Viewing thread Antoine Griezmann - Simon Stone "Man Utd have cooled interest in Griezmann" Meltdown commences., 3 minutes ago
Well the BBC haven't sourced this independently, they've all been briefed by UTD. This doesn't really mean anything more or less that BBC are involved. If BBC walk back their story, i'll jump back on. Until someone can give me a reason why they are suddenly not to be trusted after being the gold standard, we are just perpetuating self-reinforcing delusions.
after the "embargo"How long till griezmON again? I say this evening, tomorrow morning tops.
Yes, it doesn't make sense. An alternate explanation is that the journalists have been given information that is not true.Doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
The club and Mourinho knew the extent of Zlatan's injury around 6 weeks ago.
What has suddenly happened in the last couple of days that we weren't previously aware of?
You don't follow a target all season who is according to all reputable sources, the number one priority, then get cold feet before the window opens and claim he's no longer a priority.
Amateurish stuff from the club and Mourinho. Thought we'd got rid of this baffoonery after Woodward and Moyes first season.
There aren't that many quality ones available though. Only Belotti and Lukaku.I'd rather have a proper striker anyway.

Ye, wasn't genuinely asking you dude, was rhetorical. It's just so fecking frustrating, signing players like Lukaku over Griezmann is exactly why we are in this position in the first place. To see City strengthening with top players like Silva, being linked to other top players, taking into account how superior their attack is to ours already, while we are apparently cooling interest in the one World Class player available this summer is just gutting.
We've got one of the worst, if not the worst attack out of the top 6, signing one of the World's best players could maybe be a remedy for that. Whatever though, what do I know, I'm just a fan after all.
Whatever happens though, Jose has no excuses next season, if his signings don't bring in trophies, he should be judged accordingly.
Mbappe? There aren't that many quality ones available though. Only Belotti and Lukaku.

How do you know United didn't go in for Aubameyang? He may just prefer PSG and there is not a lot that can be done about that. The last thing you want is signing a player for big money who is coming under duress and doesn't really want to be at the club.Wanting Morata and missing Aubameyang, what's up with Mou and Ed? Reminds me of Ed and Moyesey.
Alternate explanation is that the journo are all reacting to the same rumor that has no basis in fact what so ever.
Why would we make it clear that #9 is the priority though? Doesn't help our negotiations on that front.
You know what I meant
I think the fans would be understanding that the club put a lot of time into something that might have come off, especially if that thing was signing a top class player like Griezmann. My guess is to save face. The unpredictable (Zlatan injury) vs the predictable (failed appeal). Fans would be giving it both barrels if they thought/knew we'd wasted time on something that hinged on the extremely unlikely event of Atleticos appeal being overturned.
We played with two strikers under Sir Alex.
Currently, we have Martial, Rashford, Mkhitaryan, Mata, Rooney and Lingard competing for 9 and 10, which is the same as what we had under Sir Alex. Lets stick to facts.
That said, it's obvious that the list above is not good enough to be challenging for the title, and it's looking likely that a few of these players will leave.
What we we need is to get a striker to replace Ibra and get a top class winger.
Yeah, let's not replace him at all....We had one last year and it wasn't enough. I don't see why replacing him with an inferior version would suddenly change anything.
When was the last time the BBC ran with a transfer article on their main page that had no basis in fact?
Getting people to talk about the club.I'll ask again, what is the perceived benefit to the club in giving out this information?

I actually think the transfer ban has made him decide to stay for one more season so Atletico isn't screwed. He has probably told us that in private, and we have respected his wishes and released this briefing so everyone can move on without anybody looking bad.
The deal may of well hinged on Griezmann being able to be replaced, if he intends to stay now breifing the media would be normal before Griezmann or Atletico do.I'll ask again, what is the perceived benefit to the club in giving out this information?
Yeah, let's not replace him at all....
Those who stopped believing so early in this journey are an embarrasmet to all other muppets!

Just had a quick search online for us 'cooling interest in Pogba' as so many are saying happened last year.
Can't find anything at all saying we ever cooled our interest. Sure there are reports saying other clubs were trying to bring him in, that they were close to getting him etc. But not one article where anyone says our interest in him had died off.
In fact I found several that openly state that we had made him the priority signing for the summer.
Why blame it on Ibra's injury? Why not just say it's due to the court's decision?
I'll ask again, what is the perceived benefit to the club in giving out this information?
Listen guys, is the news really that illogical? If Griezmann was intended to partner Zlatan then surely with his injury that needs to be re-evaluated. Griezmann has a release clause which means he is easy to get but our #9 targets don't so we have no concrete idea which one we will end up with. And not all of them would be good partners to Griezmann. Suppose we get Mbappe (still an open question and in a bidding war with the player consulting everyone around him), that would cost a lot more than Morata and leave little money for our other positions and he wouldn't be a natural partner for Griezmann. Whereas if we landed Morata then he would be cheap and blend well with Griezmann. Hence one must settle that question first.
The #9 is the key part of the attack and style of play. We won't sign any other attackers until we get the #9. Possibly not even full backs. Maybe a CB or DM at best.
After the #9 is bought then we pursue issues like #10, wingers, full backs. That may or may not include Griezmann depending on who we end up with.
With regards to the timing it may well be because all the Griezmann news had got too frothy and needed calming down when it was just one option. Only a 6/10 dependent on many factors, whereas the news had got carried away.
On the bright side, we might just get Mbappe first. But no big signing until after the Internationals.
But surely we have to wait and see how Jose wants us to set up rather than jumping to panic stations on June 1?I'm not saying that; it would just be foolish to think that a shiny new replacement would fix our goalscoring issues. These attacking flaws are much more deep rooted than that.
