Zlatan Ibrahimovic

I dont think its a question of doing it every match, just more than 1 or 2 matches would suffice. First game back though, you can overlook it as long as he comes good in the second leg. Another performance in the same manner or like some of his la liga matches where he missed chance after chance and then questions would need to be raised.

Can't remember who it was against but there was one game where he missed half a dozen really good chances. Messi got a hatrick and then won a pen late on and let Ibra take it to get a goal.

It was embarrasing for most of the second half as it was basically Messi doing all the work trying to set Ibra up only for him to fluff every oppurtunity.

That was Ibra at his worst, shit happens, he's not a deadly finisher, he's a magician with the ball

It's true but Zlatan gives Barca a true target man, it's something different I guess which is what Pep wanted. I'm guessing he watched their match at the bridge last season and saw a million crosses not find a target he wanted a different option in the box.

I also think Zlatan generally helps control possesion, he's been no mug for Barca and he hadn't trained during the week before playing Espanyol so I think some people are being harsh on him, but he's on of those players, he has to do it in every big game or people will question him. I guess it comes with the territory or being touted as one of the best in the world.

I don't think it's related to that. They wanted to get rid of Eto'o by any means necessary because I still see them play with plenty of crosses when they have a front three composed of dwarfs. They still play that and even more so with Maxwell crossing the ball into the box more than Abidal.
It's not a matter of looking for a target man otherwise Henry would be given more matches in the center in the absence of Ibra, I just think they wanted to get rid of Eto'o in preseason of the previous season. The season in which they had it all.Something broke up between Eto'o and Barca and it's why they got rid of him and brought in Ibra

You're probably right, I could tell things were frosty between him and Guardiola.

Listening to football weekly...Sid Lowe said that there is a stat that Ibra ran less in the Inter match than the goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

Berbatov is Usian Bolt!

I heard about that stat but I though it was a silly fecking joke! Didn't they used to say that about Fat Ronnie when he was at Madrid the lazy bastard, that's incredible.

Any player that does that in a match should refund every fan out of their own pockets.

While players such as Xavi Hernandez, Pedro and Gerard Pique covered every blade of grass in the San Siro, Ibrahimovic was immobile and ineffective until being replaced midway through the second half having run only 400m further than Victor Valdes.
Tbf, he was clearly not match fit, as he admitted after the match.

Was his first start since the 2-2 v Arsenal.

Unfit or not, it's pathetic, I remember watching Brazil live, I was literally watching Adriano walk around for most of the game, I was absolutely incensed. Sometimes players should refund people.

Interestingly, Messi ran even less (relatively speaking) and had he been taken off after the hour like Ibra would have covered substantially less distance than Valdes.

Haha, stick that up your pipe, Boss. :D

Barca's pressing high up the pitch was very average against Inter. Ibra back from injury and Messi running on empty (25 consecutive starts) must have been a factor.

Picture of Zlatans calf from the day after the Inter game. First minute he was tackled by Samuel, and this might be some of the reason he did not run as much, in addition to just coming back.

Neither Zlatan or Berba is lazy. It's just imaginary bollocks that Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime come up with to bash the players with when they've got nothing else to criticize them for.

speaking of running, just saw Zlatan dashing home to slidetackle a counter attacker

they severely lack in work rate compared to eto'o and tevez/rooney respectively. mind you i love zlatan, he is a brilliant player. the bulgarian is an extremely poor man's version of him.

A couple of Spanish papers mentioned that Zlatan was getting whistled for a few minutes before the goal. I asked someone who was there, who said, "Well, yes, but only until he scored." :D

At the end of the match the team put on these ads for Wednesday's game:

"The comeback. Come on Wednesday at 8 - wear your shirt."

Tough crowd at the Nou Camp.

I want to see Jose bust one out after they beat them, that said Barca very well could come back and win it

 Who's gunna bump it first

Need two with 30 to go, who do you take off...

:lol: He's better than Eto'o you know Brad. Remember how people were telling us both that countless times? Guess what? Eto'o is direct but more often than not, that's what you need. Before anyone says, Eto'o hasn't done much, look at what he did last season in that Barca team that Zlatan is struggling to make an impact in.

Pique - the new improved Zlatan!

And at less than a tenth the price.

At least Berba offers something outside the box. This guy is woeful.

Yep. Another Zlatan day at the office.

Could you imagine Rooney, Torres or Villa up front for Barcelona?

Zlatan or Berbatov up front in a front 3? Simply not as useful. Its not about not being good players but I think everyone is starting to see why they are not the right players for that role in the best teams. Its not about being lazy, they just dont occupy the defenders like the best strikers - leaving space for your other good players to take advantage of. This season its mostly a case of "stop Messi scoring" and you have a good chance against Barcelona. Last season it was "Stop Messi scoring, but forget about Eto'o at your peril".

players like eto'o and rooney are not only better strikers but also work like dogs.

players like the swede and the bulgarian are garden footballers.

the difference is, barca will feck off the swede probably whilst we are stuck with our disaster.
