not indeed. obviously Kenny is not that tall, and he rarely scores by using his head.

I think he's got decent pace, too.

Freescoring Reds Remain Top Of The League

FA Academy Premier League (North)
Manchester United 4
Wolves 0
Saturday 10 December, Carrington

United's under-18s continued their rich vein of form on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Wolves.

The victory is their fifth consecutive league win - the sixth without defeat - and means they will return from the winter break in January as league leaders.

Danny Rose has been in fine goalscoring form recently, and it took just nine minutes for the 17-year-old midfielder to grab his fourth goal in three games to United on their way.

However, United could not build on their early breakthrough until two minutes after half-time.

Fraizer Campbell, 18, found the net with his sixth goal in five games to make it 2-0 to the Reds.

Two late goals from Sam Hewson and Sean Evans ensured another victory for Paul McGuinness' side.

It means United have scored 22 goals in their last five league games and keeps them above Blackburn in the league due to the Reds' superior goal difference.

The Under-18s do not resume league duties until 7 January when they take on Bolton at Carrington.

But before the Reds youngsters sign off for the festive period, they take on Birmingham in the FA Youth Cup third round on Thursday.

The match, at Birmingham's St Andrews stadium, kicks off at 7pm and will be shown live on MUTV.

United: Zieler, Lee K., Cathcart, Evans J., Lea M., Gray, Rose (Evans C, 46), Gibson (Mullan, 46), Hewson, Evans S., Campbell (Burns 60).
Subs not used: Fagan , Chester.

looking at that team i figure we should do well in the youth cup this year. zieler, cathcart, j evans, gray, rose, gibson and campbell are all highly rated, and the rest seem class aswell. might go all the way again this year

Little light on the striker front.
Having Brandy would be fine!

got a point there, reverend, but campbell is ace and burns is back playing again. gray can do a job upfront aswell. when will brandy be back anyways? he was already on the stairmaster a few months ago, so he'll probably be back for quite a few games.

Key with this team at the moment is that the midfielders are scoring freely.....Sean Evans, Danny Rose and Sam Hewson have all hit the net recently.....I will be going to Birmingham tomorrow night for the FA Youth Cup tie....let's hope we can get a good result.....Birmingham are third in their league but have lost just as many as they have won......if we win we will play Sunderland away in the next round........

FA Youth Cup result

Fot those of you without MUTV......I went to the 3rd round tie at Birmingham last night where United won comfortably 2-0 with two Sean Evans goals.

The United team lined up: Zieler, Lee, Lea, Cathcart, J. Evans, Gibson, Gray, Hewson, Campbell, S. Evans, Rose. Subs: Mullan (8), Amos, Burns (9), Shawcross, C. Evans (7)

United dominated the tie with Cathcart and captain Jonny Evans particularly impressive in central defence. Zieler hardly had a save to make and the United midfield, although starting slowly, finally got their passing game together and the Birmingham side were mainly on the back foot. S. Evans scored his first goal shortly before half time after good work from David Gray on the right wing who cleverly beat his man and pulled the ball back for Sean to hit the net from just inside the box.

Danny Rose was playing on the left side of midfield but moved into the centre when Mullan replaced Hewson. With Mullan playing wide left, Rose started to dictate play along with Gibson. Rose had an excellent game keeping the game ticking over with simple movement and never giving the ball away. Fraizer Campbell worked his socks off with tireless running and United deservedly took a 2-0 lead when Evans scored his second from a tight angle after running on to a through ball. He was a constant thorn for the Birmingham defence and could easily have scored three or four.

In the last 15 minutes, United dominated proceedings and could have won by a larger margin if all our chances had been taken. Towards the end, Irish Schoolboy Corry Evans replaced David Gray and at only 15 years and 137 days old.....became one of the youngest players to appear in our Youth team. Certainly one of the youngest for many years.....

Players of note last night included Cathcart, J. Evans (man of the match!), Rose and S. Evans.....

We now play Sunderland away in the next round in mid January...date to be confirmed.....

Mads Timm

FYI.....

Mads was at Carrington last Saturday training with some of the injured players so has obviously returned from Lyn in Oslo. Apparently he did not get many starts in Norway and so needs to get fit.......I expect him to feature in the Reserves in the new year or go out somewhere else on loan....

It's a shame that someone with so much talent doesn't have a Danny Simpson like attitude to go with it! He signed a four-year contract two seasons back.....so United still have him for another two campaigns......

I don't expect him to get any chances with our first team......

More info to follow......

Febian Brandy

FYI....

Brandy was at the Birmingham Youth Cup tie along with James Chester last night.....he was walking around very freely so I expect him to return to action sometime in the New Year........

More info to follow........

the evans two are amazing and that cambel lad is very good

Hm, this probably means that the official home site has missed when they said that J. Evans where born in januart 1987. When is he really born?

They missed by a year. He is born in 1988. And you already see him as a better player than Pique? Sounds great....

Talked to a Liverpool fan who takes great interest in talents, and he claimed that we have diamant in Gerad. He said that he were great against Liverpool reserves and that he must be at similar height as Hyypia (with other words one of the tallest defenders in the PL).

While having a look at our talents in the defence, I can not help getting excited. Yes, we've had talented players before who has not made it, but this is quite different. McShane, who is supposed to have been great in CCC, is probably not even close to beeing our biggest talent. Hopefully he can develope in to a good back.

We also have great players in Pique and Spector who could complete eachother. J. Evans also seems like a great prospect, and we should not forget Bardsley. Richardson can probably also become a okey back.

I think Bardsley and Richardson already are among the first teamers..
Pique and Spector will break through next season I think..
J. Evans and Cathcart sounds like very promising talents.!

Maybe Tony could, when time given, come up with a description of McShane? I understand that he has been doing quite well in Brighton, but why? I seem to remember that he is quite tough, just like Wes was when he was younger. But do he have pace? How is he compared to J. Evans? He seems rather small?!

I understand that he has been taking a lot of the freekicks in defence at Brighton, so he must have a decent right/left foot?

Yet another very promising centre back is 16 year old Craig Cathcart. Saw him in his first reserves game against Liverpool. Though he was at fault for the first goal, he recovered well to put in a good performance. He was class as well against Birmingham in the Youth Cup. He is also the Northern Ireland U17 captain.

Not sure if he is fast as there wasn't much to go on in the 2 games. But definitely quick and assured. Comfortable on the ball and can bring it forward just as well as Johnny Evans. Not as tall as Johnny but not short either. Anyway, at 16 he has some growing still to do.

Johnny Evans is the N.Ireland U19 Captain. So actually, in the centre of the Utd U18 defence now is a pair of young N.Irish captains.

Jonathan Grant Evans was born on the 3rd of January 1988 in Belfast. He played his junior football for Greenisland Boys Club and attended United's School of Excellence in Belfast. He represented Belfast and Northern Ireland Schoolboys an has since gone on to represent Nothern Ireland at Under 17 and under 19 level where he is captain of the side. He attended Belfast High School and also represented County Antrim at the 2003 Northern Ireland Milk Cup.............

Craig attended Glengormley High School in Belfast and was born on the 6th of February 1989. He also played his junior football with Grenisland Boys Club and has followed his father's footstep's into league football. He attended United's School of Excellence in Belfast and United beat off the interest of Chelsea and Arsenal to sign Craig......he is very mature and comfortable on the ball with very good distribution.....strong in the air he also reads the game well....he has decent pace without being lightning quick......he looks quicker than Pique though......

Paul David McShane....born in Dublin on the 6th of January 1986 but grew up in Kilpedder County Wicklow.....he attended St. David's Secondary School and played for a couple of local teams before joining St. Joseph's in Dublin were he was discovered by United and offered terms.....Paul is traditiona centre-half and has a non-nonsense approach to his game.....he is very physical both in the air and in the tackle.....he would run all day and has one hundred percent commitment....his attitude is second to none....on the other side he lacks a little height for a central defender and although not slow.....is not the quickest either.....his distribution needs to improve as well......a whole hearted player.....it is hoped that his time at Brighton will give him much needed experience.....in my opinion he will not make it at United but would be a very good Championship player.....finally....never saw him score from free-kicks at United but often scored with courageous headers....

Biggest problem with Pique is that he lacks pace and gets turned by opponents too often.......then resorting to fouling them....Jon Evans rarely gets caught in this way.....however, Pique has all the other qualities needed in a central defender......

I agree with Tony.

and i think Pique should improve his positioning too. sometimes he just went too far from backline to make a challenge, which always left a huge space behind. that's very dangerous if he failed to win the challenge.

otherwise, he's excellent defender who has tremendous skill and composure, which make sure that he can bring ball outta defence very comfortably.

let's not forget the kid is 18. he'll still improve in every department.a few years down the line we'll see one hell of a player

I have only seen McShane a few times and have been very impressed with attitude and tenacity. Tony just a thought as you have obviously seen a lot more of him, how do you think he would fare in the centre of the park? He gives 110% every game, is incredibly tenacious and not afraid to get stuck in and as you said he will run for the whole match. Whats he like technically? Hows his reading of the game in general?

His distribution is not very good........and so I would never play him in midfield....he is an out and out defender in my eyes....as you say...his attitude is second to none but you need to be creative as well as combative in midfield......and certainly not in United's first team in that position...
