I know next to nothing about them, but the whole tie is giving me Bilbao flashbacks which is never a good thing.

On-par technically! FFS! Just because they're Spanish.
We arent that good technically ( bar Pogba, Herrera and presumably Martial if he plays) and I have watched Celta lots of times this season, they can go toe to toe with very good teams on their day. And yeah, Spanish teams are generally much better technically than English teams. Reason why they have dominated the English so many years consecutively.

    Typical.

We are playing Celta Vigo you know, they really aren't the big bad wolf you are making out, so talk of 'staying in the tie', and 'limit then to two' is a little over the top, I'm not saying it'll be all plain sailing, but we really should be getting through this fairly comfortably.

Agreed, though we still need to be on our toes because of the suspensions and Celta resting key players (full first team).

Quietly confident for this now so many players are back from injury.

    De Gea
    Jones Bailly Blind
    Valencia Pogba Herrera Young
    Mata Martial MkhiT
    1-0 to us.

Okay everything is perfect, we will win 6-0 just like we have proven we do week in and week out. There does that make you happier.

But we got Pogba, Jones, Smalling, Bailley and probably Mata back. The only first teamers that we truely miss are Rojo and Ibra.

I'm feeling a lot more postive having these players back.

Feeling quietly confident about this one. I have in the back of my mind that the players will finally wake up and put in a strong performance, but our past results in the KO stages suggests it could be another nervy night. Thank God for Jose!

    Think we will play...

    Romero
    Valencia - Bailly - Blind - Darmian
    Pogba - Fellaini
    Mata - Mkhitaryan - Lingard
    Martial

Feeling confident with the players that are back from injuries for this one. Bring back at least the away goal advantage.

Revising my predicted score to 2-1 to Celta Vigo, rather than 2-0 as earlier predicted.

I see the game going like this, in summary.

They come out like bats out of hell, catch us cold, someone makes a howling blunder like getting caught in possession on the edge of our box, 1-0 after about 5-10 mins.

They continue pressing the faeces out of us and have a few good chances, we look proper shellshocked and they score a second before half-time.

Second half, they're running on fumes a bit and we come back into the game, start bossing it and grab a goal back - probably Mkhitaryan.

The tie goes to OT with everything in the balance.

They wont score tonight. It's whether we can score or not - which we will.

Can't believe the score last night. It won't be easy, but we really should be winning this competition.

That said I really think this is a difficult tie.

Young Ander in his Celta gear.

His dad was sporting director there at the time.

We'll need to put Fellaini or someone else good in the air on Aspas for set ball situations and corners, that boy can head a ball.

I think Jose with his comments about the league now being 2nd fiddle is showing the players how important this game is.

Usually we don't seem to take this competition seriously, but now it's time to knuckle down and treat this properly.

If we turn up like we did against Chelsea, no chance will they beat us. If we turn up like we did against Swansea, I do worry a bit.

Individually their players are nothing we shouldn't be able to handle, but we know that motivation plays a huge part in matches like this. If we aren't at our game 100% then Celta could really damage us. We need to get out of this game with a decent scoreline, definitely need that away goal. Hope we can nick the first goal then sit back and counter.

Should be a nice 18 degrees centigrade weather. Perfect for the players.

Doesn't feel like the buildup to a Euro semi final. This season has been too long.

Biggest game of the season. If you can't get passed sides like Celta Vigo in Europa League. You simply don't belong in the Champions League.

In the Champions League we'll be up against similar level teams eg Ajax, Celta Vigo in group stage.

We need to be getting passed them, not doing so means we don't belong here and we don't deserve to be.

The boost of players returning should be an advantage to us, Mata and Pogba are fresh with Bailly strengthening the defense. Fellaini is rested as well as Mikhi.

We should have a good game. Just take a score draw and I'll be happy with this.

    Think we will play...

    Romero
    Valencia - Bailly - Blind - Darmian
    Pogba - Fellaini
    Mata - Mkhitaryan - Lingard
    Martial

I'd prefer Blind at left-back over Darmian, otherwise that's a pretty good team.

I like the message Jose is putting across to the players, the Europa must take priority at this point. Huge game and the players must be aware of that fact.

Not sure if JM will throw Mata straight back in or maybe opt for Lingard/Martial instead. Can't see Jones or Smalling in from the start either, both might play at Arsenal though. Would rather see Carrick in over Fellaini but I doubt that with the big guy suspended for Sunday, although the selection I pondered over the most when doing my lineup prediction was who will start in goal.
    A few points to ponder.

Don't want to see Fellaini in DMF alone again please and beside Pogba too, it'll be a disaster.

Doesn't feel like the buildup to a Euro semi final. This season has been too long.
I think maybe that's because of the way the EL is often seen as a very poor relation of the CL. Not that I see it that way, it's a European trophy and also United have never won it. Plus the CL qualification obviously.
I think the way the CL is portrayed by the media as the be all and end all of European club football with all the coverage/riches etc. means some people end up thinking the EL is Mickey Mouse etc. It's still a European trophy. I was ecstatic when United won the 1991 CWC and will be again if they win the EL this season. The biggest point is really the CL qualification as United are struggling to finish top 4, but I don't get a lot of the negativity that surrounds the EL at times - not on this forum obviously, just in general. It's also in United's case something that can be used as a springboard for future success, seeing United back at the top of the EPL and challenging in the CL is the goal. Another season of no CL football will also likely have an effect on transfer targets this summer.

He has struggled sometimes against teams who play with pace in the past.
hardly. it's a myth. He is quite smart about his positioning and also knowing well to tackle or intercept. You don't always have to be fast to deal with pace, once you can read the game. I remember every time he came up against a fast winger or a physical striker the Caf was of the opinion that he would struggle because of obvious reasons and yet he never did.
