Can't wait to get stuck into these. I'm having withdrawals already and it's only the first week of the season. Roll on the Europa starting so I can get my midweek fix.

Hoping we get an early goal and the defence does the business until Zirkzee comes on to kill the game off. Be nice to get a run started before slaying the dippers next weekend.

Same starting XI as last week. Been mixed results for us at the Amex since Brighton got up. Reckon it will be a tight win for us: 2-1 (Maguire, Garnacho).

    United 3-1 Brighton

Rashford, Bruno and Garnacho - Joao Pedro

I want to have enough belief to say we’ll win but it’s too early to say we’ve genuinely improved. This one is 50/50 IMO as we also don’t yet know how Brighton have developed since RDZ.

Reckon we’ll still play chaos ball either way.

Brighton, as of yesterday, are the fourth highest spenders in Europe this transfer window, so far. They are linked with other players and doesn't look like their done. Normally they sell players but this year they are spending big!

I think a United win but I don't think it's going to be a hammering. I expect a tough enough game and don't think there will be any more than a goal or two in the difference. Would love to see Rashford grab a goal. His first game was average performance, which is progress from some awful performances last year. A goal could do him wonders!

I am looking forward to seeing our new players play. First time in a good couple seasons where I'm buzzing to watch new signings.

Maguire must start.....of course De Ligt is a much better player than him....but Maguire was our best player against Fulham in my opinion therefore to bench him would be wrong.

Same team as the Fulham game.. . Zirkzee on bench .. or maybe DL to start if Maguire is carrying a knock? .. this is an Away game we need to win ..

Very good point. Ferguson was always adamant on keeping a winning thing. You have to earn your place back. That will drive players behind the scenes to keep up a very high standard. No position on the team should be guaranteed for a player. There's exceptions, if you're a prime Ronaldo or Messi.

    Well said!!

We all know Ten Hag has or had his favourite players (Hopefully that has changed!!!)....best example was Antony.

But like said Maguire has done nothing wrong to lose his place (He was also good against Manchester City).....that would send a wrong message to the squad.

Yes, that was something last season that did annoy me with Ten Hag. Problem was, I don't think there was many times he had backup position players ready and fit.

It does send a strong message to the likes of De Ligt, that you're not guaranteed to start. You have to earn it and when you earn it, you have to keep it. The crest on the front is more important than the name on the back.

He's got to either go with a three of Garnacho, Rashford and Amad or Zirkzee, Rashford and Garnacho.

Either way Garnacho has to start as we need his ability to get in behind. Bruno just loves looking for the ball through with him.

I'd take a point, as long as the performance is encouraging.

I think I'd completely change the front four from the Fulham game though. I'd start Zirkzee as a false 9, effectively in the role Bruno has been playing, move Mount out to AML, start Garnacho AMR and have Bruno as the AMC. That would suit EtHs 4-2-4 press as it gives us loads of energy and technically good players high up the pitch.

Seems I'm in the minority but I think Maguire wasn't great against Fulham. Did alright defensively but wasn't good enough in possession

He was not amazing but he was surely the best....who was better in your opinion?

    Rashford

    Zirzkee

That’s what I’d like. But I expect he’ll shoe horn Mount in. If Rashford is stinking the joint out, easy swap with Amad and switch sides with Garnacho.

    1-2 win, Garnacho & Mainoo

De Ligt should start because we want him as fit and as ready as possible for Liverpool the following week.

The fact that their manager was born in the 90s is fecking scary. He was born after the Premier League started. He’s only six years older than me. He’s younger than some of their bloody players.

He looks like he was born in 2004.

Have a feeling Maguire will keep his place until his form drops, this reminds me of the situation when McT kept Casemiro out of the team when he first joined United.

Reasonablh excited for the match, but still very discouraging that we play Dalot as LB.

De Ligt in for Maguire. Otherwise keep the same team.

Harsh on Maguire, but they will press us like maniacs. Dont see that ending well for us, need all the help we can get.

No need to be so defensive against them. They were vulnerable to pressing against Everton.

    Same tactics as against Fulham.

Result will be determined by the quality of our performance.
I thought that's how all our results were decided?

Could be the 2nd time United top the league this season...trust the project!

Anyone wishing we still had AWB for tomorrow to lock down their Japanese winger? Just me?

Who knows, maybe Mazraoui will surprise me, but I would feel a lot better about it if I knew that the best 1 v 1 defender in the league was out there.

It also sucks that Dalot has to play LB again, which means we will have almost zero threat down that side.

Its frustrating to be so uncertain about tomorrow as we should be able to handle them. They seem like a weird jumble of pieces with the players basically strangers to each other, and if they start an old man James Milner in CM then again, we should be able to win that battle in the middle of the pitch.

We're going to be seeing that on one side or the other this season. We won't be having 2 fullbacks getting forward if one is tasked with helping midfield.

I reckon we will sign a cheap left back on deadline day. I reckon it will amusingly be the same one we signed on deadline day last summer.

I mean I understand they both won't be bombing forward at the same time, but wouldn't the plan be that when one fullback goes forward, the other one recognizes it and drops in to help the midfield?

But my complaint is that right now with Dalot he barely overlaps, and when he does he has to stop and get it back on his right foot. When Luke is available again there will at least be the option of the LB overlapping Rashford and actually being able to go to the line and put in a cross, or cut inside and drive to the box.

Ever read the match day threads during the match? Or the post match? We never deserve a point from a draw, and seldom deserve the three points from a win. Our performances are never good enough for our results. A million monkeys on typewriters can't all be wrong....

Benchmark game against a resurgent Brighton, who have been consistently outplaying United for some time, and their tails will be high after splattering Everton last week as guests. They will want to deliver in front of their fans. Odds have United as underdogs, and from the few Brightonians I've heard they expect a win here. If there ever was a time to prove this supposed progress that United have made, it's now.

Not being played off the park and getting a point here would be a win.
