Zlatan Ibrahimovic

When you are comparing goals, i don't think anyone looks at the situation, or the opposition or anything. Rooney's goal was more important, but Zlantan's was the better one.

Like I said, it depends how you define "better".

But yes, if it was just which looked better / was the best technique etc then it was Zlatan all day long.

It's probably the best I've ever seen in that respect just for simply being so fecking ridiculous.

Shame he didn't have the cojones required for Barca.

Actually he did have cojones. When everyone were driving their club-sponsored Audis to the training ground he said, feck it, and took his Ferrari Enzo. He even challenged Guardiola in the dressing room, telling HIM he did not have cojones.
Guardiola eventually opted for Messi in the middle rather than Ibra, and that's that.

He through his toys out of the pram when things didn't go his way - real cojones.

Don't think so. Barca wanted him out. Not a bad decision by them considering that Messi became much better when he started playing in center, and really Ibra had virtually no chance to compete with Messi for that position.

What an honorable stand to take. He's a modern-day folk hero.

What an absolute beast of a player. He is the Swedish national team just like Maradona was Argentina. Barcelona must be kicking themselves in the matches they find it hard to score.

Actually, some revisionism there I think. Zlatan, brilliant as he is, never fitted in. Barca would be doing anything but kicking themselves because if anything he probably cost them a CL title. One could argue that he was one of the main reasons they didn't win 3 CL titles in a row. In the 09/10 season, that game against inter has to be the worst game he's ever had, they were literally playing with 10 men. He was essentially bought in to be a "plan B" for a game like that, and he failed miserably. Pique did more in 10 mins than he did all match. It was a HORRIBLE deal for them, regardless of how brilliant Ibra is.

Great goal but he still isn't as good as people make him out, his reputation seems to have gone up since last night.....

I loved him at Barca, despite it becoming apparent that he didn't fit in, and despite all the trouble with him and his agent afterwards. Say what you will about his consistency, but he really does have a knack for pulling off the extraordinary.

I would have loved to see at OT.His arrogance is like Cantona's, he knows he's better than 99% of the footballers out there and he shows it regularly

Well but that's not what happened, is it?

Barca or more specifically Pep didn't want a player whose ego was bigger then the entire club he played for and I can't say I fault him for it.

No matter how brilliant Ibrahimovic can be at times I can't say I would have relished seeing him play for us.

Especially not considering who his agent is and that he fecks off to a new club every 2-3 years.

He lost most of the "magic" he has for Serie A teams when he played for Barcelona. Certainly didnt create much. And certainly didnt score many as spectacular as he was doing in Serie A.

Because he scored every game for them. And they dont have a better striker in one Leo Messi. And dont have Spain's best ever striker playing left wing. Yeah kicking themselves... For paying so much for him

Tbf the way Rooney connected with the ball and still scored had an element of luck to it, Ibra's goal had the perfect execution.

Still 22 goals and 13 assists is very good. But not good if you have Leo who can play in that position.

Other than that, I think that he was too slow for Barca.

The crazy thing is that his bicycle kick goal overshadows a good he scored (3rd ?) where he trapped the ball on his chest and executed Hart. That was class but barely anyone mentions that goal

He certainly didn't fit in, but he wasn't the reason they didn't win the CL that year. Inter beasted them in Milan and all of Barcelona's top boys were out-fought. The reason Pique got some space was largely tactical and down to Guardiola finally sticking a second striker through the middle (Pique and Bojan) to occupy the Inter back-line. And even with all of that, it was still a wrongly disallowed goal from Bojan that kept Barcelona from reaching the final, such are the fine margins in Champions League semi-finals.

Well exactly, precious little to do with bottle.

That strike last night tells you all you need to know about Zlatan....he is a special player and a joy to watch when he is in full flow. I like him because he has the audacity to try something different, he isn't afraid to attempt a skill he knows he has the god given talent to pull off. Who cares about what type of person he is or whether he has an outrageous ego? He has scored some unbelievably good goals throughout his career and I for one appreciate a footballer who does....and at least attempts...extraordinary things on the field .....providing moments that will be remembered with clarity.

Spot on - but its interesting. Clearly Ibrahimovic has an ego, but a lot of the best players do. By all accounts Messi does what he likes at Barca and they moved him to the middle because that's what he wanted - hence David Villa being stuck out on the left side, and seemingly not overly keen on it. That's wasnt an option for Ibrahimovic who knew the game was up and moved on.

Would be interesting to know the stats but I recall around the end of the first season Messi was palying through teh middle it was the case that he had scored more goals than the season before - but the team overall had scored less. Clearly he's the main man at Barca - and of course you can see why that's the case.

Not only that goal, his all 4 goals were excellent. I can't believe how hard he hit the ball for the first one just from standing position, and not to mention that free kick, perfect execution eventough Hart could be easily blamed for it.

 The bitterness of some to even recognize a truly outstanding goal.I could imagine the response if Rooney had scored it.

Unbeliveable how people can be bitter and biased.

In la liga it was 7 assists and 16 goals. Soldado got 16 for Getafe that year. Still 7 is more than I remembered it being, I was a bit harsh. Just not as many as he's created at his best in la liga

I was meaning overall. That season he started scoring in KO in Champions too. Also in big matches (winner against Madrid). But considering the price tag is could easily be considered a failure.

Anybody got any high-res images of the goal? Needz a new wallpaper.

Best I could find I'm afraid.

Loved that, very Cantonaesque.

And that last goal was just breathtaking from a purely aesthetic standpoint, regardless of context. Pure hair-raising, chills-inducing beauty.

I'm gonna become a Zlatan fanboy on this forum and big him up as the BPITW and throw the Messi-Ronaldo debate off it's balance.

Is there any player today better than Zlatan? Sure Falcao is great and then there's Ronaldo and Messi but Zlatan has brought the business in 5 different leagues, Europe and is constantly one of the best players in international football, something Messi can't say. I reckon the Messi influence pushed him out of Barca. He was scared that there was a bigger cock in the dressing room (every meaning of that word) and had removed.

Well, Cal has a rival.

Well, Cal has a rival.

To be honest, I read it again, I think he's just taking the p*ss/joking here..

I know Snow to some extent here, he seems like a reasonable guy.. I think it was just a joke that wasn't executed as well as he would have hoped.

I would be shocked if it wasn't. :nervous:

He has scored a lot of goals and been successful at the club level, and it's not easy to get a true impression of him since the only league I watch is the Premier.

I have to admit, I never rated him, always thought he was a flat track bully. Whenever I have seen him play in the Champions League or for Sweden in meaningful games he has never really impressed. Not really sure if 4 goals against a poor England team in a friendly makes him any less of a flat track bully, but they were 4 good looking goals.

He also is playing very well for PSG at the moment and might be in the best form of his life. It's just possible I might have to change my opinion on Ibrahimovic

Flat track bully who has scored in El Classico & the Milan derby? As well as amazing goals for his country vs. France, Italy among others? Ok..

I did say the only football I watch other than the Premier is the Champions League and the World Cup or European Championship. I have seen him have good games against top competition, but for the most part he has been unimpressive when I have seen him play. I also admit he has been in great form since going to PSG and I am willing to change my opinion on him.

Of course I'm joking. It's just funny how sheepish people get sometimes. Some people didn't even rate Zlatan despite his record. He's a great player who's got a great ego. One of the 10 best players in the world but of course he isn't as good as Messi or even Ronaldo.
He was great at the Euro's, been PSG's best player since joining them, one of the best performers in the CL this season in an otherwise lackluster group, and he's always seems to be on the top of his game for Sweden which much be great as a Swede.

Like with Ronaldo (and Messi from some people) he get's unnecessary criticism at times. It's a habit some people have that I find annoying quite frankly. No reason to talk ill about a player just so your player of choice looks better in comparison. It's a negative outlook to have and doesn't have a merit when discussing the worlds best.

I just saw the goal. fecking. Hell. That is unbelievable. Better than all the "puskas" award nominees. In fact, I don't remember the last good I saw of that quality.

It's a fantastic goal, its weird why people have a problem accepting that. Its not even a player who plays for a rival as thats something people tend not to appreciate.

Brilliant goal, very good player.
