Youth Reports 05/06 & 06/07 & 07/08 seasons

Remember Chris Backhouse my son played for the U16 last season before being released and ending up at Sunderland. He'll be in the Sunderland Youth cup squad and hopefully play and show why Manchester should not have released him.

I hope he does really well, but I hope the others in his team doesn´t play that well and we do our best so we will be not in big trouble!

i don't fancy this arragement, the standard of Tweede Klasse is not very good, though Andy Welsch will be helpful for the developing of Adam, Lee and Richie.

hopefully the trio can come back as improved players.

Hope that Adam Eckersly can quickly progress to first team squad....I cringe whenever I see O Shea on the pitch at full back (and even more at centre midfield). this lad seems pretty quick, gets stuck in & doesnt lumber around like Sheasy. Would reckon that he can be a better understudy to Heinze rather than O SHea

I hope Lee Martin will prove his talent in Antwerp, and then get a chance in our first team next season..

But is it better to play in the second best Belgium league, than in the Championsship.?? I don't think so.

It could well be that there's no club in the championship that is ready to take him. Or that he would get more first team competitive playing time with Royal Antwerp than in Championship. Surely, SAF would be the best judge of the next phase of our young talents.

We dont have like week-by-week updates on how our youngsters do out on loan?

Spector played abit for Charlton today, I'm not able to keep track of everything but anyone who doeswant to keep us posted on everyones status at this time?

For example, David Jones might be coming back or extending his stay - is he ready to play in our middle this season or what?

Daniel Galbraith

FYI

United have offered £50,000 to Hearts for the Scottish Youth International....Galbraith played for Scotland schoolboys in this years Victory Shield competition......Hearts say that they want to keep him.....the blonde haired winger from Galashiels has not yet made a decision.....

We bought David Gray from Hearts two seasons back also from Hearts.....

United's Youth Cup tie at Sunderland will be played on the 18th of January at Durham......

More info to follow......

He became the 3rd youngest player to play for the 1st team in the clubs history, also made it into the england youth side, and hes only 16. Hes a striker, a fan of the club, and also posts on a leicester message board on occasions! As to then type of player, have not a clue, but like any good young player with great talent, fearless.

Have you ever seen Ashley Chambers play, Tony?

Sorry Anders.......Leicester don't play in United's Academy group so I have never seen him play.......

By the way.....David Jones may be joining NEC Nijmegen in Holland until the end of the season........he has been recalled from Preston.....

If our boys don't get Royal Antwerp up to the main division I'll be sorely dissapointed.

How does Antwerp stand at the moment?

Why do I feel like reading something about a fecked up system in that league to decide who goes to the playoffs?

Martin and Andy Welsh (asst coach) are already at Antwerp. Martin may be eligible for the first match after the winter break, against Union St Gillois on Saturday. Eckersley and Jones will arrive next week after playing in a youth fixture for United next weekend.

There is also a possibility of a fourth United youngster joining Antwerp.

This is best news about the Antwerp - United link for years. It shows United are serious. Van Aker (head coach) is good with young players and had a great relationship with Higginbotham, O'Shea and Chadwick when they were at Antwerp (he left for Austria and returned at start of season). Antwerp's recent results are good (unbeaten in five) after crap start.

There has been a lot of speculation that Northampton Town are going to be signing a 'powerful young striker' on loan from us until the end of the season. This has been reported in the local paper of the area and they are normally accurate with their stories. They have been reporting this for a few weeks.

From this, the only people I can realy think of who fit the bill are Blake (although the 2nd Div seems below his level), Cooper or Heath (although I would not call him powerful).

The only good things in my book is that the Cobblers are my second team (my family are from there) and also that the do try to play good football (and are one of the few in that division who do).

Didn't he go on a loan to Lyn?

I am glad he has gone to an English club. It will give him a greater exposure.

On his day, Timm is an awesome talent.

Somewhat of a surprise with so many other players out on loan.......my reading of this is that Ferguson has already decided to let him go in the summer when his contract expires.....otherwise he would have watched regularly in the reserves at our place.......

His head is all wrong......Fergie hates bad attitudes.....

Todays Under 18 game

United and Bolton drew 1-1 at Carrington today. In a fairly uneventful game, United conceded a penalty against the run of play and Bolton went 1-0 up. It was definitely feeling like a case of deja vu, as we lost 0-2 to Bolton earlier in the season after dominating the play. However, after Febien Brandy came on he brightened things up and was brought down in the box himself. However, Danny Rose missed the penalty. Within 5 minutes Christy Fagan equalised and although United could have won it at the end, a draw was probably a fair result. We had loads of possession without really testing the Bolton keeper that much.

Team: Zieler, Gray, Chester, Cathcart, Shawcross, Rose, Barnes, Lee, Burns, Fagan, S. Evans Subs: Brandy for Evans, Cleverly for Burns, Puustinen (not used) Moran for Chester

As you can see, it was a fairly inexperienced side with Lea, J. Evans, Gibson, Mullan, Hewson and Campbell all not playing.

Apparently Campbell, Gibson and Evans were all training with the Reserves. Hewson has a groin strain and Michael Lea also has a knock. Neither are serious.

More News

FYI

Richie Jones and Adam Eckersley are flying out to Antwerp on Monday....Danny Simpson has a slight knock and will be joining them on Wednesday. Apparently Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is also likely to go on loan to Antwerp........

Floribert N'Galula has returned to Belgium and will stay with his family until next season. He has a bad hip injury which needs rest.

United have signed a lad from Bradford for the Academy.....don't know much more but will find out....

The Under 18's played a 'closed door' friendly against Preston North End last Wednesday at the Cliff. United won 4-1 with goals from Campbell, Fagan, Brandy and Cathcart.

More on Michael Barnes.......he has signed a contract at United after a successful trial.

Biography:

Born on 24th of June 1988, he attends Cardinal Newman High School and started playing football with Standish Juniors. He then went on to play for Chorley U/18 before being asked to join Lancaster City. He has been playing regularly for the Lancaster reserves and has appeared a couple of times in their first team. He represented Lancaster in the FA Youth Cup this season and so is ineligible to play for United this term, A Liverpool fan, a number of clubs expressed interest in Barnes after United had offered him a trial. These included Bolton, Everton, Wigan, Aston Villa and Preston. He also represents Lancashire under 18's. He is staying at his current school in order to finish his studies before moving into digs.

Still trying to get biographical info on Amos, Fagan, Brandy, Cathcart and Fagan.....

More info to follow.....

brandy is back! superb news! and with a goal too! did you watch the bolton-game, tony? did he look lively? rusty? great news anyways. fagan getting a goal aswell. maybe the strikers won't be such a problem for the youth-cup team this season after all

excellent news about brandy!!!

Tony, can you give us a brief description of the type of player michael barnes is. Who does he most resemble from united's first team?

Also, I notice you put Gray's name just after the keeper...did he play as a right back? This is david gray, correct??

Thanks for the excellent updates..keep up the good work!

it you trawl through the youth reports there is quite a bit of info on michael barnes from when he was on trial. some of it is in the newbie youth-thread if memory serves.
