Theres a thread in the United forum about it, link from the sun.

Antwerp update

Jim Ryan was at Antwerp last week, checking up on Souleymane Mamam. See picture. Unfortunately Dong is still in China - do we have any guys who have seen him?

Antwerp won again last week, and now lead the second division table.

1. Antwerp 7 6 1 0 16 6 18
2. Tubize 7 5 1 1 15 8 16
3. Zulte-War. 7 5 1 1 19 8 16
4. Geel 7 4 3 0 14 9 12
5. Heusd.-Zold. 7 3 2 2 8 9 11

Dong is in Malaysia playing for China in the AFC Youth Championships.

He scored in a 1-0 victory (after coming on as a sub) over Qatar to put China in the quarters against Malaysia.

It was his first goal so far, and I think also his first appearance.

Jacqueline_S, those links of yours are last season's final tables. And as you, Vinay, might already know there are no U17's or U19's anymore! U18's and U'16's are the name of the game today.

Well I've, along with quite a few others, kinda blamed the webmaster on several occasions for not bringing us proper information about our gems... Those links of yours are perfect examples of the current state of things there. I guess there's some sort of will to protect them from getting too much attention.

And as far the "original question" goes, judging the results I'd say the U18's are doing quite well whereas the U16's aren't.

The U16's are unbeaten this year having won all their games so far

That is a disgraceful start to the season! How can they be allowed to continue to wear the red shirt! They are out of order!
;-)
However such a pity that the u-16s are only playing frendlies and no account is kept on the scores of the game or a league table.
Come on you young reds.........brandy and Nardiello will score the goals, Stevie´s son will prevent others from scoring against us!

That's correct. It is the U18's that aren't doing so well atm, right?

Dong in Asian Youth Cup & Antwerp update

Dong Fangzhuo is currently appearing in the Asian Youth tournament in Kuala Lumpar. He scored in the last group game against Qatar - after coming on as a sub - see http://www.footballasia.com/en/comps/afcu20/index.asp?id=36961&cid=1008&mth=9&yr=2004

China have today defeated Malaysia 3-0 to reach the semi finals, Dong did not score, not sure if he appeared.

Dong is fast becoming a super-sub after previously scoring four times in four games for Antwerp, all as a sub. Antwerp - with Souleymane Mamam - drew 1-1 today, to go joint top of divison 2.

1. Antwerp 8 6 1 1 17 7 19
2. Waregem 8 6 1 1 21 9 19
3. Tubize 8 5 2 1 15 10 16
4. Geel 8 5 3 0 17 11 15
5. Renaix 8 4 2 2 11 8 14

no, he didn't show up this game.

he played the 1st group game as a sub on the hour mark, wearing no 9 jersey, got a toe injury then, and rested for the 2nd one. in the 3rd game, he came on in the 53th minutes, scored the only goal 3 minutes later.

he isn't in the line-ups for this China U20 team for 2 reasons:
1. injury;
2. the team gathered early this year and won the 3rd place in the Toulon Football Festival. Done didn't come along with them at that time, and the coach is not familiar enough with him.

Any more news on the Pontins game tonight?
I heared that it was 1-1 and still being played. Rossi scored after 2 mins. Richardson, Eagles, Bellion and Ricardo playing.
Does someone have more info?

posted later on for those who also wandered:
At last:
Manchester United: Ricardo, Phil Picken, Jonathan Spector, Gerard Pique, Ben Collett, Floribert Ngalula, Chris Eagles, Markus Neumayr, David Bellion, Giuseppe Rossi, Kieran Richardson. Subs: Steven Hogg, Tom Heaton, Adam Eckersley, Colin Heath, David Poole.

It ended 1-1.

Good news that Hogg is back. Was he injured? He hasn´t played yet this season. I thought Heaton had a international call up this week, but seems he was allowed to be on the bench, since Lee is injured.

Clarets Halt Reserves' Perfect Start

The Reserves' 100% start to the Pontins League season was ended by an entertaining 1-1 home draw against Burnley.

United got off to the perfect start as Guiseppe Rossi converted Chris Eagles' pinpoint cross from close range after just three minutes.

Burnley came close to equalising when Neil Trotman hit the bar after 20 minutes, and did eventually pull level through Alex Taylor's low shot ten minutes after half-time.

Both Eagles and Kieran Richardson were full of graft throughout, but Floribert N'Galula stood out as United's star man in an enjoyable encounter.

PARS TRIAL DUO

Dunfermline have handed a trial Graeme Port.

The 18-year-old came through the ranks at Manchester United, and has impressed head coach Davie Hay at Dunfermline.

The Pars will also have a prolonged look at 19-year-old Stephen Bradley.

Dunfermline are far from certain of landing the duo, but are keen to give them an option.

United Res 2 - 3 Birmingham res
Howard
Bellion

Once again school-boy keeping and poor defending cost United a match in which they were a class above the opposition. Good news Saha played for 70 minutes looked very sharped, set up 1st goal and hit woodwork. Richardson and Jones played well and Bellion scored with a good freekick. Bennett the Birningham keeper made some good saves.

England u-16

Good to hear that the talented youngsters get some recognition:

England Under-16s coach Kenny Swain has named his 18-man party to face Wales in the Victory Shield on 14 October.
The match, to kick off at 7.35 at Steabonheath Park in Llanelli, will be Swain's first experience in charge of the Under-16s since taking up his post at the end of August, and he will be looking for a positive start to his tenure.

The last time the two sides met was in last year's Victory Shield when, having already beaten Northern Ireland 4-0, England beat Wales 4-2.

A draw with Scotland in their final game saw England share the trophy with Scotland, and Swain will be looking to go one better this time around and hold the Shield outright.

Antwerp / Dong update

Antwerp lost 4-1 at home to Eupen last weekend. Souleymane Mamam played the first 45 minutes only. Antwerp now second in 2nd division table.

1. Zulte-Waregem 9 7 1 1 23 10 22
2. Antwerp 9 6 2 1 18 11 19
3. Geel 9 6 3 0 19 12 18
4. Tubize 9 5 3 1 16 12 16
5. Deinze 9 4 3 2 13 17 14

Fangzhuo Dong has not yet returned from Asia Youth tournament. China lost 2-0 to Spouth Korea in the final. Dong started the final but was replaced after 60 minutes. From the match report - "As promised, coach Yin Tiesheng gave highly-rated striker Dong Fangzhou an opportunity to play as he started a match for the first time in this tournament. However, the player who was signed by Manchester United in a blaze of publicity earlier this year was effectively shackled throughout the match by the outstanding Korean defence."

Tieseng later said that Dong had not played much in the tournament as he had not appeared to be fully fit.

two other players besides brandy was in the england u16 team. Adrian Bellamy and Ben Amos. Anybody know anything about them?.

got this from the newbie

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guiseppe Rossi was once again United's star performer as the Reserves ran out 4-1 winners over Chester City.

The Italian wonderkid made an immediate impact for United after coming on as a 64th minute substitute with two top class finishes.

For his first, the 17-year-old slotted the ball home brilliantly after a terrific one-two with Sylvan Blake in the 73rd minute, while four minutes later, after being brought down by Kevin McIntyre on the edge of the area, Rossi dusted himself down and fired home a sublime freekick.

United had earlier gone ahead through a Colin Heath penalty after just 14 minutes. Heath was brought down in the area by the Chester keeper and he coolly slotted the ball home from the spot.

Two minutes after half-time, Heath was involved again as his good work allowed Blake to fire United into a 2-0 lead.

Chester pulled one back through a diving McIntyre header in the 66th minute, but it was scant consolation for the visitors as United stretched their unbeaten Pontin's league run to seven games.

looking good

Ben Amos is a goalkeeper and Adrian Bellamy is a big black centre-back but can also play at right-back as he did during the Nike Premier Cup last August.

I watched the final of the Premier Cup against City, watch out for Sturridge that plays for them. He's a good player and should form a good partnership with Fabien if given a chance.

Anyone else notice that there isn't that many players with English sounding names? Mind you, they don't have to be English, just have to go to school in England.

Taken from match report of Leicester v Coventry

If I was a betting man, which I'm not, I think I might have had a few quid on Dion getting the first goal,' said Coventry manager Peter Reid. 'It's sod's law, isn't it? It was just a shame that Eddie Johnson couldn't win it for us at the end, because that was a fantastic bit of skill.'

Johnson received the ball with his back to goal, turned quickly and shot early, beating Kevin Pressman, but not his right-hand post.

Luke Steele also played

Just seen it on ITV, Eddie's shot was great and Steele made 2 or 3 great saves.

Antwerp update

Not much happening at the moment. Dong has not reappeared after Asia Youth Tournament. Antwerp won last weekend and are now second in 2nd division table, one point behind leaders Waregem. Souleymane Mamam came on in 2nd half. Gomez is off the radar. Very quiet on possibility of U19/U18 youngsters joining from OT. A chance missed in my opinion.

According to the official Antwerp site Dong is in Manchester, getting treatment for an injury and will be back in 2 weeks.

Johnson scored yesterday, he and Steele played the whole game.
Cooper played the last 8 min in Academias 1-0 loss on Monday. He was just back from the states, a cap?

Does anyone know if and when Bardsley will be back?

I'll post my thoughts here as either most people missed my point in the other thread.

I think in a few years we could field a team with a lot of home-grown talent without the class of '92. The question marks being left midfield and central midfield. Bardsley, Jones, N'Galula, Fletcher, Spector, Pique, McShane, Eagles, Rossi...I feel we have a lot of good young material.

That's all I wanted to say.

I think the left midfiled could be filled by 'the new Reyes' if you believe this thread in the transfer forum : https://www.redcafe.net/showthread.php?t=60754
