Yes, 3. Will be announce transfer when buzz is at highest. In today's world, media noise and exposure, social media mentions and retweets are all free advertising in a way. It was the same with Pogba transfer.

You honestly think that your club is briefing the press for no other reason than to raise their presence on social media?

This wouldnt be an issue if we signed a long term option up front last year rather than a short term rental of an ageing mercenary

Its funny that people are in a furor over twitter ITKs and media outlets.

Have a look at Atletico's transfer ban and you would know that there was not a sliver of a chance that it was going to be lifted; they have 65 infractions whereas the next worst club has 14 infractions. Zlatan's injury isnt a new revelation, we have known about it for months.

Thanks to the obsession of being the first person to know something, fans come to conclusions on things that they have little to no information on, and use people like Di Marzio and BBC as some sort of gospel when they are snake oil salesman.

City close to making Third signing of the season. We cant even finalize our fecking targets. feck you woody.

Behave. Its June 1st. You wont last the summer if you react like this to every bit of news that comes out between now and next season.

Frankly as a club we can afford to spend a lot of money even if it means borrowing from next seasons budget.

If AG is willing to leave, we should finish this and get it done. A club our size needs players who are amongst the best in thier position. Currently we only have Pogba and DDG in that bracket. Griezmann would be a talismanic attacker who is in that category. Since when do we get a shot at these kinds of deals? A truly elite player in his prime.

A lot of people talking about strikers not being good enough (Lukaku Kane Bellowing etc). We won't find a RVN every time. Sometimes you have to settle for a very good player. It's not like we're talking about Giroud or Anichebe! The team needs a goalscorer and frankly in some of the performances last season even a Giroud would have done the trick.

Morata. You just said we need 25+ goals? Who will be getting them then?
I think Morata can develop into a big number 9 striker that we need who can get us 25+ goals. I like the strikers to be fast, he is fast, he's good in the air, he is good technically and I think his stats are not bad.

In my opinion, neither Lukaku nor Belotti are not high quality strikers that deserve 100 million. Lukaku also doesn't want to play for us, and I don't like him as a character. He's lazy and overconfident. Belotti could be a one season wonder, he is italian, and we all know the stats of italians in our league.

Griezmann has said himself that it'll be clear what'll happen "in 2 weeks" and that was over a week ago, so this shouldn't drag on either way.
is this the point when @Acquire Me's credentials are put to the test?
He remains confident that we'll sign him, so just wait to see if we sign him or not before questioning him.

Maybe they are trying to force the issue by saying they are pulling out. We will see how desperate Griezmann wants to come to us. He would have to force the issue. If Atletico have said we have to pay the full amount up front, it could be the problem as well. It would take a massive chunk out of the budget, when they were maybe expecting to pay only a proportion of the fee immediately.

Reading most the posts over the last couple of pages would make someone think United don't want Griezmann/won't sign him anymore.

You guys need to stop being so emotional - "cooled interest" means we're going for our other targets first. Take a chill pill, if we want him we'l get him.

is this the point when @Acquire Me's credentials are put to the test?
Well, one thing's for sure. If Acquire Me is indeed ITK, and I believe he is, then the signing of Griezmann should put an end to the doubts over his credibility on this forum.

All I see from this is he isn't our first and top priority. Which is probably right. We all know we need a proper top class striker. Soon as we get that done and dusted, this little fruit can come along then

Not being funny guys but @Acquire Me knows somebody in a marketing department, he won't have been privy to a decision that could have been made as recently as yesterday. Yes it "MIGHT" have been a close deal, but this court ruling has probably thrown that all away now.

Unless he hears different, then I'm sure he will update.

Maybe we will come back in for him in January/next summer, but I fear this one is dead now.

You honestly think that your club is briefing the press for no other reason than to raise their presence on social media?

100% all adds to commercial value of club which we sell on mass.

Simple formula brief media on United signing a big player = journo's and all United fans start posting about it.

Brief same media that interest has cooled = all journo and rival fans start posting about it.

Result everyone is talking about the transfer or non transfer so we get more exposure when said transfer happens.

Our commercial and marketing teams are geniuses. Look at Pogba transfer last year.

Imo this transfer will happen when internationals are over, but I have no evidence to that. Just my humble opinion.

How can you negotiate a price with a club that would much rather keep hold of him?
Like any other player. Most clubs usually want to hold on to their players but there is a price. I mean we'd much rather hold on to Rashford for example but if 100m was bid, I reckon we'd sell in a heartbeat.

If it was purely a legal matter, i.e., Atletico cannot sell players due to regulation then it is over for now. Otherwise, I see it as Atletico wanting to wring as much money as they can for a player that looks like his heart is set on leaving. We could pay up the release clause which would be moot, but obviously we don't want to.

All this is predicated on Griezmann himself wanting to come of course.

This. Our club is not the richest club in the world without a superb marketing team.

I believe that at some point during the Pogba saga, which I think was 1-2 weeks before we signed him, journalists were saying we were put off by his fee and we were focusing on other targets. Matuidi was one of them I think. It could be just to raise coverage and hype before he is announced.

Transfer ban or no transfer ban though, we should be pulling all the stops to get this guy here. If it's for nothing but the release clause then so be it.

We've switched our position due of Zlatan's injury... well.. haven't we known about that injury for the past few months?
Last title win under Sir Alex we had RvP, Rooney, Welbeck, Chicharito, Kagawa competing for 9 & 10.
Next season we're going in currently with Rashford & Martial only on the books.

Have you considered the possibility that this supposed "briefing" may be distinct from the reality of the situation?

This is fun. The media briefing makes me think that we are very close to signing Griezmann.

Obviously it could be the club playing hard ball, a bit of poker perhaps.

We've used the media before in similar circumstances, I guess we all just need to wait and see what happens.

One thing for sure is, Muppets are dropping like flies. Woody needs to do something quickly!

Rooney will rise from the ashes. The provervial phoenix.
