Zlatan Ibrahimovic

cracking goal but not the best overhead kick ever for me. I still prefer Trevor Sinclair's.

Look how he back off when he knew Hart was getting to it, he calculated each and every second and hit it perfectly! You can dismiss it if you like and say it wasn't important or that there was no keeper but the reason he tried it was because of that reason, this sealed a good win for his team past England. An outrageous goal and we won't see one like that again for a very long time. It looks like a few people are bitter over it, it was a great goal and you have to take it for that. Not important? Who gives a shit, look at the cnut leap into the air and connect with it like that! What a goal.

He scored an overhead kick from about 25 metres, there isn't really need to tell anything more about that.

Rooney's overhead was better.

It takes audacity to execute an overhead from a cross in the box - see Hugo Sanchez, Marco Van Basten and Ronaldinho for some of the best examples. But it requires a whole new level of audacity to do it from outside the box, particularly when he's got the time to pull it down and lob it goalwards. After all, how many players have scored overheads from outside the box? Trevor Sinclair, Rivaldo, Mauro Bressan... any others?

I've seen this a few times now. Why? Who would be bitter? England fans? In a friendly? Zlatan haters?

It was a marvellous goal, but the people painting it as possibly one of the greatest ever scored need to realise that a) they're probably a bit over-excitable at the moment and b) not everyone who doesn't think it was the single greatest piece of calculated achievement is bitter, or biased or bonkers.

Nah Rooney meant it. I get the impression Zlatan got a bit lucky with his. Still a spectacular effort though.

I scored one similar past my friend, he was the keeper and the ball was played to me via goal kick from my keeper. It bounced once and only once and I felt the opposition keeper coming towards me. I was around 20/25 yards out so I just did an overhead kick a bit like Ibrahimovics but not at the angle. It went in but what did I get for it? Nothing, just like Ibra.

Rooney meant it but his execution was shit and he got lucky (see RvP v Charlton too).

It really needs to be in a proper game to be considered a truely great goal.

Yep, and the fact that it was a friendly just adds to the other things that occured that made it a unique, almost freak like goal.

It's not the greatest goal of all time, but why sit here and try to rank these things? Let's just enjoy it for the thing of beauty that it was.

Well obviously they both meant it, after all what else would they have been attempting? An overhead coming off the ankle isn't a biggie for me - if it comes off your foot it can be driven into the ground, which always looks a lot less spectacular (much like a textbook downward header doesn't always have the same visual impact as a thumper into the roof of the net).

Meh I don't think it was physically possible for Van Persie to jump any higher for his Charlton goal, so it had to come off his shin because he couldn't get his foot high enough IIRC.

Possibly true but any shot that comes off the shin is a fluke since you don't really know where it's going to go.

Greatest goal scored against England?

Still Maradonas for me. Any other contenders?

absolutely superb goal

for him to even think about that was out of this world, never mind the actual technique required to pull it off

And?

The circumstances and the technique behind it were both better than Ibra's goal.

How on earth is the technique better than Ibras? Some people are so incredibly biased these days it's ridiculous  I've never understood why English people have always hated ibra and continued to underrate him when the rest of the world to see he has been one of the best strikers out there for the past 6ish years.

Fabulous goal on a fabulous night for him. Just a shame that this year's Puskas award nominations are already out.

So Rooney meant it but Zlatan what? Meant to knock it out for a corner?

Seriously wtf are you lot on, he meant it, he nailed it. In what bizarre world is that "getting lucky".

I've already been swarmed for daring to say the creative side of Ibra's game is better than Van Persie's.

Very excited about him when he was at Ajax, had friends who played against him when he was at Malmö FF, and they told me he’d become a world class player without a doubt. I hoped Fergie would sign him.
Got a bit disappointed the time I finally got to see him in action in one of the best game I've watched live, Sweden – Holland in Euro 2004, looked like he was not on the same level as the top class players of that time: Larsson, Ljungberg, Seedorf, Stam, Davids, Ruud, etc...and then watching CL for the next couple of years I didn’t think he was/would-become a world class player.
But hats off he is...

Arsene invited him for a trial but he said: 'If you don't know how good I am you can piss off'.
