Look at how efficient City are at signing players. Why can't we do the same?

Maybe Ed hasn't fully learned.

United negotiation
Woodward: We'll pay 10 million under the asking price and pay the player x amount per year. They should be flattered to have United's interest. Playing for United is an honour. So there!
Agent: No Thanks!

City Negotiation
City: We'll pay the asking price and whatever salary anyone else has offered we'll pay 10% more.
Agent: Deal!

Obviously I'm alright, but it's clear we are having to change plans due to the Griezmann deal dying and I see this as panic on Utds part.
We will have a plan B, C, and D most likely. Do you really think we are that arrogant and naïve to assume we will get all our plan A targets?

Enjoy the ride! i can't believe people believe every single word written in the media...it's going to take all summer and every single day the papers will talk about it.

So let's just enjoy the ups and down

Nah, Raiola said this yesterday: ''He wants to stay in England, if he sees that he can be a valuable asset for United, then why not United?”

He also said Ibra has a lot of offers.

To think that Ibra's future would be decided somewhere in between is unlikely. I think that will take a while

He wants to stay, but he has lots of offers. To me that doesn't inspire confidence that he's staying.
If he wants to stay, then he's staying irrespective of his offers - it should be that simple.

Anything else is just agent speak to get the best offer for his client, and shouldn't be taken as any indication of intent.

So with that being said, I can understand why the club would prioritise a replacement for Ibra first.

Why do posters immediately place us into face saving etc. Im guessing a lot of you were bullied as children?
If we sign Lukaku then it's clear to me what happened. Costa can't go to Atletico due to the ban which negates Chelsea's need for Lukaku. This ruling could have given us a straight path to that signing. A proper number 9.
Picking Lukaku over Griezmann would be ridiculous. Griezmann has been top 10 players in the world for past few years whereas Lukaku has terrible first touch.

As I said in twatter thread, Atleti are locked in now squad wise. Cant sign anyone on their end which backs them into a stubborn corner, so it's stump up full amount or shut up - no negotiations. We are probably concentrating on other targets first I suppose, then see what we have in the kitty remaining to go back to Atleti. Still think Griez will be done, just not as early as we would have thought.

Lets turn our attention to Madrid's target then. Lacazette.

And, crucially, City will pay the whole fee upfront (money is no object) whereas we will look to pay it in installments over several years with lots of add ons, caveats, etc

Plus anyone wondering why United/Woody hasn't just paid the money and sorted it in 5 minutes!

Well, because United don't want to sort it in 5 minutes, they want the entire world talking about the transfer! more attention on the club means all the commercial partners are happy.

Easy.

Txiki Begiristain vs Ed Woodward.

Go figure.
The Txiki who signed Navas, Jovetic, Negredo, Demichelis, Fernando, Sagna, Mangala, Bony, Otamendi, Bravo and Nolito? I'm not sure we're dealing with a mastermind there, either.

Is there really a point to getting our C,D targets if it won't actually improve the team.

I can tell you are a 'glass half full' person.

I think we'll get a 9 then possibly go back for him

Nope no more taxes for release clauses now. Relax people, it is just a game for media noise. Maybe tomorrow or even earlier you will hear positive news like Griezmann given permission to leave French camp or something like that.
Ok thanks, wasn't sure.

Tomorrows tweets - United think a deal can be done.

It follows the same path every time, try to read everything with a pinch of salt. Its all part of the 'game'.

Risky game though. If suddenly a Bayern or PSG enter the frame it could feck the deal and lose the player.

Jesus, I'm just making point. I don't know whether there will be a C, or D targets, but I know for sure that United will have a plan of they don't land their A targets.

What?, an out and out winger who provides crosses would not suit a target man like Lukaku? Suits him perfectly imo.
Lukaku isn't a target man, he's absolutely shite in the air. Neither of them can pass, our attacking would look very impotent, especially against lower table teams with these 2 starting.

This makes sense given the ruling. We wanna avoid paying release clause so early (meaning a lump sum having to be paid in one go).
If we can get other deals done first (and structured in a way which is over years), then we can come back to this later in the window and pretty much make it our last singing.

If we were to pay it full now, it kinda weakens our negotiating power with other teams who would look for something similar from us knowing we have the money.
Wouldn't it actually make it look like we don't have the money since we just paid 100 million euros in lump sum? Also our financial report is easily accessible to anyone so most clubs can easily assume how much cash we have without looking at our transfer dealings.

Lukaku is a goal scoring number 9.
People are dismissing the fact we need to replace Ibra. Oh we're not improving if we swap Ibra for Lukakau but the fact remains we need to replace him regardless if we sign Antoine or not.
Lukaku can spearhead a 4-3-3. If Fabinho is joining us then a midfield 3 is a must. That leaves Griezmann playing as a 9 which Jose clearly thinks can't happen or we play him inside right which doesn't solve a thing for us.
I'm trusting Jose on this one.

nah i think the timing of this leak is telling. Nearly immediately after the CAS ruling we're suddenly not interested.

Amid the latest news, both Sportbets and Ladbroke have "implied probability" of roughly 70% (adjusted down from 85% pre-latest-news) on Griezmann moving to MU.

Who is the muppet ? Caf or bookmakers ?:eek:

The god DIMarzio strikes again!!

He said a few days ago that Griezeman isnt priority and is third on our wishlist of transers.

It's going to be a long transfer window for some. Nothing is certain yet, it's the 1st of June. This will drag, people need to calm down.

That might be the case.

There's still the chance he signs, which was what I was getting at.

One thing for certain, the change of heart based on Zlatan's injury is bullshit. I know that much.

I'd be very pissed if our main signing this summer is Lukaku. His first touch is worse than Rooney's.

Surely has to be do to do with the ban? Maybe Griezmann has stated privately he would only move if ban was overturned so they could get a replacement ?

Makes no sense doing all this supposed groundwork then an hour after ban gets announced we brief the press saying we ain't interested anymore?

The ban makes the deal more complicated because as people have been saying to get rid of the jewel in the crown then they maybe are demanding the money up front to make it worth their while ?

Both sides know this so Griezmann stays a little longer.

I can understand why he is not he priority but having said that he is better than any other no 10 we have, maybe not 100 million up front better though and that's why we have decided to look elsewhere.

Rather than bring 4 in bring in 6 and improve the balance of the squad as a whole rather than a luxury? A left back, cb (or 2), dcm, cf and then a winger (or 2).

May even have to invest in a goalie.

He would have been a great buy and maybe it will still happen but in Mkhitaryan and Mata plus Rooney still not being gone we are over stacked in the no 10 role.

The worst thing we could do is spend 100 million and then struggle to fit him in (although doing the groundwork you'd think we would have planned for this).

Maybe we can't get rid of Rooney. I know I wouldn't buy him and that could hold up the outlay especially on wages.

Something odd is going on.

Yet Mbappe is not leaving and Morata is going to another club. So If griezmann is our 3rd choice, and we're not targeting him, who are we chasing?

Neither Belotti nor Lukaku are good enough. Would rather play Rashford and Martial at #9

I disagree. Martial has shown absolutely nothing under Mourinho and Rashford is far from consistent enough. There's no way we win the league with either of those up front, imo, especially as we don't have tonnes of goals coming from elsewhere at present.
