It’s early days and I’m trying to tell myself to remain patient but that was awful stuff. Not hugely convinced by this back three but it’s too early to fully judge. We just didn’t have any idea how to play through the press which ironically I thought we’d been much better at generally this season under ETH and Ruud. So that’s a huge negative so far! Aside from that no surprise that some our existing issues remain with these players. Rashford is largely finished, Evans is shite, Erikson and Casa cannot work together as a duo. I’m not convinced Amad is a wingback either despite his brilliant assist.

Disjointed which is to be expected, you can see some of his system he wants to play but in 6 days it looks what we thought it would be.

Ipswich looked more drilled, more intensity, fortunate with the goal.

Gives him a good idea of what away premier league games are like. Massive learning experience, but he gives me the vibes he will adjust as needed

Not when you change the formation and put 3 senior citizens in the team. I expect a better last 30 minutes of the game.
There is never an easy 3 points. I still think we created enough situations to be ahead but we’ll see how the players adapt now

    1. Amad and Onana our best players. Literally everyone else is fast asleep.
    2. We for sure need legs in midfield and in the two outside CB positions (RCB and LCB). Martinez, Maguire and Evans absolutely will get roasted regularly in those positions because they have no legs. Its where Ipswich has had the most joy in the first half too. Hutchinson vs Evans. Needs to be Yoro, Maz/Dalot, Lindelof and Shaw out there. The rest of the CBs can compete for the Central CB spot.

Realistically we want Shaw, Ugarte, Mainoo and Mount on for Evans, Cas, Eriksen and Garnacho. Maybe Hojlund for Rash. Well a mixture of those subs

Put Fergie, Ancelotti and Guardiola on the sidelines and they couldn't do anything with a pair of fecking geriatrics in midfield in the land of ultra-pressing high octane Premier League.

Good half. Ipswich deserve credit. We can win this: we can lose it. Their goal was a bit lucky. Eriksen playing well. We need Ugarte in there. Rashers off, Hojlund on? Great saves by Onana
Eriksen playing well? I must of watched a different game

There’s going to be overreactions from a lot of the teenage caf and those who grew up without a parent.

To me, I can already see a way of playing. I can see a lot of players trying to abide by Amorim’s principle of not giving away possession for free. They struggle sometimes when moving forward because they’ve been so used to the cocaine-addled “pass as fast as you can in transition” policy of Ten Hag. Decent half.

As for some of the lightweights I know will leave next summer: Casemiro, Eriksen. Both no longer have the engine needed to be in that midfield. Evans too unfortunately because he’s too old and slow. Dalot needs to ask himself why he’s not injured at all for most of his career. Because he’s too old NEVER truly gets stuck in is why.

The goal was a fluke. Apart from that - decent 1st half.

Garnacho and Bruno should be helping the central midfield more. Eriksen and Casemiro are outnumbered, and they will often be that in this formation, if they do not get the right support.

The two wide center backs have struggled and we still have no midfield. Some players still looking lazy, like it takes a second before their brain kicks in and they realize they need to track. Not a lot has changed to be honest. Amorim has a lot to do to get this lot to be a team.

I was going to make a joke when people were complaining that the training video would give away our tactics that it would only matter for the first 15 minutes because we'd stop following the instructions then anyway...

Well our problems are as apparent as ever. Casemiro, Eriksen and Evans have been a yard off pace all game and none of our attackers can play with their backs to goal. We know Amorim knows this but his options are limited for this game.

If any of our bench midfielders are fit enough for a half they need to come on. Ipswich will keep getting chances and we can't rely on Onana wonder saves. I'm not going to panic if this ends up in a loss but we really need the win here.

It’s going to take a while for the new system to be implemented properly. Too many old/lazy players at this club.

Rashford done absolutely nothing upfront! Got served that goal, a blind man with no legs would score that.

Casemiro and Eriksen doesn't work as a duo I'm this system (who'd knew). Evans as well not that great in this system. Dalot continues his bad form and Garnacho being Garnacho, selfish and running with head down. Bruno not involved enough.

Good goal, then we went flat, then we were poor. Back to ambling around at a snails pace. Interesting to see what the manager makes of it.

Fine with the formation, it's created some decent opportunities for us and I think we can get more joy from wide areas.

Midfield duo has been static, and the attackers haven't really offered them many passing options with runs. Bruno struggled to get involved. Don't ever recall seeing the boys press. They don't seem to be arsed about impressing the new boss…

We have a lot of bench options, definitely time to start using them.
Think you can't expect too much of them yet. Some people will shine in new roles/setups, some probably surprisingly so. But the whole XI won't surprisingly bring a consistency and synchronization that hasn't been here since... around the Barcelona-game in the Europa League 22-23? The Ole-new-manager or post-covid runs? Even longer ago?

If Amorim is a good match with the squad, or the near future adaptation of it, this will still take some time. Maybe this season, but it's all too new to know how this all will play out. But this game and the next 10 or so will probably have plenty moments of confusion. If we're lucky they won't lose us (too many) games, and then hopefully the changes will suit the players so well that the profit is there.

Dalot giving the ball away every time is so frustrating, nearly as much as Rashford walking around.

I don't understand how it's possible for supposedly elite footballers to be so poor at keeping the ball. Really, really bad.

All of our issues today stem from how deep we are to cover for the lack of pace in our back line and inability to pass through the lines.

Personally I would swap Eriksen and Garnacho out. I don’t think Garnacho is suited to his role today. If Ugarte or Mainoo is fit enough, I’d have them come in for Eriksen and I’d either bring on Antony and shift Amad into Gsrnacho’s role or bring on Mount for Garnacho.

Otherwise, not much of a surprise it looks an alien system to them. We are really struggling passing out from the back and everyone is having to drop deeper.

Shaw or Martinez for Evan’s really helps this system, because you get those passes through the press. But neither is really an option today.

Feel the defence needs shifting about. De Ligt’s aggression is wasted as the middle cb, it should be Evans who has struggled with the pressing high task and is getting turned too easily, and Maz should be the lwb instead of Dalot so we can actually use that flank instead of booting it infield all game.

Maz - Dalot - Evans - De Ligt - Amad would work better imo. But tbf the whole team has been piss poor all half.

Midfield is struggling in and out of possession. Need to switch out at least one of them.

Rashford with his walking and jogging routine by the middle of the first half. Nothing can change a rotten apple. Sooner Ruben realises it, better it is for him and us.

We need not just technically better players but players who will fight for the cause. Rashford is the last one in the squad for that.

Amazing start, but then the game fell flat. So good by Amad for that goal though.

The goal for Ipswich felt like it was coming and the drop off in performance from us was disappointing. Hopefully h can make some changes and get them playing again in the second half.

Appreciate Amorim going with his back 3 formation.

Hopefully he keeps faith regardless of the shocking performances he'll see from these players
