If Fellaini picks up an yellow, Mou should get him off right away.

I thought a couple of the Ajax starters were supposed to be out due to illness?

We'll bend them over and spank them like a lil bitch! Go United!!

Mata over Lingard is a positive move by Jose. A gamble.

I find it strange that this is considered to be a gamble. Or a shock. I understand why, I just find it a little silly.

Lingard is faster but Mata is better (comfortably) at almost everything else you'd want in an attacking sense. By playing Lingard instead we would be weakening the team.

Its important to note Smalling has better synergy with Blind than Jones, I don't think Jones and Blind even started any competitive games together.
They did, as a center-back pairing actually. For instance, we won 4-0 Feyenoord at home.

It's on nights like this I wish I had taken up drinking.

I don't understand why Jose picks Smalling and Fellaini against a footballing side, makes no sense, they are not an aerial threat so Fellaini and Smalling aren't required.

Really nervy about this, not feeling confident at all right now, need Pogba to have a good game to stand a chance.

Ehm...maybe because they will give us a HUGE advantage on OUR set-pieces ? :)

I am a little surprised to see Mata start but he is our most experienced player in the starting line up. He has played and won both the Europa and CL. None of the others have even played in a European final.

Sooooo happy Mata is starting ahead of Lingard.

I'd lose my shit if Lingard misses 20 chances in the game.

Was kind of hoping Harrop and Mitchell might start, but I understand not playing them in the final. Would've been fun though.
Decent team overall, this Ajax side play some good stuff so it will be tough to beat them.

Made sure I had today off from work.

Just got back from the gym, going to jump in the shower with a few beers and get this party started.

    COME ON UNITED!

We could pump the ball over the top of the press to Pogba, Fellaini can't do anything with it when he gets it so there's no counter by passing it to him, we should be pressing them instead of letting them come onto us, it's what they want and eventually they'll circumvent an immobile lump with how quickly they move.
Your hate for Fellaini will just make you refuse to see anything I counter.

Fellaini is our best outlet for getting these passes down, and then can easily pass them on to Pogba.

Pogba simply can't do the same job that Fellaini will be doing as well.

Jose is a winner so that gives me confidence but on other side we saw Jose setting teams up with coward mentality so we dont see that side.

Think I would have preferred Jones over Smalling but a good side none the less! Hopefully they perform.

Smalling this, Blind that. Boh, ya boring.

If Mourinho and the attacking players play this game with flair, aggression and positivity then we win. It's that simple.

If we play negatively, use Mata and Mkhitaryan as auxiliary full backs and invite Ajax pressure then we'll suffer the consequences.

    Score two goals, please.

The problem isn't about playing negatively or whatnot. This is a one-off game(no 2nd leg) and besides, we aren't playing for points. Jose knows we have to score here today to qualify for CL so I expect him to drive the boys forward.

The real issue is Fellaini's red mist. He could go out there tonight, elbow someone in the face and give the advantage to Ajax via his persistent stupidity. I don't think Ajax can beat us over 90 mins but we can beat ourselves. I understand why Fellaini gets a start, I just worry about his IQ.

Mata, Micki and Pogs should ostensibly link up very well together. We haven't yet seen it this year, but they're too talented and of the same footballing mindset that the potential for attacking creativity is there. Let's hope it shines through today.
