Youth Reports 05/06 & 06/07 & 07/08 seasons

Still too early to tell if he'll make it but he's a very good prospect.

there is a request for some info on adrian bellamy in the newbie youth-thread. wouldn't mind knowing a bit more about him myself.

Tonight United play Sunderland away in the FA-Youth Cup.. If we win this match, Charlton will visit Old Trafford in the 5th round.

Back from the Canary Islands on a fortnights holiday. Never again, United didn´t win a game!

Saw this in the Newbie Forum (GeorgeIrwell):

Reserves goalkeeper Tommy Lee has joined Macclesfield Town on an emergency loan.
The 20-year-old stopper will ply his trade at the League Two side for just under a month, with his loan scheduled to end on February 14.
Lee becomes the 16th United player to engage in a loan deal following a flurry of activity in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, fellow Reserves David Fox and Jami Puustinen have both left United by mutual consent.

Any info on the lineup, scorers, etc?
And to whoever might've seen the game, did any of the youngsters stand out?

Sunderland Youths 1 Manchester United Youths 2 (after extra time)

A goal from United's Fabien Brandy in the 114th minute handed Sunderland FA Youth Cup heartbreak in Durham.

The Black Cats pushed their illustrious opponents all the way until the away side won it in extra-time - and even then Sunderland could have hit back.

United went ahead in the 15th minute through a debatable penalty. Trevor Carson clashed with Fraizer Campbell and the referee pointed to the spot. Sam Hewson converted with a low show.

Sunderland responded well with Liam Connolly and Craig McFarlane going close before half-time.

The Black Cats were the better side in the second half and McFarlane grabbed a deserved equaliser five minutes from time with a strike from 22 yards.

But United won it in extra-time despite Sunderland creating a couple of good chances.

Michael Liddle could have grabbed a second equaliser right at the end.

Thanks!
It was nice, 20-25°C all the time, one rainy day. Came back yesterday to -20°C. But always good to be back home. This is the best time for a sunny holiday.

United moved Cathcart to central defence to replace Evans, put David Gray at right back and put Brandy on the wing.......a little later S. Evans moved onto the wing and Brandy played up front....

Crowd 390

Contrary to some of the reports above.....United really battered Sunderland with their keeper having to make over half a dozen saves to keep United at bay. It was only when Sunderland equalised in the last few minutes of normal time did they start to pressure on. In fact Zieler didn't need to make a save until the end......United's defence was well in control and we had most of the play in extra time. Sunderland did miss two sitters though!

The links give the team line up.........but injuries as follows

Jon Evans....groin strain....came off just after half time after telling McGuinness he wanted to play....good performance!!

Other notes..

Darron Gibson.....bone graft operation on hand at Christmas ....back in training
Michael Lea.....thigh injury.....out for a while
Corry Evans.....Pinched nerve in back...out for a while
Lee Crockett.....recovered from broken collar bone...ready to return
Richard Eckersley...still struggling with back injury...out for a while

Other news......

.......Michael Barnes only signed until end of season
........Daniel Galbraith has signed.......
....further to reports earlier...United have NOT signed a lad from Bradford

Jon Evans in first half was outstanding (playing with a groin injury).....Sam Hewson and Danny Rose in midfield were strong...Shawcross was good at the back and Campbell his usual self......non-stop running and one hundred percent effort.....

Mullan and S. Evans wasted so many chances it was a crime.....Brandy should have had a hat-trick and was wasteful in front of goal.....took his winner well.......others just OK

Whatever happened with the reported signing of the Mozambique kid that Carlos spotted?

I remember reading somewhere that he will only join the Academy in August when he turns 16 - is that true, or will he be coming down earlier than that?

"One player on his way to United is Daniel Galbraith, a 15-year-old midfield player who is considered one of the finest prospects in Scotland. Heart of Midlothian have yet to agree a compensation figure for the teenager, but he is expected to move to Old Trafford when he turns 16 in August"

from a Hearts website.........I spoke with the Academy director at Sunderland on Wednesday night and he confirmed the deal had been done!

Academy on Saturday

United defeated a strong Blackburn side on Saturday with a Jamie Mullan goal in the 82nd minute.

United fielded a very young side with a number of players playing out of position......

Team: Zieler, Cleverley, S. Evans, Gray, Shawcross, Lee, Burns, Mullan, Moran, Fagan, Barnes......Subs: Campbell, Brandy, Amos

As you can see....Sean Evans played at left backa nd David Gray at centre-half!!!! Both had good games....

Danny Rose and Sam Hewson were rested after last Wednesday's Youth Cup match....and Fraizer Campbell came off the bench...

More details to follow.....

never even heard of cleverley. good name though. good result as well. by the way - how old is this adrian bellamy fella?

Were Lee and Barnes central and Mullen and Burns on the flanks?
Whom did Campbell relace?
We´re top again, playing Crewe next weekend. Any date on the youth cup yet?

Cleverley and Bellamy

I think Thomas Cleverley plays for the U16 regularly before broke into U18 team around the new year.

Adrian Bellamy was born in 1990.

Mullan and Barnes wide....Lee and Moran in the middle with Burns and Fagan up front.......

No date for FA Youth Cup tie but probably 31st January or 2nd February....

Will know more later this week.....

Thomas Cleverley played in the Nike Cup Tournament and has been playing with the Under 16's this season......been on the bench for the Under 18's a couple of times and was also included in the FA Youth Cup squad last Wednesday......

I will try to get a bio done of him.......

FA Youth Cup

United are to play Charlton Athletic on the 7th of February at Old Trafford. If United are involved in a replay against Wolves in the FA Cup, the Youth tie will be switched to Hyde.

The FA website has made the draw for the remaining rounds and should we beat Charlton, we will face an away tie at either Nottingham Forest or Manchester City........

Vidic To Make Reserves Start

New signing Nemanja Vidic will line up for the Reserves tonight as Rene Meulensteen's side travel to Sunderland.

The Serbia & Montenegro international made his first-team debut as a last-minute substitute in the Carling Cup semi-final win over Blackburn.

His inclusion by Reserves boss Rene Meulensteen will allow him to further test his match fitness, having not played a competitive 90 minutes since November.

Meulensteen's side continues to carry a threadbare appearance by virtue of 16 players being on loan at other clubs.

Vidic is partnered by Mark Howard in the centre of defence as he continues his recovery from cruciate knee ligament damage, while Academy players Phil Marsh and Kieran Lee are at full-back.

Danny Rose and Gerard Piqué line up in central midfield, with Kyle Moran and Markus Neumayr on the flanks.

Giuseppe Rossi and Fraizer Campbell continue upfront after both netting braces in the Reserves' last outing - a 5-1 win over Leeds United.

United: Steele, Marsh, K Lee, M Howard, Vidic, Rose, Neumayr, Piqué, Campbell, Rossi, Moran.
Substitutes: S Evans, Heaton, Cathcart, Gray, Brandy.

Report by Steve Bartram.

Bardsley and Solskjær are not playing so I guees they will play on Sunday.
Pique and Rossi start, so most likely they will not play on Sunday (maybe Rossi will?)
Cooper is not in the squad, so is he in the process of being loaned out?
Gibson hasn´t recovered enough yet from his injury to be in either site.
Johnny Evans must be still injured.
Marsh, Howard and Moran are living on borrowed time.

It's interesting that Pique will be playing a midfield role...I brought it up in another thread whether it would be worth trying him out in this role; even if it doesn't become his eventual position it will help improve some skillsets. With our current midfield problems, I think Fergie wants to make sure that we have as much depth as possible; Pique is far more ready for first team football than the likes of Gibson and Rose, so we could even see Pique coming on against Wolves as a DM.
