Mads Timm, David Jones, Giuseppi Rossi were on the scoresheet as Manchester United's reserves beat Macclesfield Town's second-string 3-1. 120 watched on at Moss Rose as the visiting Red Devils won the Pontins League Cup tie.
The Manchester United reserves opened up their Pontins League Cup campaign with a 3-1 away victory against Macclesfield Town. Strikes from Mads Timm, David Jones, Giuseppi Rossi and cancelled out an early Jassin Fayadh goal to give the victory to the visitors.
It was another impressive performance from the United second-string in front of about 120 as Moss Rose. A special mention must go to youngster Giuseppi Rossi, with the striker a pre-season acquisition who looks the business. Reports suggest the teenager could be on the verge of a first-team call-up, and his performances for the reserves would warrant a nod for the seniors.

Macclesfield Town Reserves 1-3 Manchester United Reserves
The Silkmen's Reserves were beaten 3-1 by Manchester United in the Pontin's League Cup despite Jassim Fayadh taking the lead for the Silkmen in the first half. The Silkmen got off to an excellent start by taking the lead seven minutes in. Adam Smart crossed low across the face of goal towards Ross and Rooney in the middle. Neither player could reach the pass but Jassim, following up at the far post sidefooted it home.
Tim Deasy was forced in to action to tip a powerful drive over the bar and Tommy Rooney saw a low shot deflected over. Neil Ross sent a free-kick just wide of the post before Deasy again was the hero with a brilliant double save.
But Manchester United were on level terms after 25 minutes as Madds Timm was aided by a deflection to curl a shot to the far post around Deasy's dive.
Deasy was the hero again shortly afterwards as he saved from one-on-one from Ramon Calliste but was powerless to prevent David Jones tapping home a low cross from Neumayr, who had appeared to have been offside with 9 minutes of the half to play.
The second half saw United continuing to press and deasy made another good double stop to deny Calliste and then Timm following up. The Silkmen then had an excellent chance to level terms as Rooney turned his man to run at goal, but his low shot was blocked by the 'keeper. the ball fell to Neil Ross but his first time shot flew just wide of the upright.
Andy Smart then crossed to the far post but the ball beat both the 'keeper and Steve Owens as he dived in to attempt to make contact with only the slightest touch needed.
But the visitors were 3-1 up after 77 minutes as a shot from substitute Giuseppe Rossi was blocked by Deasy only for the follow-up to fall for Calliste to knock in to the far post.
With the game nearing it's final stages, the Silkmen won a string of free kicks, one of which saw Jassim stinging the hands of Heaton in the United goal. The Silkmen are not yet out of the competition as they play Tranmere Rovers in January in a three-way League group.

He stands just 4ft 6in and started playing football seriously only a year ago. But at the age of seven, Jack Higginson is already one of the hottest properties in the game. Five Premiership clubs Manchester United, Manchester City, Bolton, Everton and Liverpool - all approached Jack's parents after scouts spotted him scoring 37 times last season for an under-eights team in his home town of Rochdale. In the end he opted for the junior squad of United, where he has scored seven goals in two games.
you must have the physique to cope with the premiership so if your good enough youre old enough arent really true. Cant really believe this, we´re discussing a 7yearold...DJH said:If you're good enough your old enough. Simple as.

Peter Reid is fast running out of superlatives for on-loan keeper Luke Steele.
Last week Reid compared the Manchester United youngster to one of his former stars, Irish international Shay Given.
And after Steele had helped the Sky Blues claim a battling draw at Sheffield United on Saturday, Reid cooed: “He’s a real diamond, and what’s more he’s English, which is great news for everyone.
“He’s got a wonderful temperament, he’s very agile and quick, he’s got the makings of a top-class keeper.” “When United agreed to let him come here I knew he was good, but I didn’t think he’d be this good - he’s an outstanding prospect.”
Steele, snapped up from Peterborough United for £500,000 in April 2002, turned 20 last month and is delighted with the opportunity to broaden his education in the Championship.
“I’m really enjoying it,” he said. “Everybody has made me feel welcome and I feel as if I’ve made an impact in the four games I’ve played so far.
“I think I’m improving as a keeper which is the main thing.
“That was my first away game and probably my busiest. I had quite a few crosses and through-balls to deal with and in the second half I had more shots than I’ve had so far but I think I dealt with them OK. “It’s a shame we didn’t get three points, but sometimes you have to look at the state of the game. With five or 10 minutes to go I don’t think we looked like winning, so we’re quite pleased to hold out for a draw.” Steele’s loan deal runs out in January, but Reid hopes that he will be able to persuade Sir Alex Ferguson to extend the arrangement. “I haven’t spoken to Sir Alex personally but United’s goalkeeping coach Tony Coton has kept in contact,” explained Steele.
“Nobody has talked to me about what might happen after the three months is up, but I would obviously be delighted to stay here and play first-team football.”
Good to see him back and playing well again after being out the whole of last season through a back injury.
I saw him play in many games throughout the 2002/03 season for United and England and have always been impressed with his authority in play ie.collecting crosses, commanding his area etc and pulling off fantastic saves with cat-like reflexes, the lad has got tremendous confidence and assurance about him too!
To me he's the best young keeper United have had in it youth ranks since probably Gary Walsh.
Keilyn27 said:Notice Pique’s hardly gotten a mention here (unlike the multiple threads raving over Rossi) , is he not as good as hyped? What’s his playing style – the cultured continental type?
