I think over time, we'll end up becoming a really good defensive team that can attack, rather than an attacking team. When we do have to defend and counter, we are quite good. I can see us being consistent with that....IN THIS SYSTEM. I just think we need to improve the athleticism of the players across the team, and ensure that we try to sign dynamic players in the front 3 ( we already have Amad). I think that's where we will see success....being slightly better at the back, keeping our pressing to a high standard, playing though the defence less ( allowing for direct attacks through the centre or connections with wing backs) and having a solid shape that is difficult for teams to play through.
In essence, the ability to control a game without needing to create many chances. I think personnel wise Yoro, De Ligt, Bruno, Ugarte, Amad, Mount, Mazrauoi, Shaw, Dorgu, Collyer and a few youngsters coming through can work in this system. However, I have serious doubts about Hojlund, who at most should be a back up. Zirzkee doesn't fit an athletic team and actually hurts us in our pressing and covering. He's also not quick or dynamic enough to lead a counter. Onana also has to go, his presence doesn't allow for composure. He's far too erratic for a team looking to be secure.
I think with time, Amorim will end up coming to this conclusion, because the best we've played under him have been in situations where we defend. In these games, we can attack and feel less under threat. At the moment, with the 343, playing out of the back seemingly invites pressure and keeps the ball in our own half.
