nervous when we do have the ball. Lost count how many times we’ve been caught offside.

Liverpool have dominated possession but then feck all with it. It’s a bit like watching LVG - pass, pass, pass and no end product.

Overall, it’s been a boring game to watch.

Well we grew into it slightly but Liverpool dominated us for 30 minutes.. Fred has been poor, constantly gives the ball away with his poor passing. Hes not the only one but he has been the worst culprit. Matic on for Fred if he doesnt improve by minute 55..

Fred hasn't give the ball away that often has he's hardly had it....got better has the game went on....

First 20 were awful but we've looked ok since. With a bit calmness on the ball we could have had much better openings.

It really annoys me when we get so obsessed with the counter that we forget to play and just give the ball away needlessly. Loving the authority on the ball shown by Pogba, Martial and Shaw. Their teams mates are playing like they're scared to hold the ball for more than 2 seconds.

Rashford reminds me of Inzaghi.... in the sense that he was born offside.

That first half an hour was revolting from our point of view. Utter garbage. The technical quality was just dog shite :( Credit to the comeback in the last 15 minutes and I think we look more like scoring.

Don't think United's defence gets as much credit as it should, although playing two DMs does help a lot. The game is very much there to be won.

Please please put rashford back to the left. This setup doesn’t make any sense

Ole made a mistake not playing Rashford on the wing and also playing Pogba on the right.

I'll be pissed if he doesn't rectify it at half time.

Does Rashford understand the concept of offside?
Shift him to the wing, sub off Martial, bring on Cavani and get Bruno on the ball more. He should be receiving the ball in areas where Pogba is receiving it.
Sub off player playing well to change player playing terrible to another position where he’s also often terrible? Where’s the logic?

We seemed to have weathered the storm somewhat. Some decent positions we failed to make the most of.

When you see the scousers crossing on sight it makes it incredibly frustrating when we get the ball wide only to play it back into midfield and eventually lose it. They've got no recognised CB - we should be pumping it in at every opportunity. Could be a game for cavani this

Pogba so strong when on the ball, he has to play in midfield. Ole needs some balls in the big games here, remove Mctom and put pob in there.

It's perfectly understandable that Rashford is constantly looking to get in behind them, but it needs to be applied with an inch of common sense. Our players don't have time to turn with the ball and look up before Rashford is already standing in an offside position. His timing has been a disaster, either we can't play the ball to him because he's offside or we play it to him and the whistle goes. Makes us even more isolated

Firmino's finishing is as bad as Rashford's offside judgement
I personally don't think we're playing 'badly' I just think this is the plan. It's basic, everyone knows we do it but I guess it works, draw them on and lump it to Rashy.

Bruno to be honest bottled that first half, no composure, panicking on the ball. Given the space In behind he should be a major threat, needs to show up in the second half.

He is clearly trying a pass, a thoughtless boot?
Second or third time he's tried some 1 in 10 pass though, with no thought about the ramifications of it failing.

It's part of his game I know and if he's making attacking input and some defensive support, you take it "in the round.

When they don't come off, he opens himself up to comment and whether another midfielder would be better .. they're not going to do some of the things he CAN do but their overall game may be better for today/the team

    Sky commentary is so shite.

Fred and McTominay need to show better composure. I think we need Matic on.

The lack of a proper holding player and someone who can keep the ball and dictate the tempo is really hurting us.

McT off, Pogba to midfield and Cavani on.

Pogba's defensive work has really impressed me the past few weeks. maybe we could use him there and buy another quality forward-thinking midfielder or winger. at the moment we go through so many games not offering another going forward and rely on a moment of brilliance
    Someone like DVDB...?

Scott awful, get Matic in for him. Absolutely scared of the ball and forward pass. Fred not much better mind. Also have no confidence in Lindelöf.

Thought Fred was worse. Two hospital passes and zero quality playing forward.

Being pragmatic we’re in a good position despite the poor performance so far.

What opportunities? I remember one from Firminho
If you had watched you would have seen eight attempts to our one. Firminho... in tame pass back shot to De Gea... two half chances where Firminho had a block shot followed by Salah shot blazed high over...Shaquiri shot from edge of box....and an Andy Robertson scuffed shot... just off the top of my head.

How do you work that out? Liverpool's intensity has dipped and we are starting to break on them. It's wide open.
We were wide open the whole half and they got into some good positions and one thing in this game more appaling than their finishing is our ball play. We can't keep it we can't transition it, even when we somehow do, our forwards are deep behind the line...

    P.S.
It's not that grim I always act like this in hope of reverse jinx
