Some of the replies in here. We're not in a position to turn down this level of player. Those of you who didn't care about qualifying CL are now reaping the seeds of that.

We're going to have to pay a fortune all through the summer for our intended targets now that the CL isn't a carrot we can dangle. And naming the best of the best strikers is pointless because there's a slim chance they will come here until we are force once again.

Ibrahimovic is a level above what we're currently entitled to, ergo, we should be bloody grateful he'll come here.

Exactly, how can anyone say no? What are the alternatives?

The truth is that everyone was just as convinced that Falcao and Schweinsteiger would be a success. Signings like these are always a roll of the dice because they're not getting any better at their age and have never played in the league.

Personally i think he'd do ok but I'm not convinced he'd be as godlike as some make out and i don't think he's the ideal type of striker I'd pair up with Rashford or Martial.

I'm excited at the prospect of him joining, just not as much as some on here. :wenger:
This is exactly where I am too.

Also, I accept I have seen less of him than a lot of other people on here. But I think defenders in England are better than in France and he isnt going to shine anything like as brightly.

But he doesnt need to to be a success. He'll improve us, both on the pitch and as an example off it, and that's what counts. So its all good.

Yes, those are the exact two reasons that I can't get excited about this signing (if it happens) - for me, anything he contributes is a bonus

He's done well when PSG have faced top prem opposition. The big difference between him and Schweinsteiger is Ibra is coming off the best year of his career and isn't an injury casualty as the likes of Schweini and Falcao were. A one year deal with an option for a 2nd is therefore ideal.

Makes sense, in either circumstance like others have mentioned he's still an improvement on the inexperienced Rashford/ Martial and Ashley fecking Young.

I think we're getting him on the basis of what he can offer us beyond the initial year in the form of coaching and the youngsters learning off him, in my opinion. He'll be more than just another striker.

I'm just having a hard time seeing how he'd be able to cope with teams that will camp in the box and swarm around him, without the legs to get away. Remember, even a post-ACL Falcao was producing the goods on a regular basis in the French league.

He got 2 in 3 for Monaco before joining us post-ACL, one of which was a penalty. Not exactly regular!

Both of those had known fitness problems. One was injured for 7 months and the other has knee problems

Ibrahimovic has just played 50 games last season

But both of those guy came in with terrible injury records, Zlatan doesn't have this issue and hasn't shown any sign of decline.

On the other hand, Zlatan holding up the ball as Martial and Rashford bursts through from behind with their pace and Zlatan's vision... No one is better than Zlatan to hold the ball. I actually believe that would be completely sick.

I love Zlatan i would absolutley take him in a hartbeat to United, but like pointed out the only concern is his age. 34 is not very young, and he will be 37 next year.
There is no question what so ever about his ability thought, and he keeps very fit for a 39 year old.
And if its any truth in the rumors about him playing a part with the coaching too, that would be great. Zlatan is the same age as Giggs, so he got alot of experience.
Then maybe after 5 years, he will take over United after Mourinho. As Zlatan will be as old as Mourinho is now it seems like the natural thing to do.

So i am all for it. Even with the high salary and the fact that we probably will have to pay for his funural and tombstone to.

The posts about his age here

Fun to know now that when a player is on the wrong side of 30, they are on the way down despite having the best season ever.

Ibrahimovic didn't play every game in a hard league like Rooney did when he was 18, so he's got more years in him than Rooney has left I'm quite sure.

How on earth? 40 in 2 years time?

Nail on the head there buddy.

Can you imagine what Zlatan's reaction would've been when the team bus was being attacked ahead of arguably our most important game of the PL season at WH and seeing the likes of Lingard dicking around and taking selfies?

We have a young and immature squad, Zlatan is the kind of guy that will act as a leader on and off it. He's been there, done it and got the T-shirt.

Both of those have been regularly injured, especially late in their careers. AFAIK Ibra has been fit and healthy for most of his career, only having minor muscle injuries. Even if he was less mobile like Falcao, atleast he has height and weight on his side. Falcao was supposed to be good at holding the ball up like Tevez, but he failed badly at that too.

He turns 35 in October.. how many strikers aged 35 who have never played in the PL moved here at that age and did well?
Yes, people who are 34 tend to turn 35 sometime in the following year.

How many strikers having scored 50 odd goals the previous season have moved to the PL and not done well?

People keep saying "how many strikers have moved to the PL at that age and done well" - how many have made the move at that age at all?

Plus how many were Zlatan?

I'm not worried about Zlatan's age at all. Yeah, his wages are high but he comes on a free transfer, so the outlay isn't that extravagant for a club like United. As it has been touched upon, it will also take the burden and limelight a bit off Martial and Rashford.

If he produces only one very good season then it will have been a great piece of business, very much like RvP.
