Henderson wasn't 20m by the way. Commoli came out and said none of the figures in the media are correct at the time where 13m plus Ngog and 20m were the figures circulating.

I really hope Villa sell Downing for 18-20 million so Liverpool don't turn their attention to Juan Mata.

Liverpool don't want to spend more than £15m for Downing. If Villa keep sticking the £20m figure, then they won't get any money for him. In the last three their three best players have left - Barry, Milner and now Young.

Anything above £15 million for Downing is hilarious!

So that's:

£35 mill for Carroll, £20 mill for Henderson, £20 mill for Downing?!

The world has officially gone mad.

Some Liverpool fan on Team Talk, commented on the potential transfer of Downingsyndrome to the Scouse:

"well well well, King Kenny launches another statement of intent with his bid for Downing. A "front six" of Gerrard, Adam, Downing, Kuyt, Suarez & Carroll is pretty fearsome in my opinion, with a rock solid defence of Flanagan, Carragher, Agger & Johnson. Remember folks we had the 2nd highest league points total from January to May. Ohhhhh yes, the good times are coming back to Anfield folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!.."

Sunderland claimed £20m, Liverpool claimed £16m. Probably the latter rising to the former.

He actually would be a decent player for them on the wings, a definite improvement over what's already there.

Hope Villa take them to the cleaners with the price though. They seem determined to waste money on overprived British players this summer.

What a retard. Theres not a hope in hell they'd line up with that front 6. Gerrard and Adam paired in centre midfield would be a disaster. One continually goes walkabout and the other can barely run.

Downing is a pretty decent player but. Proven in the premiership and plays in a position they've had a problem in for years. I could see him settin up a shit load of goals for Carroll as his crossing is excellent.

If Downing ends up at Arsenal then this will be the best summer ever simply because the scousers would've been rejected by almost all the players they have targeted, Young, Jones, Glichy and now possibly Downing...

He must surely be a backup option for if they can't get Mata.

Is it just me or is Sky completely going to the dogs? I don't remember baseless speculation like this a couple of years back. Downing preferring Liverpool over CL football with us? Seems unlikely.

Maybe he wants to play for a side which has British players and staff.

On the flip side, it depends which way you spin it.

He may be looking at it like moving to a team that is building vs moving to a team that could well be disintegrating where the manager refuses to invest in the areas that he blatantly needs to, and is in the process of possibly having his star players being taken away with another one threatening to leave if that happens. That's not really an attractive proposition.

CL football (for how long?) and not a rat's chance of winning any cups if Nasri and Fabregas are jumping the sinking ship. Not that you want Downing nor that he would suit you, but thought I'd put some skewed logic behind what I'd definitely be thinking if I was him.

We're getting Mata if one of Nasri of Cesc leaves. Downing is fecking shite and is right up Liverpool's street with regards to recent transfer policy.

Mata would be ideal for Arsenal, which is why Downing seems like a nonsense link. However, Liverpool are still looking to buy Mata as well and with our wage structure we would look to get some leverage. Realise we don't have CL but Commolli would have to sell the long term LFC project to him. Hopefully the likes of Reina, Torres (he told Suarez LFC was a great football club to be at on the way out - ironically) and Suso will have a word in his ear.

Also, hopefully Mata will speak with Fabregas. :)
