    - Because we don't play five at the back and our results have been very good so far. Why try out five at the back in our biggest game of the season so far?

-It's a bad idea to go so defensive against Liverpool at Anfield and we have the personnel to play a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 comfortably.
We played 5 at the back away to CSKA a few weeks ago.

It'd make a change to the back 7 we went with at Anfield last season.

With Fellaini out, I think we can expect a 3-4-3 from Jose.

[Michael Owen]If we manage to keep a clean sheet here, we should have a good chance of winning.[/Michael Owen]

Always anxious about these games. I reckon you'll see Mourinho deploying the tactic we used against Chelsea, whereby we man-marked Hazard out of the game. I think we need to keep coutinho quiet in a similar manner and ensure their wings are shut down quickly.

If we starve Coutinho and their wing play, then it shouldn't be an issue. We can overpower them through the middle and in midfield.

Still not looking forward to this! At least you all have a small issue with your midfield. I just hope nothing happens to our players.
To be honest your team is shyte this season. What happened to Klopp? Came in with all sorts of funfair but guy cannot organise a defence in two years! LOL... sorry for laughing but maybe you should get Allardyce of Sean Dyche as your defensive coach LOL

this is one time I wish Mourinho should attack them- all their backline are an accident waiting to happen

Interesting reading the reaction following the news that Fellaini might miss the game.

I saw that he'd scored a few this season, but I assume he's been playing well as well judging from the posts in here?

Can't wait for this one, even though it won't be pretty. Think we'll win it by the odd goal.

    Martial - Lukaku - Mata
    Young - Matic - Herrera - Valencia
    Jones - Smalling - Bailly
    De Gea
I guess this is how we'll line up now without Pogba, Fellaini and Carrick (I think?). I'd rather have Rashford on the right because of the counter attacks, but I think Mourinho will continue with his tactics and introduce one of Rashford/Martial against a tired defence.

They are, but i'd be wary of going at them too much, if we leave any holes at the back, the pace of Salah and Mané will cost us dearly. Reckon it'll be a slow, tactical game and we'll just counter attack them.

Before Fellaini injury I predicted 3-5-2. One of the key points is to have a midfield trio. But now with all of Fellaini, Pogba and Carrick (fitness issue, lack of game time) likely to be out, I have no idea.

I think now Jose has two options with regards to the midfield

    1. Midfield trio by playing Carrick (if ready) or someone off position like Blind/Tuanzebe there, who knows, Jose has done it before @ other teams

    2. Midfield duo in a 3-4-3 like someone has suggested here. One bright spot is that we did well against CSKA

I think it's a close call. But I'm gonna go with 3-4-3, with both Matic and Herrera mainly tasked with defending/ball control instead of being more offensive, and wingers and wingbacks likely to help defending/combating the midfield, acting as the "3rd" midfielder. Also, wingbacks likely to drop deeper as compared to 3-5-2.

    ----------------Lukaku------------------
    ----Rashford---------------Mkhi--------
    Young----Matic----Herrera----Valencia
    -----Jones----Smalling----Bailly--------

Rashford, Mkhi and Martial are close call @ winger position. Not surprised to see Martial there. I would love to see both Rashford and Martial, and us playing 7-0-3 pure counter attacking !

This is the one but I never fancy our chances at that shithole

Honestly what planet are you from to think Mourinho is going to start Shaw in his first game all season at Anfield? and Young as a 10?

    The hell? Are you high?

Put Young at left-back and put Mhkitaryan in the no.10 and I think that's how we'll line up.

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Jones Darmian
    Matic Herrera

    or

    Young LB and Mata in.

I don't think Mou will start with that 11. It's just me wanting it. Shaw is our best leftback by a mile and has to start getting games soon and I don't think MkHitaryan has been very good lately while Young has

I don't see Mourinho going with 3 CBs.

Think he will have a go. We have Matic and Herrera in midfield. Two of the best there is.

And we have forward players who can destroy them.

To be fair he has played Jones in midfield for us already before. I would not be shocked if he does a job again.

Yeah young has been good...but he's not been playing in the no.10 position...he's been playing left-back.

Yep and before he played leftback he was a winger so how can he now play as a leftback?? He is versatile and can use both of his feet unlike some.... I'd like to see him in the team since he has performed well lately

Valencia used to be a right winger, now he's a right back. Young plays primarily as a left back for us, he was a LB against Everton, Southampton and Crystal Palace. It's only when we go 3 at the back, like against CSKA, that he moves up.

You've just said he's a winger but put him in the no.10 position...

*shrugs* I dunno man, but whatever you're smoking, I want some of it.

Similar to the Chelsea game in April. Have Herrera man mark Coutinho. Double LBs to cope with Salah. Hoof it towards Rom who wil set up Rash to run riot. Smash and grab.

how bad is Fellaini's injury? Is he really out or that's just fake news?

Wonder if he’ll maybe deploy Lindelof in midfield. He’s supposedly done it for Sweden and Benfica. Could be an option.
I was thinking it would be a 352 but with the midfield injuries maybe 343 would be best now.

Their defence is garbage, if there was 1 time that Jose should go away to a big game and scrap the defensive set up it is this week. We have taken teams apart all season (exception of Stoke) get out there, get at them and stuff them!

If we let them attack they will find something and leave the game with more than they deserve.

agreed- time to attack them at their base. An early goal would make them so nervous and their crowd would get at them... but conversely, the longer the game goes without a goal their crowd would be very nervous too because they know their defence is always one kick away from a calamity. I really think Klopp has lost his marbles; how could a so-called top class manager persist with the defence of Lovren and Matip, deputised by an aging and very slow Klavan? If I were Mourihno I'd really attack this lot- their right back is weak- put Martial or Rashford onto whomever plays there.... and test Moreno's temperament with anyone speedy or a dribbler at him all the time. He loses his mind very quickly and commits foul upon foul. A red card in waiting. And then their shyte midfield.... I will be surprised by anything but a United win unless Mournho messes up his team selection or gets his tactics wrong on the day, which I doubt

It really amazes me that they have not fixed their defence for years.

Their main issue now is that their midfield is not strong enough to cover their defensive liabilities like it has been previously.

If we only have Matic and Herrera fit then we'll probably sit deep for this one and look to hit them on the counter. They'll have the extra man in midfield so should control possession.

Jose might even go with last seasons set-up. Liverpool didn't look like scoring and this time we have Lukaku's pace and Mkhi and Rashford in much better form.

This could make sense formation wise. Although I don't think Coutinho needs man marking and Mane is back and a much more dangerous player than Salah.

I thought we could really hammer this lot until half our team got injured.

Very strangewhich is why I think Klopp will get sacked sooner if he doesn't get results because of his own stupidity. They last had a good defence under Benitez and that is a millenium ago

Is jones injured? Lukaku and Valencia? have any one got injured or only Fellaini?

Fecking internationals, at least Martial is rested for two weeks. Rashford getting almost a full week as well.

The most important thing now is Matic - all eyes on him. If he sustains an injury or niggle tonight, then because of Pogba, Fellaini and possibly Lukaku missing - United will comfortably be the underdog in this match. Funny how things changes over a week. Positive thing is that Coutinho and Firmino will travel and experience jetlag, no way of avoiding that

Monday morning - so far away from Saturday but this game is already the only thing on my mind which means this week it going to feel like a fortnight. Just want it to be Saturday morning! Don't remember ever being this confident ahead of a game at Anfield - which does scare me a bit. But overall, we're going into this game in great shape - couple of injuries aside. Really hope Jose goes for it from the off. If we managed to get a couple of goals in the first half an hour (which we're very capable of) I can't see any way back into it for them. It's just whether or not Jose will go for the quick start or keep it tight and cagey, hope it's the former because these cnuts really are there for the taking and how good would it be to destroy them on their own patch :devil:

Look. I just want Rash, Young and Martial behind Lukaku. I want pace to do LFC one. The three of them should be free to move and swap places with each other keeping the LFC defence busy.

    Any news about this?

I don't think we need to be OTT in worrying about their press, they are without Lallana who is most important for them in playing that way and overall they are not in form anyway. Defend well against Mane and Salah plus stop Coutinho from lining up shots from distance, then when wait for our chances to score the other end. We should be looking to get 3 points.
