He's been absolutely awful so far to be honest, still want him though

He obviously wants the Euros over with quickly so he can sign for United as soon as possible. That whole knockout stage lark is an unnecessary hurdle on the way to fulfilling his childhood dream.

Hardly had a kick so far. If he signs, hopefully days like this will be few and far between. Of course, up to us to make sure he isn't completely isolated up front like he is here.

Now that LvG is gone there isn't a team in the league that is as chronically wank at providing strikers with service as this Sweden team, so I think he'll be fine.

Can't see him playing for Wolves to be honest.

Yes I'm a wolves fan but United too obviously, though if he fancies a challenge I'm sure I can find him a house in Wolverhampton

Hope you guys sign him to be honest. Your very ill suited to getting the best out of him and I see it ending in tears. Looking at the players your being linked with Pogba,Matic,Gomes,Pjanic etc... Suggests to me Mourinho see's Rooney as his number 10.

So that's Rooney behind Ibrahimovic potentially as your front two. Then there's the lack of pace outwide you guys have bar Martial, If I'm not mistaken you haven't been seriously linked with a winger so maybe Mourinho is happy with his options in lingard,Januzaj and potentially Valencia?A Martial/Rooney/Lingard front three behind Ibrahimovic isn't going to get the best out of him.

He has a good thing at PSG not only does he play for the best team in the league by far he also plays with multiple excellent players and their squad makeup suits him perfectly. Look at their standard front 6 Motta/Verrati/Matuidi Cavani/Ibra/Di Maria. In midfield you have Matuidi who will bomb forward when Zlatan drops deep to join in with build up, when that occurs Cavani will then fill in that central striker position; then there's also Verrati who progresses play between the lines at an extremely high level so hes regularly on the ball and then Di Maria who's a stunning crosser of the ball and his relationship with Ibra was evident with him giving him over 8 assists alone.

Compare that to United and the situations are very different. That's without even getting into the physical deterioration that's bound to happen sooner or later.

Can't see us playing with a #10 if we sign Zlatan, rather a 3-man midfield. Zlatan likes to drop deep.

BILD linking us with Mkhitaryan, few reports on Embolo.

You make some valid points, however the United of the past three seasons won't be the United under Mourinho. It'll a functioning team that scores goals. First time since SAF that we've had a genuinely world class manager, and I reckon he's almost certainly going to bring in another winger.

In fairness I don't think he's actually wrong, hopefully Jose is also bringing in a couple of creative players that can craft chances and make the supporting runs for his hold-up play, otherwise he's gonna struggle if isolated as he's not going to press and harry a defense into errors or get in behind them with blistering pace.

So we shouldn't get a quality player because we don't have enough quality players already? Is that your point because other than that, you make 2 points about the style. A CM that bombs forward in Matuidi and a Cavani who takes up the striker's role when Ibra drops deep, we have players for both roles. The rest of your post is about quality in the squad with the likes of Di Maria and Verratti. Not signing Ibra isn't going to make Valencia a Di Maria and neither is it going to make Fellaini a Verratti.

You do realize that Ibra is no longer under contract with PSG and has confirmed himself multiple times, officially, that he will not be returning to PSG. Maybe you should have gotten in touch with him about how well he had it there prior to him deciding to leave instead of breaking it down for us pitiful souls?

Him in the team will kill the possibility of speedy counter attacks, just as it happened with Berbatov in.

The problems he mentions in terms of lack of quality players of Di Maria and Verratti's ilk are absolutely no reason to not sign a quality player in Ibra. Regardless of who we buy, we need to improve those areas. Not signing a top player because we don't have enough of those already is just stupid. As far as the roles matuidi and Cavani play, we have players that play those roles, them not being as good is another matter and brings us back to point 1.

Christ. Mourinho has only been our manager for 2 weeks. Are you that worried?

He does make some valid points. We are in trouble if Mourinho plans on playing Rooney behind Ibrahimovic.

Most his posts are fishing for a reaction I've noticed.

I just checked it, almost all of his posts are either crapping on existing United players in a condescending tone or massively playing down the abilities of the players we are linked with. He has made very few posts about the club he supports.

Must be quaking in his boots :D

Where did I say not to sign him? The fact is he'll be 35 and on a one season contract, if we don't intend to bring in the pieces to fit with him and thus get the most out of him it is pretty stupid, but as I said, hopefully Jose has a couple of other attackers up his sleeve.

He said the fact that we are looking to sign Pogba, Gomes Pjanic means that Rooney will play number 10..i fail to understand why he thinks that, if anything it shows we will play 433 or put Rooney further back to allow one of those players a free role.

Not talking about you, what I'm saying is based on Luke's post which you said made sense.

I'm pretty sure that's how it will be to start off unfortunately. Hopefully Mourinho has the balls to drop Rooney when he inevitably shows he isn't good enough anymore

Agree, I don't think his post was that far off-base. If I was an opposition supporter, I wouldn't be particularly worried about a Zlatan signing in isolation without seeing the rest of Mourinho's signings. His point about PSG is that they tailored their team to provide Zlatan with ample methods of service and that his lack of mobility and defensive work is hidden by the gulf in competition within Ligue 1. I don't really have any disagreements about that. His point about Pogba/Gomes/Pjanic is that we haven't been linked to any traditional #10s, so it can be inferred that Rooney is safe. I think we're too early in silly season to make those kinds of inferences, but again, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jose started the season with Rooney in that role. I think the difference is, if it doesn't work (which I don't think it will), Jose is ruthless enough to make the necessary changes.

So the fact we haven't been linked with some winger means Mourinho is satisfied with his options in that position?
Sounds legit.
Also comparing PSG to United is strange cause we surely will get a player or two more at least.
Also you don't know if he sees Rooney as his number 10. Neither of us does.

I think the mistake is that everyone knows Rooney will be an automatic starter and assumes it will be as the #10/AM, but I think he'll play deeper in a more reserved role with a more athletic and dynamic player just ahead of him and a DM behind him, like he did for England the other night and in the last few United games where either Mata or Fellaini played the AM role and Rooney sat deeper with Carrick as the holder.

Not really. It just means our flanks have to be incredible. Shaw-Martial on one side and an equally dynamic pairing from the right makes for a nightmare and plenty of space to exploit through the middle due to the double-team Martial requires and it should be equally so from the correct signing on the right.

Being fair, if Rooney underperforms I think we can assume that he will be dropped unless Mourinho has LvG levels of favouritism. In an ideal world, Rooney returns to a level of performance we expect from him and know he's capable of.
