Yeah you're right.Watching it back this morning, Everton looked far the better side in the first half. Brighton scored out of nowhere and the game was still pretty even after that. Having seen the scoreline going in I was expecting a mauling.

Benchmark game against a resurgent Brighton, who have been consistently outplaying United for some time, and their tails will be high after splattering Everton last week as guests
We literally won there not even 3 months ago and they didn't give Everton a "splattering" 2 terrible lapses in marking/positioning (no one marking Mitoma on their 1st goal and Pickford caught on the edge of the 6 yard box on the 2nd) by Everton and the 3rd goal didn't come until they had been playing 20 minutes up 1 man.
I'm less worried about that matchup than I am worried about how Martinez and Maguire are gonna face down the remaining seven outfield players. It's going to be very interesting watching Mazraoui and Dalot against Mitoma, Pedro and Minteh
Maguire must start.....of course De Ligt is a much better player than him....but Maguire was our best player against Fulham in my opinion therefore to bench him would be wrong.
I get the sentiment but I'm not a fan of this approach. It's like you're almost waiting for them to put in a bad performance so you can drop them, rather than being proactive. I remember Ten Hag doing that with Mctominay 2 years ago, and it culminated in City putting 6 past us at the Etihad.Very good point. Ferguson was always adamant on keeping a winning thing. You have to earn your place back. That will drive players behind the scenes to keep up a very high standard. No position on the team should be guaranteed for a player. There's exceptions, if you're a prime Ronaldo or Messi.
We haven't conceded 6 goals against them because of McTominay.....Ten Hag's line-up was wrong and our players were scared after only few seconds.I get the sentiment but I'm not a fan of this approach. Thought of that as well. He might not be in the right frame of mind. Not sure Amad will start this given he's just lost his mum.
Has he travelled with the squad?Thought of that as well. He might not be in the right frame of mind.
Believe he did. He posted about his mum 6hrs agoHas he travelled with the squad?
If this was Southampton at Old Trafford then I'd totally agree with you, but Brighton have carved our defence open more than once over the last couple of years, so I'm wary about starting someone as slow as Maguire vs their tricky forwards. You don’t drop your best player from the last match (if fit), especially when the one who is being suggested to replace him came on and made at least one fairly rash decision that I can recall in the 10 minutes he was on. All 4 of our CBs will get plenty of chances this season and, over time, I’m sure ETH will favour De Ligt/Martinez but there’s no need to rush to bring someone in who is still acclimatising to the squad/league.
He may not be world class but how many world class CBs in the world is there that are available? He is definitely an upgrade for our starting 11. And you're right, he has very little minutes under his belt. I think Ten Hag can get the best out of him and I think Bayern willing to sell him wasn't to do with his ability, I think maybe he didn't suit Kompany's style of play and maybe they wanted to offload him because of his high wages. It could be either or both factors. It could also be he was very willing to join us.We haven't conceded 6 goals against them because of McTominay.....Ten Hag's line-up was wrong and our players were scared after only few seconds.
And i understand your point too but @Garnacho Libre has said that.....De Ligt isn't world-class that he can easily replace Maguire.
De Ligt has played just 10 minutes of proper football since May (0 minutes for the Netherlands at the Euros and 0 minutes in pre-season for Bayern Munich)....if he starts and makes a big mistake tomorrow (He had a little bad situation against Fulham) then i will avoid his performance-thread.
This is the last 6 meetings, per SportsMole. Not feeling optimistic. Someone here said we had lost 4 out of 5 or thereabouts at their ground.
They usually tend to pin us back and we struggle to cope with how well they move the ball. Would love to see us match them this time.
Kompany wanted to keep De Ligt, he liked him the most out of his cb‘s. The move was pushed through by the board. He may not be world class but how many world class CBs in the world is there that are available? He is definitely an upgrade for our starting 11. I think Ten Hag will and should start Maguire tomorrow because it needs to be clear to every player, you have to earn your place.
Ah my bad. I'd say they were probably trying to get him off the wage bill then.Kompany wanted to keep De Ligt, he liked him the most out of his cb‘s. The move was pushed through by the board.
That‘s what I think. The bit about Kompany came out a few days ago.Ah my bad. I'd say they were probably trying to get him off the wage bill then.
A lot of people and pundits talking bollocks about our chances in this match. Would love to smash them and prove everyone wrong
Ye they have such a good style of play aswell so I wonder if ETH goes for more of a counter attacking style today. We know Brighton will play an high line. This will probably be an end to end game. Brighton worry me though as their one of them teams that when they’re at their best they can tear you apart. Our record against them isn’t that good. This is the last 6 meetings, per SportsMole.

I don't think it's going to be an easy game. It's going to be interesting how United's improved style of play works against them. We were unlucky against City in Community shield and it worked in FA Cup final and mainly controlled the Fulham game. This game is under different circumstances and most fans are more optimistic because there is more to be optimistic about.
Doubt we’ll smash them. we should be winning though of course as we are the better team but they’ll have the home advantage and will be well up for it after their 3-0 win last week. First home game of the season for a new manager as well. Will be a very tough game but hopefully we come out on top. I’d take a 1-0.One quality of winners is courage and self belief to absurd levels, if we aren't thinking of smashing Brighton this early in the season. We should as well pack our bags and go home.
Let's not kid ourselves, we'll have the better 11 and the better bench, we are Manchester f**cking United. It's should be all or nothing.
Yeah I'd consider eking out a result (win) as significant as 'smashing them'. We utterly failed at doing that last season, drawing and losing too often. That was positive from the opening day and how to see it continue.Doubt we’ll smash them. we should be winning though of course as we are the better team but they’ll have the home advantage and will be well up for it after their 3-0 win last week. If we get the first goal then we probably win the game. We can afford to sit back or try to control the game as they’ll have to come out and attack more which will leave spaces for us to hopefully punish them. We need to start being more clinical, it’s gonna end up costing us. Luckily clarified as not his mum but someone close.Believe he did. He posted about his mum 6hrs ago

None of the pundits seem to acknowledge just how badly our squad was decimated by injuries last season. Whenever we get mentioned in conversations for top 4, the go-to response is "they finished 8th last season". Like we didn't finish 3rd the season before that. It's so weird. From what I've seen most people are completely dismissing us this season. Most podcasts barely discussed our match against Fulham. Some podcasts I listened to barely previewed our match against Brighton. The Athletics tactics podcast didn't even discuss us. It's like everybody expects us to finish 6/7/8 ... That's it.
