Why is Maguire starting? I don't want to hear match fitness about De Ligt, he's hardly touched a ball.
Because he’s earned it. How it should be, a meritocracy.

Not sure why he has gone with the same line-up as last week instead of starting De Ligt and Zirkzee, this could end up being decided with anotber late goal
Because as he’s already stated numerous times, neither of them is nearly fit enough to be starting a match. Same goes with Garnacho

I think soon it will be that Amad and Garnacho start.

Garnacho is much better off the bench though, Amad allows us to hold the ball better. I would like to see Zirkzee start soon. His first touch is a joke and I like how he links play and runs into the box.
Zirkzee will probably come on and make a big impact again. Cant wait to see him start which will hopefully increase the goals from our wingers. I’m intrigued to see how Zirkzee and Fernandes can play together though as they like to operate in the same positions.

Damn Wieffer is out injured so Gilmour gets a game, apart from that our line up looks pretty much as expected.

I would have liked to see Garnacho in for Rashford today but otherwise all makes sense.

Pleased Maguire keeps his place, players playing very well then losing out sends the wrong message.

Hopefully Zirkzee gets a bit more time. I think his ability to hold up the ball will be important against Liverpool.

Even if i would like to see De Ligt play i agree. Would send a bad signal to the team if you play really well then you get benched the next week.

Annoying that De Ligt is not starting yet, but as people say that was never going to be the case. He's probably not starting until Saints or Crystal Palace I'd imagine.

Please explain why Zirkzee, match-winner of previous game, Garna assister on match-winner of previous game, and De Ligt - the CB we paid a lot to bring to fix our playing style, why none of them are starting?

I try to be supportive of Erik but decisions like this are infuriating

    You feeling confident?
Hopeful is probably a better word, I'm never confident! But Pedro, Mitoma, Wellbeck and Minteh should cause some problems for you. But I worry about our midfield of Milner and Gilmour.

Don’t fancy us today. Brighton play a high line and would have preferred pace through the middle. Shame no Hojlund really. Would have been tempted to play Rashford central with Bruno feeding between the lines.

    Can see a defeat unfortunately.

They’re obviously not fit enough yet, neither had much of a preseason. It’s only match day 2 why rush them into the team?

    Has Gilmore not kicked on?

    Your forwards will cause issues.

I would have thought the answer was quite obvious?

I hate playing Brighton early but they're always such a good marker of where your team is at. One of those that the performance will say a hell of a lot more than the result. They always play well in big games but have ok at best players so don't always take advantage. If we put in a good performance here then I'll be positive for the season. Get fully outplayed and the alarm bells will be going off, even if we grind out a result.

Is Milner 40 now? God I remember his first games at Leeds.

A point and we’d be satisfied wouldn’t we?

None of the pundits seem to acknowledge just how badly our squad was decimated by injuries last season. Whenever we get mentioned in conversations for top 4, the go-to response is "they finished 8th last season". Like we didn't finish 3rd the season before that.

I'd love to see us win most of our opening 10 games just to see the pundits do a full 180.
Liverpool scraped 5th under Klopp then last season with a few midfielders suddenly were in a title fight until the last few weeks.
Chelsea had a shocker twice then went into great seasons. Last time under Conte 10th to first. We did it under Jose 6th to 2nd.

I like what Brighton have done with their buying though. When the window shuts they will probably have spent £200 million.

It’s a bit mad that the Rutter guy on Brighton’s bench has already been transferred for £25m and £40m at age 22, without doing much of note yet.

In addition to all the explanations about fitness and winning lineup, the match felt like it became a coin flip once those guys came on. We sacrificed control and relied on quality (and Pereira and Iwobi being poor).

Depends which one turns up, he ios capable of having amazing games and pulling the strings beautifully from midfield, bit too often he disappears. If he is having a bad game, I imagine he'll be subbed for Baleba, who has the potential to be at least as good as Caicedo was for us.

Seems I'm in the minority but I think Maguire wasn't great against Fulham. Did alright defensively but wasn't good enough in possession

Zirkzee is not fully match fit, he will come on at 60mins.
Maguire was a motm candidate v Fulham he was always starting today. De Ligt will get minutes again.

Have your fans got a song for him to the tune of Believer by Smash Mouth?

    Disgrace if not.

What I don't get is Bruno and Mount starting and they're standing right up front like a 4-4-2. Mount should be playing far deeper, he's doing nothing up there, he can press from midfield. There we still plenty of gaps against Fulham a d if Brighton get that much space, we're in for a long afternoon.

Come on boys! Show us you’ve learnt how to play as a team, need to be high press and full of energy today. Can’t play our way into it.

    That's the spirit

Didn't realise our record was that bad against them.

A win here would make it a very nice start to the season.

Come on now United!!! Get stuck in and give them hell. Very important to get two straight wins and especially as the manager picked the same team as last week.

Would take a point here, we don't tend to look good against Brighton.

It will be interesting to see their level. I felt when we beat them last season that De Zerbi team was absolutely running on fumes.

Obviously they got a big win last season but Everton are so rubbish.
