Let's be honest, at the moment we are in a pretty good place whilst they are not particularly (pretty much a reversal of the scenario when the two teams met at Anfield last year). However, far worse Liverpool teams have turned over better United teams than this one. Nothing is guaranteed, generally a point would be ok there but not with city's current form.

I actually prefer playing them when we arent in good form, we always seem to get a result when we go their in shit form.

Raising the game for these games no doubt. Just being able to play on pure emotions can sometimes work better when you are in poor form. In these games the normal expectations and league tables goes out of the window for a few hours. It is all about these games and that can be fantastic when you are in poor form. Liverpool will enjoy this game. Hope we can go out and fight in it as well.

Although that LVG win with Rooney winner after Fellaini header was pure luck from us. We played so poor and Liverpool could have scored a lot of goals in that game.

Once Mourinho has the team playing the way he wants it is near impossible to win; he is a specialist in turning the game to shite.

I expect a repeat of the game last year at Anfield; except we will nick a goal because Lukaku is more clinical than Ibra. If that goal is early it could get ugly for Liverpool but I think thats unlikely.

If the players back safe from the internationals hopefully with out injuries and are fit then we can win because things are obvious we are the better side now, so hopefully Jose play to win and treat the game like any other and go for the three points right from the start.

You're right. Liverpool has a way of turning it up when they meet United, regardless of how poor their form might be.

About City, I really don't want to take anything away from them because they are playing fabulously well at the moment but a little perspective to their big wins. Against Liverpool, the reality is that we don't know how that game would have gone if Mane did not get a red card. That for me, was the key turning point.

Against Chelsea, Morata's injury also served them pretty well. Before that injury, even though City had a slight upper hand, Chelsea was still very much comfortable.

But credit to them regardless. Just wondering what without the breaks.

By scoring as many goals as United or more?

How did Stoke stop United? As bad as Liverpool look now, they are way more potent in attack than Stoke. If they score first, they may be happy to press us only in their half and counter with some of the paciest forwards in the league. Jose won't underestimate them, all the more because Pogba will probably miss the game.
Stoke stopped United because they completely sat back and didn't attack, which took Mourinho by surprise, cause he had dropped Mata to go 4-3-3, his more defensive formation. Not seeing Liverpool doing that, honestly. Klopp might have a trick on his sleeve (in general, he has a history of tactically outshining Mourinho in the head to head), but he'll go for it.

For those who say we can't start Young at LB as he's not good defensively, he started during that 0-0 at Anfield last season and against Chelsea at OT, when he had defensive duties as well. And in both games his defensive work was quite good.
Young had defensive duties at Anfield last season, you're right about that, but… as a winger. Not the same to play him directly against Salah as fullback.

What worries me is if Moreno bombs forward and leaves space in behind. When Lovren gets pulled into that wide area to cover, he struggles more than he normally does.

We need to get the first goal in this. If United score first I struggle to see us getting anything.

Completely agree! We also cannot afford to have 10+ chances and not score a single goal.

Klopp should start with maybe Can and Gini in front of the back 4, with Mane on the left, Coutinho center as AM, and Salah on the right.

But that's probably not going to happen :)

Stoke stopped United because Bailly and Jones had the worst day of their season..Two bad errors, two goals conceded. Minus those, United would have taken three points in that game.

Van Gaal was one man who knew how to beat Liverpool. The 3-1 away win was such a great game. Our league record against Liverpool has been pretty solid, hasn't it? We drew both last year. We did the double over them twice under LVG. So, we have won 4 and drawn 2 in the last 6 league games. Our only loss to them was in the Europa league.

This is a genuinely shite Liverpool side, let’s not beat around the bush.

It’s like a second rate Keven Keegan side and as such we should be going there completely confident that we will beat them.

I feel like we have to win this with City’s current form (though that is obviously not true). We should genuinely win the game though, but I expect Liverpool to do well. I think they topped the internal top 6 table last season.

You would take a point at Anfield, it's not an easy place to get all three. We are playing well but this game can be unpredictable. This is not the game that will determine our season. People going on about having to keep up with city is short sighted, so far to go. City will drop more points this year as will we, they were lucky against Bournemouth and dropped points against Everton. Point is, so much football to play. I think if we score first United will get at least a point. Liverpool are so bad at the back, I can't see us not scoring. My worry is that we play matic and Fellaini in the middle. We need Herrera for this game, a bit of energy mixed with the steel of Matic. We'll see but we have reason to be confident going forward, I just hope we don't park the bus and hope for a counter. We need to break up play in the final third and stretch them with Rashford at the back. Need to be more positive and keep the ball in this game if we hope to get all three points.

Errors happen in almost every game, there were mistakes vs Everton and Soton as well but they could not capitalise on them. Our first goal vs Stoke was lucky too. So, the result wasn't only about rare defensive mistakes, it wasn't a very good performance overall. Which is normal because no team can be great in every game. City, for nstance, were quite shit vs Bournemouth. Football is a great game because it is not easy to predict.

We will have to disagree on this my friend. What I saw was United playing better in that game even though, admittedly, they were not at their best. And the two defensive errors were decisive. That errors happen in every game does not change this reality. Moreover, it is not in every game that Phil Jones slips when going for an aerial ball. It is no coincidence that the only game we have drawn this season is the one in which our two outstanding center backs had their worst games in the campaign.

Nah, a draw would still be two points dropped considering how the league is starting to play out with City's form. Also, this Liverpool side is terrible - match/counter their "passion" and we should do 'em.

In theory this is the worst game for Mkhitaryan to be playing in. He's going to get pressed a lot. I think they will encourage us to give him the ball in certain areas, at which point they will force him to turn over the ball.
We will play a 4-3-3 with Fellaini behind the striker and Mkhi on the right wing. Matic and Herrera as the other CM's.

We know Jose prefers to setup to stifle his opponents and he will use the long ball to beat the press.

It depends on how we set up really. I think he'll do well since he'll have a lot of space to attack when we counter.

Young should definitely start LB. He's the fastest of our Left backs, his delivery has been superb this season and he's the on form player. We need a pacy defence for Mane and Salah.

This is the least worried i have been about a United vs Liverpool game since Fergie left. Liverpool's defence seems extremely vulnerable. can see our pace and power being far to much. I think we will win by a couple of goals. Out of all the top Six sides, Liverpool is the one we are most equipped to deal with in my opinion

It's pretty much going to be a cagey affair, Mourinho will definitely have us sit deep and look for counter attacks, Klopp is also a bit under pressure so he wouldn't want to risk too much either.

I never can call this fixture, it could be 4-0 to Liverpool or 4-0 to United or anywhere inbetween.

One minute I'll really fancy us to win there, in the next minute I'll feel the complete opposite.... :wenger:

Well last season at our home, we were in a good run of form and they were in a pretty bad spell, we were expected to win handily I think, they even had a last minute injury and Alexander Arnot debuted I think, we ended up drawing the match with the help of an offside goal, so I'm not that confident we will win, I'm expecting at least a draw.

Just realized I will be in Zemun/Belgrade during this game and next one. Any advice of a good bar/pub to watch the game from our Serbian friends? Hopefully with United fans around. Don't want to listen "5 times, la" or "our year" or "Klopp is better than Jose".

This lot are there for the taking, really hope we go for the jugular but knowing Jose we'll set up as if we're Burnley or West Brom...

Yeah I would like to win too but this is one of our fiercest rivals. As I said, we will both drop points. It matters how we do head to head with City and are our home games. People need to get a grip and be realistic, it's a marathon not a sprint. Who ever is ahead at the end of October isn't going to win the league. We need to win away against some of the big teams like Spurs, Arsenal, City or Chelsea but a draw here our there won't define if we win the league. We aren't getting maximum points from all the games. It's about not slipping up at home and beating the lesser teams. Years of watching United win the league under Fergie has shown us this.

I hope we turn them over properly.

They've somehow managed to get under my skin more now that we're looking decent than when we're struggling in past seasons.

    1. It's United, we'll up our game considerably for this. Anyone who doesn't needs binning off permanently.
    2. Klopp is tactically much better versus top teams with more open, attacking, games. I really doubt United will play the same style as last season, sitting deep and relying on breaks, so we'll get chances even though I expect them to dominate possession (thereby negating the possibility of overly defensive tactics).
    3. There won't be anywhere near as much space between our midfield and defence as in most of our matches. I'm praying that helps tighten the defence otherwise it's going to be a miserable day.
    4. United haven't played any other Top 6 team yet. It's not easy to judge exactly where they are at, especially without Pogba, although obviously they have improved from last season.
    5. We're due some real luck for a change and the odds must be improving on us actually hitting the target.

Maybe 2-2 but anything can happen in these matches. Nobody thought we'd beat Arsenal 4-0 or lose 5-0 to City.

I’m not confident at all, think we’ll lose. Pogba is injured, Jones, Martial and Lukaku aren’t fit, and Liverpool always raise their game for us, moreso than we do for them at any rate. Hopefully Jose can produce a masterclass for this, think we’ll need it. They’ll press us and batter us all game, it’s going to take a huge amount of discipline and concentration for 90 minutes if we’re to get anything out of it.

I'm dreading this one. Usually I'll not be massively worried before a big game, but the fact Liverpool are woeful at putting away chances lately and United are clinical, it could be a close game that ends 5-0 to United.

A mix of an impotent attack and shambolic defense doesn't bode well when playing your rivals who are on fire and have the best keeper in the league, possibly the world.

I won't be watching this, that much I do know. Too stressful watching them play lately, or in my case anger inducing when someone inevitably drops a clanger.

I don't understand why Liverpool being "Up for it" worries people.
So Lovern will decide he'll definitely become a better defender overnight? Will Henderson channel his inner Roy Keane? Salah promises to not be so wasteful in front of goal?
When people talk like this they're saying Liverpool haven't been trying their very best to arrest this slide that they're on which clearly isn't true.
We are clear favourites for this game.

We are in no way "clear" favorites for this game and the bookies have Liverpool at the lower odds. Not that odds means everything, but this early it's a good indication. It's close, it's 50/50 - certainly none of the teams are clear favorites. Can be decided by a red card, especially if it happens early. You know Mourinho, he will make this a cynical affair no matter if Liverpool are 15th or 1st - aggression will be higher for both teams. Liverpool might be there for the taking given their defensive woes, but in no way will Mourinho go attacking with wingers and full-backs like it's Basel at home - it will be strict defensively, counters and hoping to solve the puzzle by getting a goal.

I think one of the teams will get an early goal, and the other team will chase the game getting a goal at the end. Typical derby decided in the end with a fluke due to sustained pressure. A bit like the 1-1 at Old Trafford last year.

We are favourites. If the reason we're not is because anything can happen in football then nobody would ever be considered favourites.
Our form guides are the mirror opposite of each other, we've lost 1 in the last 8 (?) meetings.
This is a feck up if we lose, plain and simple.

They have a shocking defence. We should take them....Have some faith lads.
