Probably an unpopular opinion but I'd prefer us getting Belotti or someone similar to getting Griezmann
It's obvious that our problem is scoring goals so I don't see the point in replacing our only consistent goalscorer (Zlatan) with an unproven lump.

We need to strengthen our attack by bringing in more than one player or we'll end up in the same place or worse. Griezmann would have been a perfect start.

Everyone going with the same info simultaneously...Probably a brief by the club for some reason.

We've switched our position due of Zlatan's injury... well.. haven't we known about that injury for the past few months?
Last title win under Sir Alex we had RvP, Rooney, Welbeck, Chicharito, Kagawa competing for 9 & 10.
Next season we're going in currently with Rashford & Martial only on the books.
I found that puzzling as well, unless they now definitely know he is not coming back, not a fitness issue, that he actually wants to go elsewhere. Why does something always seem to put a spanner in our transfer works?

It's the BBC that's killing muppets (including me). They don't just jump on bandwagons or post stuff halfheartedly. They are respected in transfer news for a reason.

If he does end up signing I'll happily admit I'm a fecking idiot. I genuinely feel this is off now though, when was the last time the BBC have backtracked.

He'll probably still sign. But if true then it does make sense. Its what ive been saying for a while. Griezmann is class but he really isnt someone who fits our current squad. A number 9 is the priority, and having 2 strikers (grizi as the 10) would then cause pogba to be restricted basically. And griezmann is nothing more then average if you play him anywhere else.

But yeah, not too bothered. I would rather sign a class winger and striker this summer then griezmann. Those 2 and we dont need someone like griezmann. Sign griezmann and we still need a striker and a winger. Hes just not a priority.

Not being funny guys but @Acquire Me knows somebody in a marketing department, he won't have been privy to a decision that could have been made as recently as yesterday. Yes it "MIGHT" have been a close deal, but this court ruling has probably thrown that all away now.

Unless he hears different, then I'm sure he will update.

Maybe we will come back in for him in January/next summer, but I fear this one is dead now.
You are absolutely right about this Adam-Utd, its possible, but it makes no sense at all. I would expect that every business regarding this transfer would have been stopped weeks/months ago if this is true. United as a business are not clueless idiots running a deli down town.

Just had a quick search online for us 'cooling interest in Pogba' as so many are saying happened last year.

Can't find anything at all saying we ever cooled our interest. Sure there are reports saying other clubs were trying to bring him in, that they were close to getting him etc. But not one article where anyone says our interest in him had died off.

In fact I found several that openly state that we had made him the priority signing for the summer.

I believe that at some point during the Pogba saga, which I think was 1-2 weeks before we signed him, journalists were saying we were put off by his fee and we were focusing on other targets. Matuidi was one of them I think. It could be just to raise coverage and hype before he is announced.

Transfer ban or no transfer ban though, we should be pulling all the stops to get this guy here. If it's for nothing but the release clause then so be it.
If my memory serves me right the Pogba rumours were coming from crap sources. Di Marzio was pretty confident about the Pogba deal and BBC never said anything about Pogba not joining. The timing and the sources worry me, I genuinley think we have "cooled interest"

 Mourinho just woke up today and totally forgot about that after months of pursuing him, even when he was at Chelsea their was interest reported.

I actually think the transfer ban has made him decide to stay for one more season so Atletico isn't screwed. He has probably told us that in private, and we have respected his wishes and released this briefing so everyone can move on without anybody looking bad.

I'm not one to overreact but this seems like it's not happening. The briefing would not be this widespread if it was simply a case of negotiation tactics

One possibility might be that we've agreed to sign him in Jan and Atletico might agree to cut a few million of the transfer fee as a thank you to us. Of course, the possibility that he might be cup tied for the CL might mean I'm talking bollocks

Yep, their was an article or briefing saying the deal was getting on and wouldnt be imminent, but we were confident of it happening. Cooling off or he isnt a priority target was not the case, he was throughout the saga a marquee signing.

Help us @Acquire Me! You're our only hope

I don't understand how the ban affects us. If he wants to come, and the release clause is met, it would be out of Atletico's hands.

I still expect this to happen.

Figo: In Spain we called Benitez 'píldora para dor
In regards to his buyout clause, at best we might have been able to negotiate a similar fee but in installments. However, that went out the window as soon as the ruling came in and that their transfer ban is being upheld. Cerezo might as well sack himself now if he lets Griezman go for anything else than the release clause being activated, given that the ban prevents them from having a replacement ready. Half their season would be ruined.

Not that I believe we were pinning our hopes on it anyway, AM never had much of a chance.

Antoine will want to feck off, what he´s said is that he wants to win trophies, it´s in the hands of the president etc. The ban being upheld means that Atletico will have no chance whatsoever to compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid next season.

I´m strangely confident we´re signing him.

Well maybe mourinho was never crazy about him and he wasnt his #1 choice? Sure he was interested, but it could've been more the club being interested. And besides, if we used a 4231 and had room for a #10, then Mourinho im sure would go all in for him. We dont need more #10's though, we have a few very good ones at the club and they both underperform and arent consistent because we put them on the wing as we dont have the midfield to do a 4231 properly.

Not really a fair description.

Shocking decision if this is true. Absolutely shocking and shows a worrying sign of Jose emphasizing strength and height over skill and flair.

All I can think is he waited for us to get CL, that happened. He then waited for the court ruling, and has consequently felt guilty and didn't want to hurt Atletico.

We just have to be patient and see how it plays out. Could be real, could just be posturing.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks this.
You're not. I don't buy this "interest has cooled" for a second. As has already been noted by several on here, there really wouldn't have been any doubt from both clubs that the ban would be upheld given the number of Atletico's infringements, both would have been prepared for this situation. The fact that every outlet has broken this at once suggests strongly to me the media is deliberately being led up a blind alley.

Either that, or I am in denial, because if we get to September and Griezmann is not wearing red I may cry.

Jesus Christ leave the guy alone
Atleast most of the comments towards @Acquire Me have been nice today. I for one 100% believe he has a contact in the marketing department, and if that is the case if the deal was truly called off today i doubt his contact would know about it yet.

More than likely the deal is still on and we will hear more in the coming week.

Last summer is looking like a blip in an otherwise crap record under Woodward. We always seem so reactive in the transfer market, like we don't truly have a solid plan.

People want to mention it only being June 1st but we hear that every year and it generally rumbles on till the end, by which point the "calm down" crowd are going ballistic themselves
In Woody's second summer with lvg he signed Darmian, Schweinsteiger, schneiderlin and Depay before pre season

The Txiki who signed Navas, Jovetic, Negredo, Demichelis, Fernando, Sagna, Mangala, Bony, Otamendi, Bravo and Nolito? I'm not sure we're dealing with a mastermind there, either.

I was referring to speed of delivery mate.

Yes, he has surely recruited some expensive flops like some of the ones you listed but you should look at the whole picture and not just the bad spots.

Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o, Thierry Henry, David Villa, Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Jesus, are also some of those he has recruited. Not to mention Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola. Not a bad list at all.

I do like Mr. Woodward though, so no intention to spite him.

It's Jose, I'm not sure why you would be surprised about that. He aint going to change just because he is Utd manager.
