I think the left midfiled could be filled by 'the new Reyes' if you believe this thread in the transfer forum : https://www.redcafe.net/showthread.php?t=60754
I can't see him leaving Sevilla ATM, so close to breaking into the first team. Besides, it's media bollocks. Of course young talent is always welcome but I imagine he'd rather play for Sevilla's first-team than our reserves.

I'll post my thoughts here as either most people missed my point in the other thread.

I think in a few years we could field a team with a lot of home-grown talent without the class of '92. The question marks being left midfield and central midfield. Bardsley, Jones, N'Galula, Fletcher, Spector, Pique, McShane, Eagles, Rossi...I feel we have a lot of good young material.

That's all I wanted to say.

Excellent post. You said enough. Cheers.

Johnson scored v Wigan btw, HT atm 1-1

Steele is also playing, conceded the one against Alan Mahon

United / Antwerp link - good news / bad news

Royal Antwerp won yesterday to go top of the second division. Unfortunately they won without using any players at all with links to United. They won 2-1 with 29 year-old Gabriel Persa scoring both goals.

On the slightly brighter side, the reserves scored seven ... three from Souleyamne Mamam.

MANCHESTER United reserves were twice behind but fought back for a point at Christie Park, Morecambe, last night.

Rovers took the lead in the 16th minute through Paul Gallagher, who clipped the ball home after taking a pass from Jonathon Douglas. It could have been two a few minutes later but United keeper Tom Heaton made a fine save to keep out Ciaran Donnelly's shot.

Then, in the 27th minute, United drew level when David Poole latched on to a defensive mistake to score off the post.

Former United Academy scholar Jemal Johnson put Rovers back in front in the 32nd minute, but Poole quickly replied to level for United.

Although the second half passed without further addition to the score, only a brilliant diving save from Rovers keeper David Yelldell prevented Colin Heath's blistering drive from proving a winner for the Reds.

Ritchie Jones on the bench? No Rossi? Is he injured?

Ben Amos is a goalkeeper and Adrian Bellamy is a big black centre-back but can also play at right-back as he did during the Nike Premier Cup last August.

'big black centre back'? could you not be a little more tactful.

Eddie Johnson and Antwerp (not connected)

Eddie Johnson scored his third in three games for Coventry on Saturday, five so far in the season.

Meanwhile Antwerp lost at home to drop to third. Only Souleymane Mamam figured. Dong is out with a back injury and Gomez with hamstrings. Antwerp now third in table.

Apparently another striker called Eddie Johnson, a yank, came on trial to United today.
Our team in a couple of years could feasibly be

------------------Howard------------------
G.Neville-----(Rio)------Howard------P.Neville
Djemba------D.Jones-----R.Jones----Djemba
--------Eddie Johnson---Eddie Johnson------

That would properly feck up opposing managers' teamtalks.

The academy drew 3-3 with Crewe at the weekend. i have no other details
Crewe scored a great free kick. One of ours scored a penalty before they scored a quick free kick and another good goal to go 3-1 up. Filho put on a sub who scored one and set up the other for Frazer Campbell for the equalizer, his 8th of the season. Sorry I'm not so good with names.

Not a good day for Luke Steele and Eddie Johnson. Coventry lost 3-0 at Leicester.
Aye. I dont think Johnson played, one the last Leicester goal was the only one where Steele could be blamed. On a corner he came out to punch but didnt get to it in time and it was headed in.

Rossi Handed Squad Number
Young Reds prospect Giuseppe Rossi could be handed his United debut on Wednesday against Crystal Palace after being given a squad number on Tuesday. Rossi, a summer signing from Italian side Parma, only signed professional forms at Old Trafford last week.
As Ferguson again looks to blood some youngsters in the Carling Cup - he gave debuts to Gerard Pique and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake in the last round against Crewe - Rossi looks set to benefit from his first appearance for the Reds. Rossi can play in an attacking midfield role or up front, and has put in some exciting performances for United's Reserves this term, registering a number impressive goals.

he can play both roles.

he's promidantly up front but he can play attacking midfield role

Well I've watched him a lot this season and I think he's defo a forward, his finishing would be wasted in the midfield. I've heard a few people say he can play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger but I've not seen any evidence of this. Surely he could play there if required but it's clear as day to me his best position is centre forward (More Rooney style than Ruud style though.).

johnson is a pretty good young player, physically has all of the skills (pace, size, speed) to succeed, pretty good finisher but still needs to work on his game

already scored 4 in two international games, both as a substitute. Had a hat trick in 30 minutes against panama.

doubtful he will end up signing for us, can't get a WP.

as soembody pointed out we could always send him to antwerpen or sporting

If anyone is interested the junior reserves beat Macclesfield 4-1. I can only find 1 brief report using newsnow.co.uk and all it says is that Lee Martin, 2 pens and a David Fox (Must be back from his loan spell.) goals sealed the win for us.

After the Lord Mayor's Parade - the scoreline rather flattered the visitors from Trafford as the referee gave them the benefit of two penalties. Michael Briscoe scored a late consolation for the Silkmen, but it was too late.

A cold wintry afternoon at the Moss Rose for the Pontin's Holidays League encounter between Macclesfield Town Reserves and the Manchester United Third Team. Macc lined up with Wilson in goal, a defence of Ndiwa, Briscoe and Teague. Midfield of Captain Carr, Moogan, Morgan, Jones and Smart and Owens and Rooney up front. Neil Ross has now departed and Jassim Fayadh returned to Iraq for compassionate reasons. Macclesfield still included Brian Moogan in midfield and the new triallist Kangana Ndiwa, who spent a year at Bolton Wanderers which included loan periods at Oldham Athletic and Rochdale.

There was an early chance for Smart as Owens and Rooney linked up and Rooney could have shot but unselfishly set up Smart who was in space, but Smart's shot went wide. The excellent Moss Rose pitch suited the visitor's attractive passing style and with the Macc defence sitting back, there was plenty to admire. The Silkmen's more direct style was soon under control by the visitors with Howard and Tierney dealing with the big ball forward for Rooney.

On 10 minutes, Calliste? broke down the left for the visitors, beat Ndiwa and found R Jones?, his shot producing a fine full length diving save from Wilson. Then it was Timm making a mazy run and shot that was wide. The two wide players for Macc were finding space and it was Smart on the left putting in a fine cross that Carr on the back post couldn't quite turn in as a defender got the ball away for a corner.

As Morgan slipped, a Man Utd player got forward into the space and shot wide. Then it was Neumayr trying a run and cut inside for a shot straight at Wilson. Macc then broke forward with Carr running with the ball but his pass was bad which summed up the Silkmen at this point as they were just not getting their passes to a blue shirt.

On 23 minutes, Moogan, Carr and Morgan worked together to set up Carr but his shot was blocked. Three minutes later and it was Owens on the right and working with Moogan before putting a ball in for Rooney. His knock in was goal bound, but was stopped by a keeper's leg and the ball was got away by the visitors. R Jones and Tierney having a little difference of opinion that Rooney had to break up and the referee spoke to the two teammates.

On 30 minutes there was a long ball forward by the visitors and Timm was allowed to run on for it, but Teague managed to do just enough to put the Man Utd player off and Wilson then was able to block Timm's shot. At the other end Owens was causing the danger making space and feeding Carr down the right, but his ball in was too near Heaton.

On 33 minutes, the visitors took the lead. LEE MARTIN was given too much space and time and he was able to pick his spot and put in an fine unstoppable shot past Wilson. Five minutes later and a good ball in from the right for the visitors found Timm with a free header but he couldn't connect fully and the ball went wide.

Just before half-time, the visitors doubled their lead. Djordjic was on goal and produced a good blocking save from Wilson. The ball was not cleared well and as the visitors worked it back into the Macc penalty area, an infringement occurred and the ref pointed to the penalty spot. R Jones stepped up and scored and the ref ordered it retaken. Second time it was converted again and this time the ref indicated goal.

Into the second half and Macc started to press forward. On 49 minutes and Carr in a good position but he wanted too much time and went down clutching his leg under pressure but the ref was unimpressed. Two minutes later and Macc did get the ball into the visitor's goal. Morgan collecting an uncleared ball and cutting inside before beating Heaton, but the ref had spotted something and the goal wasn't given.

On 56 minutes and Rooney found space and a shot on goal produced a good one armed save from Heaton. 61 minutes and Timm was allowed to run through and beat Wilson, but Teague saved on the line. Then it was Rooney breaking through and closing in on goal with two defenders breathing down his neck, he was unable to get his shot on goal to his frustration. Macc made their first substitution, bringing on another triallist Misbah for Morgan. Misbah went upfront as Macc went with three front men. 6 minutes later and the second substitution was made as Bailey came on for Ndiwa. Bailey was nearly straight into the action, J Jones getting a corner. Macc were now pressing forward with numbers. A cross in from a free-kick found Teague but his header was wide. 2 minutes later a similar situation reulted in Teague heading wide again.

On 75 minutes and DAVID FOX down the right for the visitors was allowed to run on unmarked and a fine cross goal shot beat Wilson for the third goal for the visitors. Five minutes later and Brackenridge came on for Morgan. 83 minutes and Macc did manage to get a consolation. A shot in from J Jones? on the right was only parried and with two Macc players after the ball, MICHAEL BRISCOE was able to force it over the line with a header.

The game continued to ebb and flow and there was a late chance for the visitors as Wilson had to get off his line quickly to block the ball and took a boot. At the other end Carr tried with a long range effort, but Heaton saved. Then as full time approached, the visitors got forward in numbers and although the chance was stopped as the ball ran free a challenge from a Macc player resulted in the ref pointing to the penalty spot again, MARKUS NEUMAYR making no mistake.

The two triallist were both big lads with obvious abilities who got into the game, but perhaps this wasn't the game to make judgements.

Ref: R L Shoebridge
Attendance: I'd say about 120 again
All times approximate.

Owens and Rooney up front!

Ritchie Jones and Paul Tierney having to be seperated. :nono:

Thanks for posting the report.

Is Spector around?

Quick question... is Jon Spector currently in Manchester?

Reason I ask... the USA has a qualifying match next week versus Jamaica... and the camp roster hasn't been published... however there have been some teasers.

Supposedly there is an uncapped defender from England in camp...
While this could be 1 of 5 young Americans... I was guessing it was Spector.

If anyone knows if Jon is still in England... then Ill have to rethink...

Thanks.

The American Ed Johnson is 20 years old.
He's an up and comer... but this is just training... not a trial - unless the sources here in the states are wrong.

He's young and had a good year in MLS - and a couple good sub appearances for the national team... but could still use some polishing.
Definitely not ready for Man Utd yet - though maybe with the reserves he could put Bellion on the sideline.

Anyone has any latest update on Dong Fangzhuo? Is he still recovering from injury? Been out of action for almost 2 months!

This talented boy has improved a lot, many good things are said about him and he has been pretty impressive for Antwerp this season, 5 goals in 6 games, league and cup(all as sub).

Hope he keeps improving and continues to shine and fight for his chance to break into United's lineup in the future.
