I like that he's giving Mount and Amad another 60 minutes or so. Garnacho is one hell of an impact sub vs tired legs. Surely he starts vs Liverpool's high line next week.
Ye mount is crucial in the pressing game. Especially against this type of opposition that like to dominate the ball.

Today I would have given Wheatley his spot on the bench, when we have a fully fit squad he should be nowhere near the match squad. I do wonder how we're going to keep everyone happy though.

I mean I don’t rate Antony at all but there’s no way I’d be putting Wheatley ahead of him.

This team performed well against Fulham, especially in the first half, so it's a good decision to stick with it. But EtH will have to be careful with the subs. We cannot cede control to Brighton like we did against Fulham when we inevitably run out of legs in the latter stages of the game.

    Amad now preferred to Garnacho.

Not necessarily. Garnacho played a lot last season, had amassed almost 100 appearances for United before turning 20, and then went to Copa America in the summer. There's absolutely no problem with him starting the season as a rotational option, for now. Amad, on the other hand, is 22 and hasn't had nearly enough first team football in the last 12 months. He absolutely needs to play at this stage of his career, whilst Garnacho needs a bit of a rest. I'm scared that we will overplay both him and Mainoo.

Would have started Garnacho/Zirkzee/De Ligt personally just for the Liverpool game coming up.

    Let’s go.

Antony taking up a spot on the bench is criminal, as an attacker he makes zero impact off the bench. Surely when we have a fully fit squad this guy won't be making the bench.
When do we ever have a fully fit squad?

For as long as we have the likes of Antony and Sancho on the books, we'll end up needing them at various points throughout the season - hopefully more as subs - due to the amount of games we'll have and, likely, injuries we'll have as well.

With no Hojlund, who'd be the other attacker on the bench? Either Sancho, or then we're down to the kids like Wheatley, Williams, Ennis, Mather. They got game time with the U21's last night, and with Zirkzee on the bench as the #9 (Wheatley's role), it's more of a wide player we're looking for in that sub role and so I'm 'happy enough' (well, let's not exaggerate!) with Antony compared to the likes of Ennis and Mather.

There's obviously just a massive drop in quality from the ones in real contention for starts (Amad, Garnacho, Rashford, Fernandes, Zirkzee, Hojlund) and the rest, who'll just make up the numbers when needed.

Hopefully Amad locks down RW and Garnacho gets into the team at LW (or pushes Rashford get back to his best).
Ye I love watching amad as he can create stuff out of nothing an his dribbling his so good. Rashford will know he has to up his game with Garnacho lurking about.

Which is why signing Ugarte is essential. Will allow us to rest mainoo although mainoo is one of the first names on the team sheet nowadays. He’s progressed so much. You’ve even got people like Carragher saying he’s going to become a star.

I see this game being the last one the starting lineup remains unchanged.

    Amad now preferred to Garnacho.
Outside of Onana, Martinez, Dalot, and Fernandes there are no ‘preferences’ as to who is starting the bulk of matches. We are two games into the season and everyone is at varying levels of match fitness.

Thought Zirkzee would have started after his positive impact off the bench last week. But not going to disagree with that team.

This is one of our bogey teams at a ground we don’t have a great record at. Just hope we put that right today.

I doubt Ugarte could play Mainoo's role if he joins. We need someone like Rabiot or another starting quality #8 if we want to rest Mainoo, which is important IMO. Ugarte would be rotating with Casemiro and Collyer.

Bar the game at Brighton last season, our visits to Amex have usually underwhelmed where we have been outplayed. I am really hoping that ETH can show some tactical development where we are not on the ropes for long periods of the game, though I anticipate they will be mostly in the ascendancy.

It's all right to give the same XI another chance, but I hope we'll see some improvement from this bunch.
Otherwise, we'll have to wait for Garnacho and Zirkzee again
Plus, Brighton will surely be more dangerous than Fulham

I much prefer this, where form seems to matter more. If you play well, you play next week. Must be so much better for the squad long term to have actual competition for places.

Usually, i agree, but it's the second match of the season, and De Ligt arrived 38 minutes ago. It makes more sense to use players who know eachother and have played pre-season together, at the beginning of the season.

Bit disappointed, would have liked De Ligt and Zirkzee to start.

Just play your best starting 11 and they are both better than Maguire and Mount.

Wieffer missing for Brighton is big. That midfield of Milner and Gilmour is a weak spot.

Yeah we really needed to try and sell him but I guess the potential loss we would need to take would just be too huge right now. I rate with Shaw, Yoro & Hojlund all fit, plus possibly Ugarte joining he’s struggling to make the squad.

On a very random note, what’s happening with Lindelof? Surely he needs moving on but I’ve barely read anything along those lines.
    Injured.

Why is Maguire starting? I don't want to hear match fitness about De Ligt, he's hardly touched a ball.

This is a little too simplistic.

Mount would be first name I pick today, away from home against a good footballing side his outrageous pressing will be vital to us disrupting them today.

We don’t know how good Zirkzee is yet.

I can’t wait to see the 2 you mentioned but it’s sensible.

I see this game being the last one the starting lineup remains unchanged.
I don’t know Ten Hag does like to keep a team together that wins. Agree that changes will happen eventually but he’s pretty consistent when it comes to keeping line ups.

Aww this interview with the kid before the game is great. Also good prediction.

I see this game being the last one the starting lineup remains unchanged.
We play Liverpool next Sunday so I’d imagine there’s 2/3 players fighting to keep their place today so hopefully we see a performance

Our performance is being overrated on here. We've improved but we were still wide open on the defensive transition, good and shakey in equally large spells.

Hope we do them, but can't deny that I'm scared.

Gilmour has only played 9 mins since the Euros so will not be up to match sharpness.

Surprised Brighton are playing him not just just for that reason but he’s potentially going to be a Napoli player soon.

I would have liked to see Garnacho in for Rashford today but otherwise all makes sense.

Pleased Maguire keeps his place, players playing very well then losing out sends the wrong message.

Hopefully Zirkzee gets a bit more time. I think his ability to hold up the ball will be important against Liverpool.

Not sure why he has gone with the same line-up as last week instead of starting De Ligt and Zirkzee, this could end up being decided with anotber late goal

    Amad now preferred to Garnacho.
I think soon it will be that Amad and Garnacho start.

Garnacho is much better off the bench though, Amad allows us to hold the ball better. I would like to see Zirkzee start soon. His first touch is a joke and I like how he links play and runs into the box.
