If the referee says he saw the incident, can they still issue a retrospective ban or is that rule still in place?

We'd be best off bringing him off. If he's not messing up every attack he's trying his best to get sent off.

He will get a ban. Referee will go along the lines of the Aguero elbow where he saw it but seeing it again he would have shown him a red card therefore no way is Zlatan going to get away with it

Yep, a perfectly rational reaction imo. Not from a team perspective of course, but definitely from a human one. If someone deliberately stamps on your head when you're on the ground, you don't just walk away as if nothing happened.

That was a deliberate elbow. Violent behavior with a 3 game ban. Cannot believe how anyone can say otherwise.
Elbowing someone in the head isn't a yellow card offense, it's violent conduct and a 3 match ban.
The best we can hope for is Friend seeing it and viewing it as accidental and that being that. Sadly because it's United the media are going to create an absolute storm over it.

This. He wasn't playing well and if it was anyone else you'd be calling for him to be replaced. The thing with Zlatan though is that, as wasteful as he's been today, you can still imagine him scoring a couple. But then towards the end he lost his head. We need to be sure that he's calm and won't do something stupid in the second half. I wouldn't take the chance - I'd bring him off.

Martial set up Zlatan with perhaps the easiest chance you will see all season. If you think anything worse than not hitting the target from 3 yards out or missing an open goal from 6 yards away, there is no point discussing this.
