We aren’t in a position to pick and choose who plays and when, he should be picking his first 11 and sticking with it to try and turn this shit show around.
I don't think playing poorly performing players when they are trying to settle is the way forward.

The manager is an idiot isn't he? Eh eh eh

So the line up shows that we don't really know what our best back four is despite having little in the way of injuries. Ten Hag is merely now picking players he believes he can trust. The idea of high press and high line quite simply is out the window. Ugarte, De Ligt and Martinez have done nothing in recent matches to suggest that they deserve to start this game. However I'm perplexed that Bruno to date hasn't been benched just to give him a. rest and b. a.message that he is not undroppable.

    Its a process!

What is the process here? Go back to players you already have after spending a fortune?

The last two times we tried to play on counter in the league we started with Rashford and Garnacho(cause pace ftw!!) and got utterly spanked against Liverpool and Tottenham.

Our half "decent" performances came when we were set up with high press and forcing opponents into mistakes. If we are again sitting deep with no pressing at all then this will be another Tottenham game where we will be under siege right from the get go.

That period of high pressing was when Mount was fit and leading the line in tandem with Bruno. It was effectively the tactics deployed against City in the final. And it was likely used because Zirkzee was not match fit and hardly trained with the team and Rasmus was injured.

It's a big call by Erik to drop both the centre backs and go without defensive cover in midfield. Would have loved for Mount to be fit for the match.

So either of Mainoo or Eriksen going to break attacks before they got to Maguire and Evans! Wow.

I mean can kind of see why he would rotate the the 2 cb’s given they played Thursday and got worked over but that midfield is asking for trouble, especially combined with those CB’s.

Only thing I can think is he has decided today is a low block and counter kind of day hence the front three and our best passers but yeah has danger written all over it.

Mount has done little since he has come to Old Trafford. Another expensive recruitment blunders to go alongside all the others IMO.

Even if we survive today, ETH should get the boot for that team selection. Its not that players are bad. Its that he spent a fortune just to end up playing the team that he already had when he took the job for a game that is probably going to decide whether he stays or go

We're gonna win today, and everyone will be like "huh
... maybe he's on to something." and he stays.

And around and around we go.

Even if a fortune has been spent on a player, he still has to earn to play. Neither De Ligt nor Martinez deserve to play after their miserable cartoon-like efforts in Porto.

Neither is playing players who have performed poorly for the last 2/3 years.
Bruno has been poor this season I dont think he's been poor last season. I dont think Mainoo and Eriksen have been poor this season.

I dont care anymore I just want to watch the football

Think this is a telling line up regarding the players he trusts to do a job for him. No De Ligt, Martinez, Casemiro or Ugarte is pretty damning.

Don’t worry, after 5 minutes you will no longer want to watch the football.

We'll win this one. Barkley and Tielemans anchoring midfield is weak and can be got at. I can't see them protecting their defence all that well. Not concerned about CB rotation as MdL and Lisandro have been woeful. That's just an indictment of ETH really that he's finally got his defence that he bemoaned all last season and now he's reverting back to the CB pairing that apparently held him back last season. Laughable.

One of the reasons we end up accepting the level we’re at now.
Exactly. Among big clubs, we are the most kind fans towards our players and manager. One good game, win, assist or a goal is enough to accept them "as good enough".

Look at goals which we give them at the beggining of the season. Fans are happy if our leading striker will score 10 goals, if winger will "run a lot", if defender will manage to play from the back and best part; if manager will catch top 4.
    Our standards hit rock bottom.

But we're striving to get back to being a top elite club.
We are, but that doesn't happen over night. If we could attract players like Vinicius, Mbappé and so on, then sure, but we can't even convince Amadou Onana to join us because he had already agreed with Villa, so signing elite clubs second choices is not necessarily bad. They play for them for a reason. Bayern didn't make De Ligt their second most expensive transfer ever if he was a bad player.

He will come good, but it won't be under this clown manager.

What to do against a lightning fast attack? Start your slowest defenders of course. Genius.

Eriksen gave a goal away the other day in a way you’d expect to see at a Sunday league game.

Maguire has been average to poor for most of his time here
Evans is a 6th choice CB for a reason
Eriksen has been average to poor for most of his time here
Bruno has been on the decline for the last 18mths
Rashford has been in horrific form for last 18mths and shows no defensive work ethic at all.

We may as well have never made any signings under ten hag the way we're going. We've bought good players but don't know how to use them

A signing that most of us had reservations over due to his slowness and injury record. What has changed about our clown show recruitment strategy really? Yoro is the only exciting player we brought in and of course he immediately got injured.
Not much. The new guys too decided to indulge ETH for some reason when they should have canned him.

We sold ~100m worth of players, which was a welcome change, but the purchases weren't very good. No goal scorer, no midfield passer, needed a faster CB for the left side but we decided to become the last stop on De Ligt's big club tour and didn't sign a LB.

Now we are starting with Maguire and Evans with Eriksen in front. The mind boggles.

Best hope this game is that Villa are still hungover from the mid-week win and we park the bus and a couple of our counters work. Otherwise it's going to be a long long 90 minutes.

Yeah but what’s the bad news?

I'm not sure what you're arguing here but going back to what my point is - Ugarte has been consistently below par since he joined, he needs to settle and I don't find the decision to bench him out against a tricky away team remotely contravertial.

Is Mount injured again. I know he missed games midweek due to concussion protocol. Does today still come under that time scale?

He suffered the injury to the head and another knock that wasn't clarified.
