I think we’ll go with the same team, except Garnacho in for Amad (I’d leave as is but Erik will probably make that change). I don’t think he will swap Zirkzee in for Mount yet.

As a Brighton fan, have to disagree, it’s a big match but nothing like a cup final. More on a par with any big team with top six aspirations. Palace at home is a much bigger game for us!

Sure there are local rivalries, but you're discounting just how many childhoods we ruined under Fergie - the United scalp carries more value than the others aiming for top 6, if for nothing other than by virtue of being the biggest and most famous club by a mile.

I have a big soft spot for United, but I'm just giving you the view from a Brighton fan. Playing against you is nothing like a cup final despite what Fergie managed 15-20 odd years ago, it's worth adding he certainly didn't ruin football for me in anyway as we were generally two or three leagues below, it was a joy to watch.

But your initial post claiming that playing you at home is like a cup final for us is just plain wrong, it really isn't any different to any other big premier league club. It's always nice to say we've beaten United, but just as nice a feeling to beat Liverpool, City or Arsenal.

I think it's more from player/team perspective than fan perspective, but cup final is a bit of a stretch alright.

Last time we won our first two league matches was in 2017/2018 season, that's pretty wild.

Anyway, I'd start Garnacho, simply because I've got him on my FPL team.

I remember that…we actually got off to a good start that season. It tailed off by September though and by December when we were beaten at home by City the league was all but gone. They were a fecking juggernaut that season.

But surprised that so many suggests Garnacho needs to get in the team. Thought he was rather poor vs Fulham?

He's rusty. No preseason. The difference between a fit Garnacho and what we saw Friday will make a difference.

Your perspective is a sensible one, I wish more folks shared it, that would go a long way towards reducing the regular game raising against United that we experience.

Picking rusty players does not seem like a good way to get a result against a strong Brighton side imo.
Having said that, he and Rashford offers the team more or less the same things, so not to fuzzed who of them starts on the left.

Preseason and the first game feel like we have improved. So this game will show us how much we have improved.

Till Friday ,I am sure we will win this.

On Saturday , I become Doom Monger and predict a 3-0 loss.

    Reality is somewhere in between

We need another win as next game is against Liverpool, need to build up the confidence.

Id go with same line up but with garnacho in for rashford who was absolutely awful.

We lost 4-0 to Brentford the season before last, and put in one of the best performances under ETH in the next game against the dirty scousers and won.

Still it's always better to get there with the confidence at top. Also top 4 is going to be hard this year we need to have a strong start to be on the race.

The way I see it City and Arsenal are nailed, then there's Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Aston Villa and Newcastle that's 6 teams fighting for 2 spots.

Good early game to see where we are heading this season. A victory down there will set us up nicely for the scousers.

Heading down for the 1st time since 2018, which was a defeat last time out there for me.

Garnacho in for Amad will be the only change I reckon, unless Maguire is injured and then it will be De Ligt.

Recent record versus brighton is quite simply embarrassing. As good as they are, we have lost 4 from the last 6, conceding 10, scoring 4.

Have lost to brighton 6 times since 2018. Havent had a draw with them in our last 20 matches (we beat them on pens in cup), going back to 1992, so maybe that's due. I'd love a win here though, especially with liverpool after, and beating a side that has had the better of us lately would be confidence boosting.

Erik needs to start De Ligt + Licha as CBs and Amad + Garna as wingers, and Zirkzee from minute one, the rest of the team being the same. Enough of the bullshit!

If he does that, I hope we have enough in our tanks to beat fecking Brighton, even without Ugarte. Sick and tired of being scared of teams like Brighton and Aston Villa. It's not like they are Real or Barca, and we shouldn't be scared even of those (esp. since we beat Barca not that long ago).

Respect your opponents but stop being scared of second-tier teams, ffs. Have some goddamned pride, United

What is this supposed to mean?

Don't be arrogant, but be arrogant anyway?

Yeah, I'd have the same XI if it's possible to do so. Even though Zirkzee scored, I'd probably be bringing him on after an hour away from home two games in.

I can see another 20-25 mins from the bench from zirkzee before he’s ready to start…. Man was injured end of last season I think and with no pre season his minutes needs to be managed

I'd keep the same team. Maybe De Ligt for Maguire. Play the same way we did against City in the Charity Shield and we'll win this.

No he wasn't, and Garnacho was worse when he came on. Just hyperbolic nonsense to continue to bash him.

All 3 of the wingers are capable of more but it was only the first game of the season, give them chance.

I’d bring in de Ligt for Maguire and Garnacho for Amad

Unlucky for Maguire as he did well but if we’re spending 100m on 2 new defenders you can’t be starting Maguire.

Amad was poor. Rashford was ok. Don’t think either of them could complain.

I wouldn't say poor, Amad kept possesion very well. He struggled in the first half from an attacking ouput perspective but that was also because Fulham got back quick and both wings they were doubling up, Rashford had the same issue in the first half as well. But Amad and Mount going off contributed to the game becoming more scrappy. Rashford gave good energy, created some chances. Not him at his blistering best but its what should be considered a normal/base level game for him (which we did not see a lot of yesterday). So to drop him after putting in effort etc I think would send the wrong message right now.

I do however see Garnacho taking a starting spot at some point depending on whether he steps up another level.

Neither de ligt or garnacho are match fit enough to be starting
