I do agree with you (I always support United to win and will be doing so today) but, even if we are getting a new manager next summer, we still need to do as well as possible for the rest of this.

Yes, the best case is that Erik does a decent enough job to get us top 4 or wins the Europa but does that seem likely to happen given how inept he appears to be at most aspects of managing this team? If we lose today and get an interim in, I strongly suspect that we will be far better off in a month’s time than if we scrape a draw and keep Erik.
Maybe, but our record under interim managers is poor. We were middling under Giggs, woeful under Rangnick and Carrick was too short to judge.

I hate the thought of this season being a write off six games into the league, so no idea what's best, given the lack of clarity on who's available.

I think this will be the last time we see ETH as United manager:

    ..........................Onana.............

    Mazraoui.Maguire.Martinez.Shaw

    .............Mainoo......Ugarte.............
    .....................Bruno...................
    Garnacho..........................Rashford
    .....................Højlund...................

    Subs: Zirkzee, Eriksen, Amad.

    We lose 2-0

I'd like a win and a sacking because that would at least be a sign that the new team have half a clue what they are doing.

I understand people express their support and what they think best for the club in their own ways. Don't get the certainty some have that one more defeat will result in his sacking.

We'll see what happens today I guess. Happier I saw story linking us to Alonso this morning rather than Southgate at least.
Yep agreed. I just believe a Manchester United manager cannot be in 14th place and 11 points behind Liverpool already after 7 games in without being sacked.

Let’s see. Alonso links are encouraging!

Not really. An establishment that makes a mockery of a managerial appointment by reducing it to a baseball style strikes on the board is doomed to fail. Either he is good for us or isn’t.

How can we reduce the decision of the best path forward as an outcome of a single game? Even if we somehow win, the sword will continue to hang above his head.

Absolute shambles the way this has been dealt with. I refuse to believe that we are indecisive because decisions in other areas have been swift. The only way this makes sense is that we are skint and don’t have the money to either pay ETH or his successor so we are hoping this somehow drags on.
Oh I completely agree, the fact that it’s come to a single game potentially is almost comical. It should never.

This decision should’ve been made ages ago. INEOS are losing the trust of the core fanbase day by day this drags on.

Only three options here. Win, lose or draw, that much is obvious but the manner in the way we do it is entirely predictable. We will either be at the end of a hiding and get well and truly destroyed by their front three, we will somehow hold on for dear life and scrape a draw or the most unlikely option where we somehow fluke our way to an unconvincing and very undeserving win. All three should lead to the man in charge getting the sack.

Change my prediction to a convincing 5-2 win with Højlund first hat trick …. Just feels there’s something bubbling under and it Woolf be unleashed today

Villa would be daft to not start Duran and Watkins today given the problems Samu posed in the week. He bullied de Ligt and Martinez all game.

ten Hag must be considering playing Maguire for his aerial attributes

He is waiting for Madrid job, already turned down a chance to manage scousers this summer

Ye we can not afford to drop any more points in our battle to finish top 4. Im worried though if we win he stays on as manager. Which would be a joke considering we could get a fluky win by a deflection, a penalty, then getting a sending off. None of that should prevent him being sacked.

I’m expecting ETH to set up the way he does against city. He knows his jobs on the line. He’s gonna try and set up to counter and stay compact.

Yeah that's my concern as well, just want this to end

I'd start Maguire & De Ligt and try Martinez at left back myself.

Quite possibly. Particularly if Mount is fit, I could see him going back to similar attack as the first couple of games of the season.

For us the trouble with that is they tend to get in each other's way as they both want to run off the shoulder of last defender.

Maybe Ollie can drop deeper but then he gets in Morgan Rogers space.

Would rather see us bring in Maatsen on the left as then that's another direct ball carrier for you to have to deal with infield.

Given how Dalot has been used, it's surprising Ten Hag hasn't experimented with this setup:

    Onana
Mazraoui — De Ligt — Maguire
    Mainoo — Martinez
    Garnacho — Bruno — Eriksen — Rashford
    Zirkzee

The main concern would be Maguire's ability to cover in wide areas. If he’s isolated in 1v1 situations out wide, it could expose us defensively.

We've looked so wide open and fragile in the last 2 games, and with the pace and conviction with which Villa attack, I can't see how they don't score at least 3.

Loss for the sack is the best option for the long term success of the club.

Win and he stays to drag us through more shite is what will happen.

Head says loose for the long term.
Heart won't let me want us to lose.

So in the middle useless is where I belong.

    Draw and sack.

Yeah it doesn't come without it's concerns. I'm not actually a fan of it tactically personally but he's not changing it so I think it's time to adjust the personnel.

We really need a win today, I don't care if we play crap as long as we can somehow steal the points. No doubt another 90 mins of total chaos. Come on United, give us a win before the international break.

0-1 win for us. Antony winner.
ETH goes to town on the media post game.
    Sacked in the international break.
    Southgate arrives, United relegated.
Glazers sell, Sir Jim’s master plan for majority is complete.

Im really not convinced he's gone by next week, as much as it feels like the vast majority of the fan base has given up on ETH. It would be nice to see a good result, more than anything just to avoid more misery on a weekend. I just can't shake the air of inevitability & hopelessness about the situation, I pray the higher-ups are planning something next week, I think we all could do with a bit of hope!

I get the sense that some people are hoping we lose today just to give the club more justification to sack Ten Hag. While I’m now in the 'Ten Hag out' camp, wanting your team to lose simply to push a manager out is absurd. A win today, which is entirely achievable, would put us just 3 points behind Villa. Surely, we all want our club to be in the strongest position possible, regardless of whether Ten Hag stays or goes.

Agree and I also don't think it's as black and white as lose he's out and win he's not.

They have only beaten us 4 times since 1995 as was mentioned, they just can't play against us regardless of form, apparently.
4 defeats in 29 years is unreal.

Just realised I'm not going to be able to watch this, thought kick off was at 4.30.

Not even bothered if I'm honest. Hope we win, sack Ten Hag anyway and start afresh after the internationals.

Hearing its Maguire and Evans CB

    ........

No Zirkzee, Ugarte, Martinez or De Ligt and he bought them all

I can see us fluking a win after playing horrible, horrible football against the run of play, and they will keep ETH, we will then lose the first game after international break

It's such a familiar story, you think the manager is close to finally being sacked, we get a result, it causes the high ups to ignore everything that has gone before it

I'd have classed the Porto game as a loss, throwing away a 2 goal lead like that
