    We are favourites. If the reason we're not is because anything can happen in football then nobody would ever be considered favourites.
    Our form guides are the mirror opposite of each other, we've lost 1 in the last 8 (?) meetings.
    This is a feck up if we lose, plain and simple.

    It's not Liverpool vs Everton...

    I can't even begin to understand how thick someone has to be in order to imagine that a loss against this Liverpool side is a fekk up.

    Thank god Mourinho won't underestimate these feckers like quite a few on here are doing

    @MThomas
    Thank God Jose would have higher standards than yourself.
    Or we could judge teams on historical reputation and feelings of "Im dreading this"

    I haven't said a word about historical reputation, so i'm not entirely sure why you feel the need to make such a claim. Stupid is stupid does, I imagine.

    Matches between Liverpool and United rarely reflect league position and current form.

    This match is tailor made for the 3 man Defence we've been practicing with two strikers up front with Rashford and Lukaku. The way Liverpool play with the central striker droping deep means that a 3 man CB pairing looks the way to go for me.

    It is not. We are playing Liverpool in Anfield. It is difficult for any team. A draw would be a decent result.

    They are going to be fired up like hell for it. Expecting us to win it easy is delusion.

    @Hugh
    I didn't say it would be easy though?

    I guess stupid is stupid does...

    I don't understand why Liverpool being "Up for it" worries people.
    So Lovern will decide he'll definitely become a better defender overnight? Will Henderson channel his inner Roy Keane? Salah promises to not be so wasteful in front of goal?
    When people talk like this they're saying Liverpool haven't been trying their very best to arrest this slide that they're on which clearly isn't true.
    We are clear favourites for this game.

    I think it's the atmosphere and pressure of the occasion that gets to United teams at Anfield. On form and team strength we should be beating this Liverpool side. But it's not going to happen!

    I think game raising ie people playing like their life depended on it during special occasions is hardly a new concept. It's not like they will be suddenly better players but the level of adrenaline, the robustness of the challenges etc goes up a notch vs major rivals and cup finals which makes a difference. It's just how football works.

    @ColvaleGoa
    If people are going by history then we have lost 5 times in the last 20 meetings and that includes 2 from the Moyes season outlier!
    Lost 1 in the last 8.
    This side know how to handle Liverpool.
    How could it not be a feck up If this struggling attack with no focal point can outscore us while we struggle against Laurel and Hardy at the other end?

    We haven't played an opponent outside the top 10 tbf.

    How does that affect the concept of having deadlier front line? Liverpool had 16 more shots yet scored 8 less goals in 7 games.

    We haven't played an opponent outside the top 10 tbf.

    Too early to talk about league positions. We played against Southampton and Everton who were in 7th and 8th last season. West Ham and Leicester were in 11th and 12th position.

    Season to too young to say we haven't played any top 10 teams.

    United has a better goalkeeper.
    United has a better defence.
    United has a better midfield.
    United has a better attack.
    United has a better bench.
    But in big games like this, attitude usually trumps almost every other factor.
    If United goes out there with a superior attitude or at the very least, match Liverpool's attitude, this should be United's game.

    You left out the most obvious area we are better in :)

    Anybody who thinks this game depends on how the teams have been playing prior to it is sadly mistaken. If Liverpool were top of the league and Man Utd were bottom I still wouldn't confidently predict the result. The one advantage Liverpool have is that its at home and I would say its the only advantage they have. The defence has been shite and there are a couple of injuries so United should win . Thats why I am going for a 2-1 win to Liverpool

    Better manager?

    Anger issues :lol: I love how we're just throwing out claims.

    In 2011/2012, that magical season where we finished level points with City, Liverpool finished 8th. They still battered us 3-1 at Anfield, 1-1 at Old Trafford and they knocked us out of the FA cup. League position and current form rarely matters.

    Our last 5 matches against them: 4 draws and one loss, Liverpools record vs top 6 under Klopp is miles better than ours under Mourinho so far, and they have an attacking lineup capable of causing our defense plenty of problems (which even a shit Everton side managed)

    For us it's the first difficult match of the season.

    @MThomas
    After a quick look Utd have lost 18 games from the last 60 v Liverpool since the start of the EPL.
    Its safe to say we've been the better team over that period so at what stage do we find it a struggle to get a result against an inferior side?
    If we discount actual cup matches with variables about team selections and priorities then it drops to 13 losses in 52 league games.
    Whats striking to me is 5 of those league losses came in a streaky 2 year and a bit period which means they have barely touched us during the other 23 years!
    Again its a quick look so a stat could be a number out either way. They're also skewed by the fact 2/3 of Liverpools wins came when they were the better side

    Liverpool will offer a very high tempo and that will be the real challenge. The teams we have played so far are not renowned for their pace.

    I expect that at least for 1/3 of the game United will be under the cosh, especially if Pogba isn't there to help out with possession. Those who think that we are going to dominate the game from start to finsih will be disappointed, IMO. There seems to be too much optimism in this thread. Or maybe realism with hindsight?

    I think that's exactly how it will go down. They will be pressing and attacking like madmen in the first half. We will need to stay strong, and hit them once they get tired. They always do. I hope Jose does his homework on this lot. I wouldn't be disappointed if we got a draw out of this. Nothing hurts more than losing to the scousers.

    Very much on point.

    Games like this can sway either way. Liverpool can easily turn on their game of the season. Give us mega problems.

    One thing is sure though, this United team has been difficult to beat since last season. Now they have added attacking threats.

    You're a bit mixed up there. In 11/12 we drew 1-1 at Anfield (the Suarez/Evra game), and beat them 2-1 at Old Trafford. They beat us 3-1 the season before, when we won the league (with them 6th) and beat them 3-2 at Old Trafford (Berbatov's hat trick).

    And in our last 5 matches we have both had 1 win (1-0 win in the League under LVG, 0-2 in the Europa), and three draws (both games last year and the Europa return leg). Your points are still valid though.

    I am dreading this one. I think it's basically only the Anfield factor we have going for us, going into the game. Hope it'll be enough. Our league challenge is basically a wash if we lose this one.

    Think it'll be a frustrating draw where both set of fans leave the game thinking they should have won it.

    I long for the days when we would go into these games with the opposition worrying about having to adapt their games to deal with us!
    Very long time ago. Ferguson was happy to play for a draw at Anfield more often than not at least since the Evans days.

    It's very interesting when it's put like that, because compared to other teams our team looks very diverse. We have players that suit possession football, counter attack, crossing... any philosophy you can think of. The only team that comes close to us is Chelsea and it's not a suprise since Jose was their manager.

    I also feel that it's one of the reason why it's difficult to see our game plan especially for fans of our rivals. They look at our team and they can't tell which philosophy our team fits. When you look at city and liverpool you can tell how they are going to set up, so it's easier to say they are more of a threat or they have better players, because all of them fit into that system.

    Looking at our team the whole team is rock solid, there's no weakness because every player fits into a particular system we want to adopt because Jose isn't limited to one philosophy like other managers.

    I don't remember who said this, but the person said that you never know which Jose team is going to show up, imagine being an opposition manager having to prepare to play United, where do you even start? If you are lucky to figure out how we will play then we can simply change during half time and play differently and catch you off guard. That in itself is our main strength and the reason why Jose is very successful and will never be found out.

    I'm not sure about the no weaknesses bit, but I agree with most of your remaining post. We have lots of weaknesses which will be exposed and fixed during the season. For e.g. Stoke exploited the fact that (1) our CMs don't press when the opposing team is passing towards the wings, and (2) our left backs are not in quick enough to deal with a cross field ball in behind them. After Stoke, Jose is tried to fix it with Ashley Young (who has the pace to deal with those kind of balls), and Matic takes a angled/ cross body position to block that pass.

    I digress, but my point is that we haven't seen some other weaknesses yet, and Liverpool is one of those teams and Klopp is one of those mangers (despite what the media is saying) who can identify these weaknesses and exploit it. Which is why this will be a brilliant tactical match up also.

    Gutted, I'm gonna completely miss this!
    I'll be between Johannesburg airport and my game lodge in Kruger. I'll be arriving, showering, buying a bunch of ice cold beers and checking the score anxiously!

    Not sure which version of Liverpool will turn up, and so cannot call this game. We've had a very weird season so far.

    Excuse me, your what? :wenger:
    You have no chance of winning the league if you meant that.

    You obviously have a good chance of winning v us. History shows that the better team/more in form team, often comes unstuck in this fixture.
    Long term still getting top 4 won't be ruined whatever happens In this game.

    Milner, Hendo, Ox will all start and produce their most committed, best form ever seen. That will be a guarantee.

    I would take a draw and be pleased enough.
