We had one last year and it wasn't enough. I don't see why replacing him with an inferior version would suddenly change anything.
Ye, wasn't genuinely asking you dude, was rhetorical.It's just so fecking frustrating, signing players like Lukaku over Griezmann is exactly why we are in this position in the first place. To see City strengthening with top players like Silva, being linked to other top players, taking into account how superior their attack is to ours already, while we are apparently cooling interest in the one World Class player available this summer is just gutting.
We've got one of the worst, if not the worst attack out of the top 6, signing one of the World's best players could maybe be a remedy for that. Whatever though, what do I know, I'm just a fan after all.
Whatever happens though, Jose has no excuses next season, if his signings don't bring in trophies, he should be judged accordingly.
We are in this situation because two summers ago we would sign Griezmann instead of lukaku. Don't get me wrong Griezmann is the better player but we still don't have a nine. We would be like Arsenal they have Sanchez who bangs them in but have no nine to add to what Sanchez brings.

How do you know United didn't go in for Aubameyang? He may just prefer PSG and there is not a lot that can be done about that. The last thing you want is signing a player for big money who is coming under duress and doesn't really want to be at the club.

You do know that basically once we start negotiating with a team and/or player/agent they will be aware that we want a #9, so whether they know now or when negotiations start, it will all be the same. I mean you don't start trying to buy players you don't want right?

I think the fans would be understanding that the club put a lot of time into something that might have come off, especially if that thing was signing a top class player like Griezmann.
We've played with 2 up top under Mourinho in a 4231 enough times too if I may add. Infact we went into last season starting with Zlatan and Rooney up top IIRC, before Mourinho started to bench Rooney indefinitely.

Probably last summer. I don't keep track of the them all, but there are no media outlets that do not report rumors or take one bit of info and add spin to it. IE due to the transfer ban things are less likely to happen, then some journo adds his own spin saying it has to do with Zlatan's injury and viola.
Reading the article on their main page, it really is just repeating what everyone else is saying, which may or may not be true.

I share this theory and it makes absolute sense. Griezmann looks like a really cool team guy and I have heard this confirmed a few times. I knew that if the ban was upheld then case closed for now. He certainly wants to come to United but not at any cost whatsoever. He's already a legend at Atletico, why would he want to walk away, hurt them and spoil his legacy? For some, football is not just all about money.
I also think the payment plan could be a second factor here. Atletico will be desperate to get paid one time right now and that is easy to understand. They are building and they can't register players now. If I am negotiating for player A and I know you have lost your star man to another club and you can't register player A now, I will squeeze the life out of that negotiation. Atletico will be extremely vulnerable if Griezmann leaves right now and this vulnerability will go beyond team performance in the absence of Griezmann to lacking aces in transfer negotiations.

Griezmann has a release clause which means he is easy to get but our #9 targets don't so we have no concrete idea which one we will end up with. And not all of them would be good partners to Griezmann. Suppose we get Mbappe (still an open question and in a bidding war with the player consulting everyone around him), that would cost a lot more than Morata and leave little money for our other positions and he wouldn't be a natural partner for Griezmann. Whereas if we landed Morata then he would be cheap and blend well with Griezmann. Hence one must settle that question first.

That is probably closer to the truth. Though it might also be that some journo's have jumped on the fact that he will stay one more season and added their own spin to it, as it creates a lot of discussion, generates clicks, etc. More so than just saying, "He is staying because of the transfer ban."

Lukaku is a lot more mobile than Ibra and is just as powerful as well as being a goalscorer. Maybe the mobility allows more scope in Joses vision?
